JW Expressions We Hate
by Socrateswannabe ini was browsing through stuff on jw.org recently and ran across some expressions that really grate on my nerves: loyal love, loving-care, and loving-kindness, as in: "please exercise loving-kindness toward your servant.
" who talks like that?
they must be relics of the fred franz era.

JW's Funerals, Forget About The Person! Let's Preach.
by new boy ingod forbid you would talk about the dead person at his funeral.
so what do most people get after living 70-80 years?.
a 5-10 minutes eulogy.

You were one of the good guys. It seems the good guys figure out this cult is BS. Seems to be a pattern.

I agree BUT, it all depends on who you are. We have been to JW funerals where all they talk about is how much the deceased has contributed to kingdom interests. Brother so and so had a large part in getting our new assembly hall. If you're a regular guy you get the standard funeral talk. If you're a big wig you get a true ulogy. We've seen it 1st hand. It's all about who you know and how much money/time you contribute. -

"If I wasn't born a JW, I would never have become one."
by OneEyedJoe ini've seen it mentioned by a few on the forum that at some point there was a realization that had they not been born a jw, they never would've converted no matter how many times the jws tried to study with them.
this was my experience too, and i'm wondering how universal it is for those that were born-in but eventually left.
i think i started having this thought (more specifically that if i were not born a jw, i would surely have become an atheist by now) in my late teens.

It's funny you ask the question. My spouse and I talk about that all the time. My spouse always says..."I wonder what makes a non JW want to become a JW. What's the attraction?' We are both born in.
I wonder sometimes if the instant friends that you receive, once you join the cult, is what attracts them. The ones we know that came into the cult as adults are all very social. They have little accepted groups they belong to.
We would have NEVER joined if we were born in . We just don't see the attraction. Let's see...no education, no material possessions, no non JW friends, no facial hair, no short skirts or tight blouses, no tight pants, no birthdays, no holidays, no social gatherings (even with JW's), no vacations (unless it's Brooklyn Bethel), no children. The list goes on and on. Gee....I wonder why we would never have joined.

You don't paint the rooms on the Titanic
by TTWSYF inthis was the line my nephew gave me regarding why jws don't give alms.
i had several rebuttals to give him, but didn't.
i was hoping for some comments from this board.

I actually believe that these arrogant/self righteous "people" would love to see others destroyed. I believe they would sit there and watch with a smirk on their face. There is a certain type of person that is attracted to an organization that looks forward to others dying. Maybe that is why I never dug my hooks completely into their beliefs. I was always on of the JW's that had the WTF look on their face.
These are the comments that infuriate me and confirm that I made the decision to leave this very disturbing and destructive cult.

My Fellow Elders and other Animals
by Lostandfound inpart 1 of some memories.
i was an elder in the cong and had a young family and a demanding job about an hours drive away.
i suppose most elder bodies had vocal passengers and some workers, literally pne elder could explain in detail how to claim benefits rather than work so you would think with no job ties he could have all the time in the world to help...wrong!.

" I had a family to support and was criticised for having "a good job"
They (JW's) don't like you having a good job BUT they sure like your money!!! Just like they don't want you receiving a good education BUT they sure like to USE your skills.
HYPOCRITES!!!

What a stupid idea...putting a JW org sign up at your place of business. You NEVER advertise your religion at your place of business. There's nothing like running customers off like advertising JW. There are a lot of people that hate the witlesses.
Any whoo...STADD, so sorry to hear your family is still shunning you. It sickens me! We hope you enjoy your new home.

Ex elders vs. Current elders
by dothemath inin our congregation there are now more ex-elders than current ones.
(probably very common).
what i notice most of all, is that the ones who were the best speakers (we actually had some good ones) are the ones who have all stepped down.. i'm of the opinion the better teachers recognize its all a joke, and can't be bothered to reach out again.. so the ones left who are taking the lead are the most boring ones available.

The smart ones stepped down. These are the things that should happify all of us on the forum. More ARE waking up. JW's will never go away but I believe before long there will be a huge exit.
JW Broadcasting, the internet and the GB being more "out there" will and have had an impact. Sit back and watch, this cult is doing all the dirty work for us.
