Fun family study? Tolerable?
by Gopher inwas there ever such at thing in jw families, or is this phrase oxymoronic?.
sometimes the meetings encouraged "variety" in family studies, assigning certain research projects to different family members, or setting up a bible reading as though it were a play.. none of that happened in my family.
it was just dry question-and-answer.

family studies are not good memories.. growing up my mother had them although not real often. Mostly because I think she found it a struggle to do. Dad wasn't a witness. She tried though. She'd take us to a deserted beach and let us look for agates.. walk the beach, play in the sand for a while.. then we'd go in the car and she'd try to study with us. My brother would end up yawning, denoting his boredom and in the end my mom would end up crying because no one was really paying attention..
then after I married my first husband, he had a short fuse and as soon as the kids got fidgety.. which kids are apt to do.. especially the youngest who was ADD... bad.. well before long my ex would be swearing and screaming at the kids.. and next thing, throwing his bible across the room at them...

The 2 Witness Rule & Adultery
by minimus inisn't it interesting that the watchtower organization does not require 2 witnesses to prove an allegation of adultery.
if the elders, for example, believe a christian wife who says she's been cheated on, but her husband refuses to acknowledge this to anyone else but her, she can state in writing that her spouse committed adultery and she will be free to remarry if the elders simply believe her!.
yet, this same rule does not apply to pedophilia!.

well i guess I just don't get it..
you can confess all you want but if no one says they believe you, what have you really done? it sure isn't going to make a child feel better if they can write a letter to god saying someone molested them, but still nothing will be done..
its empty if you ask me..

thank you..
I guess my point is, you really do not establish guilt.. no one says, you are right, they did this wrong.. they just let you write this letter that gets filed and they basically wash their hands of it... I couldn't even tell others about the letter.. it was to be between me and Jehovah..

I do get it.. you don't need two witneses to get them to let JEHOVAH free you if you are the victim.. but that is all...
it proves nothing else in regard to the one who did the 'wrong'.. they still go undisciplined..
you need the two witnesses for anyything to be done to them

if you know for sure.. you can write the letter..
but that only gets the 'victim free'.. the letter is filed.. not one thing is done to the one accused..
so how does this help against a pedifile any way?
it doesn't cause them discipline.. and it doesn't publicly give relief to the victim.. they aren't even supposed to talk about it..

79 or 78.. I forget.. I used to have a copy of the article but I think I threw it out with my other JW literature.
they dont like to talk about the article.. they prefer the proof with two witnesses..

well even the adultry rule is not that easy..
I know.. my first husband had an affair.. admitted it to me but they would not for two yrs give me my scriptural freedom to date..
I kept asking and asking because I knew he was cheating and had girlfriend.. we divorced but the elders would not let me move on to date..
eventually a CO told the brothers to show me that article about writing a letter..
but then they impressed on me that GRAVITY of using it without knowing for sure.. they said the bloodguilt would be on my hands if it wasn't true.. and I would die at Armegedon..
plus.. it did not get him in trouble.. it only freed me..
so how does that help in the case of pedifiles... there still is no discipline even if you could write the letter..
