Gor: Why do they own it, and don't lease it or hire a contractor?!?
Who did they buy the equipment from? Who profited from the purchase?

i get highly irritated when this subject comes up.
this idiot gave a talk in my hall recently and said that transfusion of blood and eating blood was the same thing.
my wife accepts this reasoning.
Vidiot: @ OrphanCrow...
Didn't you post something recently about the WT's stance against transfusions having significant origins in the personal beliefs of a JW higher-up in the 50s who'd had fascist sympathies*?
x
* Nazis, for example, were very wary about the idea of transfusions, for "racial purity" reasons.
Eh...yes. That information might might on this forum. I have investigated the links between Germany and the blood ban quite extensively.
I sort of avoid bringing it up much just because of "Goddard's Law" and I don't like the tin foil hat label that is the knee jerk response to any mention of Nazis or Hitler. However, I don't talk about Hitler...it was Heinrich Himmler whom the WT had an intimate relationship with.
So...my research into those connections are NOT Goddards' Law. There is a very strong connection between the blood ban and what was happening in WW2 in Germany.
As well, the WT's alliances with the anti-AMA crowd had a significant impact on the implementation of the blood ban. Today's "bloodless" surgery has its roots in the chiropathic and osteopathic professions.

Faye: For me it is an issue of life. The whole concept of the blood issue is because blood is symbolic of life, and life is sacred, right? If life is so sacred, use blood to sustain life. It is the life itself that is the most sacred thing, not the symbol of life, which is the blood.
Exactly. Even the doctrine is backwards and upside down.
I addressed this once with some JW women who invited me to the memorial. I asked them if they believed in Jesus and they replied "yes". And then I asked them if they believed he had given his blood so that all could live. And, of course they said "yes".
My reply was "If Jesus gave his blood so everybody could have life, then why don't you give blood?"

I had a medical doctor explain to me the difference between taking blood into the body as a transfusion as opposed to eating blood.
A friend of mine received blood transfusions for hemorrhaging esophageal varices. While he was recovering, several days later, he was behaving strangely (in the doctor's words - "loopy").
The doctor explained his behavior to me:
"When a person gets a blood transfusion, their body does not usually have a problem accepting the blood. However, when a person digests their own blood, and that is what happened to your friend - it does something funny to their brain and they behave as though they are drunk - "loopy". It takes a few days for the blood to be completely digested and after that, they will return to their normal behavior. We don't know why this happens but it does."
After being told this, I got to thinking about the bible verses that dealt with god's prohibition on "drinking the blood of your enemies" and getting "drunk" on that blood.
Eating blood does very different things to your body than what accepting a blood transfusion will.

sir82: Why would they have bought the excavator they are trying to sell ($299,000) in the first place?
Wouldn't it have been much more cost-effective to rent or lease one?
These schemes are not about "cost effectiveness". They concern the opposite - how to get money out of the WT and into the hands of money seeking JWs themselves.
the center for investigative journalism whose website is now called revealnews.org, has an entire section on stories being investigated by their staff and others on how the watchtower is handling child abuse cases.. "the jehovah’s witnesses have systematically instructed leaders to keep child sexual abuse secret from law enforcement and members of their own congregations.

please share you thoughts on this issue because i really would like to know when the governing body and their lawyers are going to properly address this issue because i can't worship in a place that allows dangerous men in, that's what they accused the catholic church of doing and now here it is that they are caught doing the same thing but have not expressed any concern for the victims.
Heaven: They will never fix this problem because the fundamentalism of patriarchy from the Bible is at the core of the issue.
I agree wholeheartedly. At the heart of the issue is the dis-empowerment of the individual.
The focus is always on the WT changing their policies when the problem is far deeper that that - it is the doctrine that has to change. And that never will.
blood saves lives.
a safe blood supply is vital for the health of everybody.. in canada, the province with the highest rates of hiv and hep c is saskatchewan.
and it is in this province, run by a right wing government, where for-profit blood donation will be rolled out.. http://regina.ctvnews.ca/company-that-pays-for-blood-donations-opening-first-sask-clinic-1.2741056.
An update on the Canadian plasma clinic.
It has already opened and has been buying blood. However, they do not have buyers for that blood yet and the controversy is still ongoing.
This is a recent article that reveals not only the health risks involved, but also the politics that is driving the controversy.
It is an emotionally charged issue with critics and supporters facing off. The opponents to the paid clinics include the Ontario Hemophilia Society, the World Health Organization and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
What complicates the issue is the ownership of the company Canadian Plasma Resources:
Beyond the debate on compensation for plasma donations, Canadian Plasma Resources has faced challenges over its ties to Iran.
In September, the Federal Court upheld a Canada Border Services Agency decision to deny a work permit for Ramin Fallah, a shareholder in Canadian Plasma Resources’ parent company, Exa Pharma Inc., who had been hired as an executive. The CBSA claimed his former employer, Fanavari Azmayeshgahi, “has been identified in open sources and by allied governments as being an entity of (weapons of mass destruction) concern.”
The court found that Fallah did not raise any evidence to counter that allegation.
Another alleged link to Iran’s nuclear program is through Canadian Plasma’s business partnership with the German pharmaceutical company, Biotest AG, which has processing plants in the U.S. and Germany.
Biotest has a joint venture called Bio Daru with pharmaceutical company Darou Pakhsh, which is on a list of Iranian companies Britain considers at risk of using exports for weapons of mass destruction proliferation. Nasser Riahi, founder of Exa Pharma and father of its president, Yalda Riahi, is also a founder of Bio Daru.
Bahardoust said Nasser “severed his ties with Exa Pharma years ago,” and Yalda is now the only member of the Riahi family with an interest in Canadian Plasma Resources.

omg i cannot believe that someone is making a hollywood-like movie based on the topic of blood transfusions and jehovah's witnesses!

Zeb: I feel their energy might have been better directed to the recent ulcer opened on paedophiles'
Zeb, this film has been in the works for years. Personally, I am over the moon that this long neglected issue - the blood ban - is finally getting some attention.
The child abuse issues will get their spotlight some day but it won't be getting it with this much needed film. The pedophile problem is not the only problem that deserves to be scrutinized.
The energy and commitment that has already gone into this film deserves respect, not criticism.

steve2: I'd also assume funding is provided by Christian outreach groups...
The film is not being funded by Christian outreach groups.
I checked with the producer, Alex, as to where the funding is coming from and his response was that it has been, so far, self funded. Lol! He said that he sold all his "worldly" possessions in order to get the film off the ground.
The good news is that there are some potential investors on the horizon. And they are not Christian outreach groups.
Dio: .....if its a good film with good direction, storyline AND packs an emotional punch, it could do really well.
From what I have heard so far, this film has the potential to deliver exactly that.

An interview with the producers of the film "Blood" - Alex Riker and Jason King - where the background of the film is discussed.
It is long - I am listening to it right now...Alex and Jason give lots of details about their JW experiences and, in addition to the film, they discuss many aspects of the religion, including child abuse.
