JW's and Pubs/Bars

i have noticed on past threads from posters from other countries than the usa that they would be hanging out in pubs and such while still jw's.

in the us i believe that going to bars would pretty much be a df/da offense.

in other countries is the policy different?

I'm right there with you Heatmiser. I always thought that going to a bar would be a DFing offense. I remember the org having a picture (I think in a WT) of a witness contemplating going into a bar and then telling us why we wouldn't want to do it. I just took that to mean, and I'm pretty sure it was implied by the brothers, that, at the very least, it would be a backroomworthy offense.

I honestly think it has a lot to do with where your cong was. From my observations, in the Southern US, the elders were very strict when it came to alcohol. However, in other parts of the country (New England, California), they weren't as strict. I wonder why?

since my 9ers never even made the playoffs this year the only reason i have to look forward to super bowl sunday is.......survivor all stars.

a rumor i heard is that this show will have 3 teams of 6 including our favorite rupert, and 4 from the original survivor cast.

does anyone know who else the show will have on it?

since my 9ers never even made the playoffs this year the only reason i have to look forward to super bowl sunday is.......survivor all stars.

a rumor i heard is that this show will have 3 teams of 6 including our favorite rupert, and 4 from the original survivor cast.

does anyone know who else the show will have on it?

During the last reunion show when Jeff was talking about to him about lying about his grandmonther's death, Jon (aka Johnny Fairplay) said, "Who knows? Maybe my Grandpa will die during the All Star show?" So, I totally got the impression that he was going to be on it, too. However, I really hope he isn't! I hate him.

WHY did you get baptised?

i was just thinking back to when i got baptised.

and i dont really remember the real reason why.. thinking about it seems to bring up the idea that i only got baptised because of the way everyone treats you when they find out you are getting dunked - and not specifically to serve jehovah.. baptism day comes and you sit there and listen to the talk.

then you go out and get your swimming duds on and line up at the "whatever it is they decide to dunk you in".

Oh, and the baptism gifts... did anyone else get those? That was pretty cool, too. I guess... wait, now that I remember, it was stuff like a new bookbag, a nice pen to take notes with, a fancy notebook to record my fs in.... I guess it wasn't so great after all!

What's the most ridiculous thing you were ever counselled on?

one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.

they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.

i was once counselled for joking around too much.

While at work (at a fast food restaurant), one of our cooks went into labor. Her husband could not be reached, so the manager told me to take her to the hospital myself. One of the other female employees went with us as well. I worked with an elder's daughter, so news of this reached the 'brothers' very quickly. After the next meeting, I was counselled for bad association and being alone with two worldly girls.

I was later counselled because I had been writing to a sister in another congregation. (Man, writing with actual paper and stamp stuff... how 1991 is that?) I had met her family and she mine at the last DC. We seemed to hit it off rather well and they came for a visit and stayed with another family. I got counseled because I had not contacted the elders at her hall to see if she would be a proper wife. And, the visit implicitly implied we were now courting. "There are rules that Jehovah gives us to protect us from putting ourselves in situations where whe might sin," one old elder, who was at the first session about the preg coworker, told me. "And you MUST follow those rules!" He also reminded me that this was not the first time that I had been brought into the backroom because of in appropriate interactions with females. I was blown away! We had never been alone together and were only writing each other. Apparently, the old elder didn't think much of me other than I was trying to get into all these women's pants.

It wasn't too long after this that I stopped going to the meetings. You know, the only thing I regret about not going back to the Kingdom Hell is that I didn't get to see the look on that one old elder's face when he found out that not only was I gay, but I met a man, fell in love and had a gay wedding!

My Grandmother Passed Away :(

on monday at 2 pm, my grandmother peacefully passed away at the age of 100. .

her last words was when she was straining to see something that we couldn't see and she said, "roy???

" (my grandfather) and then she said, "mom???

as per my prediction on morrislamb topic thread around christmas.. and i quote:.

and yes.. he did win as the "world idol"...norways, kirt nielson... a plumber, married and father of two.

He was great, and because of his looks, he was definatley the underdog. (Of course, I was rooting for my Kelly, but if someone were to beat her, I'm glad it was someone who could sing!) Actually, as long as he didn't open his mouth, he wasn't really bad looking. He just needs a good orthodontist!

And what was up with Ryan Seacrest plugging his new show right before he read the American public's voting results? That was a bit too self serving!
