  Set your mind at rest, Corney. You have no need to worry about my ability to distinguish between fact and fiction. Not only did I figure out that the WTS was lying when I left over 40 years ago but I also have a Master's degree in Intermedia Studies. Studying the techniques of propaganda production is a hobby for me.

  there were numerous objections and claims that watchtower lawyers made to try and get out of being held responsible for their negligence and malice.

  here’s the juicy ones:.

  montana is a mandatory reporting state, but watchtower lawyers claimed that the law for reporting abuse only applies to “individuals” and they are “corporations”.

  Because they think that they are above "the laws of the land" and that their law is superior. Historically, the org's focus has been on changing secular laws, not following them. For them to cave now would be a concession that their almighty god jehovah's law is inferior.

  My interest is personal and academic.

  Most of my research has focused on Imperial Russian history concerning the events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917. Recently, though, I have started examining Russian life during the Soviet era. I find it interesting to discourse with Russian friends and family who grew up in a "godless" society.

  stllMS: The only thing that makes me wonder is what's the Orphan Crow's interest in protecting Russian authorities almost in every thread where Russia's mentioned? How in the world can he know of some no-name Russian-language website mentioning the things he (just accidentally) needs to play Russia's advocate?

  I am interested in accuracy, that's all. I find that the knee jerk reactions of most posters carry bias and I try to maintain a non-biased approach - I like to find out what is really happening rather than just what western media and the org reports. That is why I regularly visit jwform.eu to find out what exJWs inside of Russia are saying and what they report. And that is why I know of "some no-name Russian- language website."

  Just because the info I present doesn't fit your narrative doesn't mean I am defending the Russian authorities. If you think that I am...that is fine too. Like I said...I am more interested in accuracy rather than in taking sides purely based on a pre-conceived political notion

  At trial, there was information that two grenades and a mine, found during searches in the house of one of the arrested, belong not to him, but to his relative-search engine. The weapon is not valid. Upon his discovery, a criminal case on the illegal possession of weapons was opened, he was allocated in a separate proceeding.

  Actually, in Russia, it is criminal for people to conduct a meeting of a group that has been declared illegal and "extremist".

  Of course a person can argue that the JWs shouldn't have been banned, but that is a different discussion. This event in the OP happened because they are an illegal organization in Russia. That is the reality.

  Yes, I know. There are many documented accounts of how JWs move money illegally across the world.

  However, concerning the incidence under discussion, there is no need at all for the authorities to have to prove money laundering.

  It is simply a crime in itself to collect funds for the purpose of organizing meetings of an illegal organization inside of Russia. That's all. No charges of money laundering needed.

  Darth, I don't think that the JWs were found to be funneling money back to the US. They were simply found with that money. Collecting funds to organise extremist meetings would be sufficient to be considered unlawful under Russia's extremist laws

  The JWs in Russia no longer have the right to organize or raise funds to do so. They are no longer a recognized religion and therefore no longer have religious rights.
