Funny Story, I started reading Reddit today....

ok so maybe i am a bit old school, late to the party, or whatever but i just discovered some subreddits (other than ex-jw) that have me completely addicted to the site.

for the whole afternoon, i have been going through the tifu section (pm me if you can't find the meaning of the acronym but just google it and the meaning should come up).

anyways, i thought i would share some funny ones here because, hey, we all need a good laugh and there's plenty of laugh provoking material on the net.

Disfelowshipping / Expelling

the insight book volume 1 page 788 uses matthew 5:22 and acts 10:28 as biblical support for dfing and shunning.. thoughts?

i don't have the means.. i should have said that basically the top paragraph in the insight book is supporting shunning because the israelites shunned the man of the nations and tax collectors?

They always twist scripture to fit their agenda. For Bible thumpers, they sure do follow man (the GB) and try to prophesy in Jehober's name an awful lot. Also they say to abstain from blood except for certain portions and cow blood (can't seem to find that scripture which oks said practice in my bible but ok) and also manage to ignore other commands (including caring for the poor, widows and fatherless children) but whatevs. They will ALWAYS find some obscure scripture and devote tons of absurd meaning to it while ignoring the scriptures with clear, blatant advice/commands. Go figure. Who would've thought a cult would do such a thing? SMDH

Ps-I am suprised (not really) they have a grand 2 scriptures to support that practice but ignore whole accounts of Jesus and others interacting with sinners.

Also, they left these parts out in their sorted interpretation:

Acts 10:28-But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean. (NIV)

Matt 5:22-whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; (NSV)

Just my observations.

How many of you still believe in God or are still Christians?

hello, i asked a new but old friend how many people are still christians after leaving the watchtower's mind control agency, for statistical purposes do you mind if i do a survey and see how many of you are believers?.

please don't post if your not a believer out of respect for this poll, we need to sharpen each other's sword and help build each other up and meet new friends over the internet with faith in god or some other force of the universe.

i asked another person how we can still manage our faith after getting burned by the high group mind control, he had a few ideas but he's not really involved with god because of how life burned him.

i'm hearing all these comments about how wt dosnt care, is arrogant, unapologetic and is covering it up.

hey and i agree with these comments to a point but as i'm no lawyer and don't know american law what would be the implications if wt did came out and admitted it's errors.

i'm talking front cover wt here.

I was JUST thinking about the idea of them apologizing LITERALLY AS I WAS SMOKING MY DAILY CIG not FIVE MINUTES ago. How convenient you were thinking the same thing. I was pondering this as I was thinking about the reasons I will be providing to my parents should the need arise for why I don't want to attend meetings with them. Main reason: I have young children and any organization the refuses to apologize for the blatant reckless sexually deviant behavior of SEVERAL of its members is a huge no no for my personal moral code. But anyways, I pondered if they would ever apologize and what would happen. Needless to say a hawk swooping down on a bird caught my attention and my line of thinking drifted off. Perhaps I should go outside more often and observe nature instead of thinking about such impossibly foolish hypothetical events right? And btw, I think they won't apologize because it would mean:

A) They were in the wrong. If they were EVER going to apologize, they should've done so during the Conti trial and they did the exact opposite which was deny and refuse to answer

B) Financially, it would hurt them not only because it would hold them culpable for the acts committed but also how many people want to donate money to an organization that admits wrongdoing such a disgusting act.

C) It would mean their policies need to be examined and changed and they would be under a public microscope to do so once they did apologize which would mean they did at some point become aware of such behavior and refuse to alter their policies until forced to publicly. And I DOUBT their "Light" gets that much "Brighter"

D) It would mean they were at some point WRONG about something which as we know, Jehovah's spirit anointed arrangement never could be wrong about anything. (yes that was sarcasm italicized)

Wow. I am disgusted. I can't even comment on the foolish rubbish this promotes. And maybe had someone gone to school and at least gotten a music degree, the song wouldn't sound like a thousand cats scratching a chalkboard in an empty gymnasium. Just disgusting.

I have been out for years and my parents USED to mention armageddon and such to me but they don't anymore. Although I don't have much advice I do know you have a great start there above. i found this comment on a yahoo article re same sex marriage and i happen to agree with it and thought i would share it.

of course there are others that can be added if you specify what's wrong with jehovah's witnesses but i think this list is a good overview.

would anyone else care to add anything to this list or comment?

Thanks everyone, these are all great points. I just realized something about Sodd & Gom (not even going to attempt to spell them right now) is that they were destroyed for such blatant evilness but then what Lot's daughter's did was sick as well so why not destroy them too? So many questions when you base your faith solely on the Bible. It does indeed feel like a jigsaw puzzle with pieces from completely different puzzles added in.

@ Cofty- Thanks, I can think of a few more but they still fall into subsets of the originals (like inequality for women who are seen as property or lesser than men)

@ Talesin- Yes! I didn't even think of that! The bible sort of presents a "bipolar" God view which seems insane to say the least.
