AnonyMous: The interesting thing is that JWs are not banned in Russia, the only thing that got banned was certain articles that disparage "apostates" and the shunning doctrine.
Mmmmm...I believe that the Jehovah's Witnesses have been declared an "extremist" organization and as such, the activities of the JWs are banned.
Because the JWs are now considered extremist, some JWs in Russia have lost their jobs with public service. Many KH's have already been closed by the Ministry of Justice.
As far as only "certain articles" being banned, that is an understatement. Any piece of literature that promotes the concept of elitism, or disparages others' beliefs, has been banned.There are several pieces (over 80) of WT literature that are on the list of banned extremist literature in Russia, including My Book of Bible Stories.

tiki: What about the well being of the people????? Is it all about how to keep the rubles flowing?!?! The $$$ should be the last thing on their minds...
The Russian JWs are being used by the GB to fan the flames of "we are being persecuted!" when, as evidenced by these letters, the biggest persecution the GB is facing is how to get $$$ out of the Russian JWs.
Persecution? Who is persecuting who? It is really ballsy of the GB to make public, international statements to try to gain support and sympathy for their "religious persecution" at the very same time that they are placing undue hardship on those JWs themselves. Not only are they demanding that the Russian JW elders be part of illegally moving money around (the Admin Center in Russia has been banned from making financial transactions), they are also requesting meticulous records be kept. And photographed receipts of cash transfers. Record keeping like that can only add to the trouble the Russian JWs will be in if they are caught being part of a scheme to bypass Russian authorities.
Is the GB really concerned about the persecution of Russian JWs? When the GB themselves make demands that add to the risk of them being persecuted? All for the sake of $$$? Are they really fighting for the "freedom to worship" or is it really the "freedom to donate" that is the priority?

The Russian Interior Authorities are no friends of mine and I would not wish to provide info that might result in some poor J W sap being sent to the twenty-first century equivalent of the salt mines ..........
These documents have already been leaked and posted online by someone inside of Russia. If an exJW in Russia can get their hands on these letters, I suspect the Russian authorities already have them.
Yes, the JWs in Russia are poor saps. The publishers that meet and stick their rubles in jars at their secret meetings have no idea that the elders have received these instructions. The elders are told to stop using the KHs but they are instructed to keep meeting. And collecting money. And sending that money up line.
Poor saps indeed. Maybe leaking these letters will help some of those poor saps to wake up and use their rubles to feed themselves and their families instead of giving their money to an American corporate religion that is standing "shoulder to shoulder" with them so that the money chain can be kept alive.

Huh? What's that you say? No missionaries allowed in Russia? Okey dokey...no problem. The special full time ministers aren't missionaries anyways...their duty is to collect the money (preferably in cash) for the org. Money collectors, money mules. Who carry anonymous credit cards that can be re-loaded anonymously with the cash that all those persecuted Russians are faithfully sticking in jars so that Kingdom Halls can be built around the world at the same time that they are facing the loss of their own KH's and can no longer meet in them.
The persecuted Russian JWs are risking fines and loss of livelihood in order to continue to conduct those so very important meeting$. And the money is carefully counted after each meeting, meticulously recorded and obediently sent up the line. As cash or anonymous deposit.

Subject: Guidance on voluntary donations and meeting expenses
Dear brothers!
In this manual, we want to provide guidance for the accounting meeting under new circumstances for us. Attached to the letter you will also find some additional technical details and sample forms filled s-26 "Blank Meeting accounts" and s-30 "Monthly Report on the Meeting of the accounts." After reading this guide to familiarize yourself with your congregation elders of this letter and its annex, without transferring them to the documents themselves. Dear brothers!
In difficult circumstances, God's servants is especially important to meet
together to encourage one another (Heb. 10:24, 25). Nice to see how much effort you
make to continue to hold congregation meetings in the new conditions.
Since the new circumstances by themselves can cause additional
experience, we want to have publishers had less risk to face
more severe persecution. Therefore, from now on you must stop
holding meetings in the Kingdom Hall , regardless of to whom decorated hall, or in
the premises, which were used as Kingdom Halls.
Elders need to prayerfully approach the issue meetings of

copy circuit overseerIt is noteworthy that the WTS' instructions concerning money, doesn't say anything about the congregations setting up a reserve fund or anything like that to assist the Russian brothers and sisters with their legal costs and fines that are beginning to accumulate across Russia. Or to set anything aside to help all the Russian JWs who worked in public service and have recently lost their jobs because of their association with the WT organization.
Just send the org anything left over from meeting expenses and everything from the "opaque jar or box" marked with the removable label that says "worldwide work". And keep meeting. Really, really important to meet. With two donation boxe$. Or jar$.

I agree with you, Freddo.
When I first read the story, the scenario made me chuckle - sort of like a slap stick comedy where a fat drunk guy runs a sweeper into a poor unsuspecting JW cart - literature flying all over the place. And the drunk fat guy just going about his business finding more booze...leaving the dead literature cart in ruins...It made me chuckle in the same way that low comedy occasionally does.
Then, I double checked the article, sort of kicking myself for laughing at a tragedy that may have hurt someone. I read it carefully again before I posted. I didn't want someone to think I was an insensitive person that would joke about somebody getting hurt. (*edit to add - that is actually the really funny part - of course the sweeper didn't hit anybody - there is never anyone around those carts)
And then I read Simon's comment and I admit that his reaction startled and rattled me a bit. But...it is the internet and it is really easy to react before thinking and just do a knee jerk reaction based on preconceived notions, so I am okay with it...no problem, as least on my part. All is good
