  i have a favor to ask.

  i need some information found in a watchtower that i can't seem to find in my library.

  today, the watchtower teaches that the governing body is the faithful slave.

  I remember that exchange as Jackson saying "that it would be presumptuous of them to claim they're God's only channel of communication"

  He didn't deny it..he denied being the sole channel - which is what they really claim

  introvert: Also makes me ill in a fashion that's hard to describe, like when you meet with and have to interact with patients from the psych. ward.

  Me too. I have the same reaction. It is because the words and method of writing that the WTS uses are a "word salad" - they don't really make logical sense and reading the WT words is like listening to a schizophrenic ramble on and try to make an argument. You get lost in the process. Your brain becomes numb

  I avoided reading their literature for years. It screws with a person's head trying to follow the maze they weave

  steve2: I'm behind the ball on this thread, so forgive me for asking: Why is mention made of someone in the writing dept composing this song when it appears inspired by what a householder observed? Or have I misunderstood something?

  Yeah, I was confused at first too. But I think what was meant was that someone in the writing department had heard the song first...an awake person. And chose 'Kevin" based on this song

  why isn't the boston globe doing a better job covering this group?.

  after all, the movie spotlight won an oscar about this paper and their groundbreaking journalism into the catholic church covering child abuse.

  Mad Irishman: The Catholic Church has had over 15,000 priests molest over 1 million kids, some in my family, and they hid and reassigned all of them over and over and over for 50 years and did nothing in almost every case.
  That isn't exactly the same story as JW's.

  No, it isn't exactly the same.

  The Catholic Church has over 1.2 billion members worldwide. The JWs have (apparently) around 8 million. Big difference. The JWs make up less that one percent of that size.

  And here is another thing that is different - not all of the JW pedophiles were/are "priests" or persons in a clerical position. Many of the cases in the JWs involve incest. In the case of the Catholic Church cover-up, I have yet to hear of incest being part of the scenario. Incest is what separates the Catholic Church scandal from the JW child sex abuse scandal

  *to add - the line is said as tho it is the singer saying it. It is a normal reaction of an ordinary person to seeing a little boy selling religion at their door - they don't know that Kevin doesn't have "heavenly hope"

  Expanding number of DC/RC's

  according to my elder in law, by next year the number of dc/rc's will increase by 143. the size of conventions will get smaller.

  the elder in law says the goal is to make them all have around 2,000 or so at each.

  they are going to make more manuals detailing each job and it's responsibilities.

  Busting up large groups of JWs makes it easier to handle them - easier to spot apostates etc.

  This is not a new technique - it is what Rutherford did back in the 30s when he was restructuring the JWs. He busted down the large congregations and made them into little ones. He dissipated the power outside of himself - smaller groups had less power within each one.

  So much of what is going on with the JWs today is simply a re-make of the early Rutherford years. He, too, was dealing with a failing membership and the re-structuring and re-branding that he did leading up to the founding of the JW religion was largely successful. Maybe the WTS is trying to take a leaf out of Rutherford's playbook

  I sent an email to Spirit of the West thanking John for writing this song and about Kevin being the exJW hero and why we relate to this song.

  I received a message back from Hugh McMillan from Spirit of the West and I will share it with all of you:

  i have a question for all the creative writers out there.

  if i'm writing a book, can i quote anyone that i want, as long as i give them credit?

  for instance, i want to quote mark twain, imitating rocky, quoting donald trump.

  Yes, you can quote anybody you want. But you have to credit them.

  Provide a reference and source and you are good to go :)

  Study article: "Go, and Make Disciples.." is a hot mess

  so i hooked into meeting via phone this week to listen in and was shocked at the absurdities mentioned in the study article (2016 may watchtower: "go,..and make disciples of people of all the nations").

  the answer is obvious—only jehovah’s witnesses.

  the answer the missionary priest gave in no way proves that jws are the only ones "preaching the good news".
