Simon, I am fully aware of the power of comedy as a resistive force. Without question it can function that way.
However, that does not mean that all comedy performances have to be held to the standard of activism.
And, to expect comedy to function within a proscribed moral space that makes judgements on the use of profane language is ignoring the diversity of the audience.

I don't think that a comedian's rant is about making change. Since when are comedians held up to the standard of activism?
This is comedy, not activism. Comedy is about finding "voice", not about satisfying the audience's need to see change.

Distracted: I'm wondering why this thread got rather contentious??? It doesn't make sense to me. I thought this group was open to people of various stages of awareness and positions.

I am confused, Lee. I tried to use the contact email at the bottom of the page but when I tried to send it, I got an error message.
Other than that, all I can find on the blood map page is a place to leave a comment. I don't want to post a comment as the information I am giving has names, etc, that I don't want to post - am I supposed to use the comment feature to report a no-blood incident?

Sheesh...do you know of any other group/organization that micromanages to this degree? I get dizzy reading all their rules and restrictions and directives on behaviour. Not only that, but it is hard to breathe after a session of wading through WTS letters and documents.
Gad, if you stacked up hard copies of all the rules, regulations, letters of instruction, manuals, etc,, that this organization has produced in its history, how high do you think the pile would be?
i was something like 20-21 and there was this young sister, maybe 16 who i happened to like back in the day ... uh oh ...we met in the summer convention because i made the first move while she was playing board games with her friend.
we kept in touch via skype and text messages because lived kinda far from each other.
eventually her mother heard of the stuff and said to her daughter that the chatting must stop.... well, when two people have a little crush on one another, it sure doesn't.

I agree. That behaviour is called "grooming". What makes it even creepier is that it was an item of clothing as opposed to something less personal. A 20 something adult man buying clothing for a "maybe 16" (likely less...) year old girl? Yuck. She is a minor child regardless of how she looks.
The bottom line...
Underage is illegal. Against the law regardless of the "cultural norms" of the JW cult.

That is only if they are interested in pursuing their interests in these countries. They may have the attitude of why bother, these countries bring no economic value to the organization.
It isn't just the money...many of those "undeveloped countries" have laws that prohibit religious conversion. India, for one.

I have made several attempts to contact Anne-Marie Welsh to find out where she had accessed those numbers, but I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to contact her. Because this paper was published in Australia, and Australia's health care system is influenced by WT bloodless men, I assumed that the numbers came from the JWs who have been interested in promoting blood management in Australia. But, I could be wrong about that.
