  You are absolutely right about that. I have been so disappointed in the idiots who refuse to acknowledge that there are laws that exist and with their refusal to acknowledge those laws.

  I have dealt with my frustration and disappointment by (rightly or wrongly) attributing it to their upbringing inside a cult that does the exact same thing. Ignores the law just for their own selfish gain. And, the lack of comprehension of some people who claim that they read Deborah's message is astounding.

  It truly is embarassing to be an observer of these levels of ignorance. But...I keep hoping that the cult cloak will drop at sometime for those people.

  This IS the world - it is the way it operates. We are no longer captive to those cultic self-centered thoughts if we so chose to educate ourselves.

  So...right here is the basic problem. People just don't comprehend what it is that they read.

  The book was NOT "taken out of print". It wasn't in print. The copyright violations stood in the way of it being put back into print.

  boc: I did read the post. I don't understand why this person doesn't have the ability to publish the book and fight the copyright/bootlegging battle at the same time.

  That is why Deborah hired a lawyer and followed the advice that the lawyer gave her.

  You said you read the post - but she explains in there why she couldn't publish the book while she was fighting against piracy. No publisher wants to pick up a book to publish while there are copyright infringement battles going on.

  The reason this book has not been available is because of the copyright infringements to begin with.

  Don't blame the copyright holder - blame those who disrespected the copyright.

  welcome to canada from one immigrant to another !.

  calgary is welcoming it's first refugees from syria and iraq so tomorrow i'm going to take all the winter clothing that we have and donate it to a women / children's charity.

  it's not much (well, actually, it's a huge pile ... everything from when we first moved over!

  bobold: I may add from 1800 t0 1960 Canada brought in millions of refuges from all over the world and all accepted our values and laws. So what has changed.
  Remember the RCMP turban,air India,honour killings do these people accept our values.

  sir82: Who exactly is the WTS retaining to give them legal guidance on real estate matters - Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe?

  Eh...I think that the WTS gets their advice from real estate gurus.

  It appears that the college that was supposed to built there (Touro College of Oesteopathic Medicine) was built in Harlem instead. Oh...and by the way...not sure if this has any bearing...Lorenz Reibling, et al., has investments in Harlem - which go up in value with a nice college like that situated there.

  There is much that goes on behind closed doors in the real estate world. Much.

  I found out who the WTS bought the Warwick property from:

  ...Devine described it as originally built 50 years ago for the International Nickel Co. (now known as INCO) for its research and development division. The company closed that division in 1983.
  Since then it has been owned by King’s College, which had received approvals for its plan to develop a 1,600-student campus there; and then by Touro College.
  “We actually bought it from Touro College,” Devine said last year.

  Prior to beginning construction, the WTS was well aware that the Warwick site had soil contamination.

  From the 2009 Final Scoping Document:
  

  E.2.e. Potential soil contamination; the applicant desires to reference potential soil contamination information from the previously approved DEIS for The King’s College. An Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) was performed by The Kings College and some of the noted areas of concern were mitigated. Further work was done on the site by Touro College under their ownership. Another ESA was performed for Watchtower when the property was purchased. To some extent, the current information disclosed in the ESA should be referenced in this section. The ESAs should be included in an Appendix to the DEIS and the location of any remaining areas of concern should be shown on a plan included in the document. Any additional mitigation should be noted in section E.2.i.

  From the 2012 Findings Statement:
  

  An Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) conducted on the site indicated a number of areas of concern including former underground storage tanks, potential subsurface contamination due to waste sewerage piping, potential subsurface contamination due to filter sand beds from the sewage treatment plant in a nearby wooded area, the sewage treatment plant, a former drum storage area and potential subsurface contamination due to historic operations at the former INCO facility. There are four areas of potential soil contamination contamination that are identified on the site. Each of these four areas will be remediated prior to the start of site construction.

  BW: I tend to think that the GB are easy pray for some sales guy who appeals to personal vanities ...

  Or...they are easy prey to the "green handshake"...and to the generous donations that come back to them when they do business with wealthy JWs. Ya know...I think it is called "patronage" or something like that...

  JeffT: I do not know who they bought the land from, I'll try to find out. The news articles say they're suing International Nickel, I had assumed that's who they bought the land from, but it seems from one article they sold it in the eighties.

  There were a couple of colleges that were supposed to be built on the land in between WTS owning it and ownership by International Nickel but neither plan came to fruition (maybe they figured out that the soil was contaminated first).

  I wonder who it was that owned the land and who profited from the WTS buying it. And who was the real estate agent who pocketed the sales commission.
