Why not drink the wine and yell, "happy hour." Really though, no interest and even all these years later. I could still recite that talk "word for word", no thanks.

Are you going to the memorial
by lillost ini was asked by my mother today "are you going to the memorial this year".
i declined most graciously and said thank you for thinking of me, and although i haven't been for the last eight years i thought no more of the ritual invitation.. then suddenly it dawned on me that my mothers response was quite abrupt and something along the lines of "well i have done my christian duty by asking you".
it was if she was literally washing the blood from her hands and she had tried to save me yet again.. has anyone else experienced this my mother has always talked to me with all civility about the "truth", i just wondered if there is new counsel now in how to deal with daughters and family that have fallen by the wayside.. appreciate your help.

Constitutional Amendment : Slippery Slope
by patio34 inthis was too good to leave on the bush/gay marriage thread so i'm starting a new topic on it: .
the following was sent to me recently: .
as certain politicians work diligently to prevent marriage between two people of the same sex, others of us have been busy drafting a constitutional amendment codifying all marriages entirely on biblical principles.. after all, god wouldn't want us to "pick and choose" which of the scriptures we elevate to civil law and which we choose to ignore:.

Ever looked into how hard it is to add a constitional amendment. It is not to likely on this one and the chances are very low in a split political enviroment like the ones that exist today. It is a presidential election year, time to work the votes you want. Especially since, many "should be Bush-supporters" are not happy with him over other issues right now.

Why does it have to be gay "marriage?"
by spiritwalker ini know this a hot topic, but i had some thinking on it i wanted to discuss.
to begin, i have nothing against a gay man or lesbian woman and consider many to be friends.
i would also like to express from the beginning in plain thought, "i think gay unions should be legal and do not see why it matters.".

I know this a hot topic, but I had some thinking on it I wanted to discuss. To begin, I have nothing against a gay man or lesbian woman and consider many to be friends. I would also like to express from the beginning in plain thought, "I think gay unions should be legal and do not see why it matters."
What is the single biggest threat to marriage and the family arrangement.
As I grew up, I knew so many young people who were in stable families, of love and kindness and with parents who did their best to make life what they wanted it to be for their children. In doing, it can not be ignored that one in two marriages fails and most children are being raised in a single parent environment. With this being the case, and even as an adult today. I have often seen more problems, anger and frustration from a marriage that is breaking-up. Then I have ever seen from a marriage that is coming together. So the biggest threat to marriage and the family arrangement, is not gays getting married, but rather straight people getting divorced and breaking the vow they showed meant nothing.
Why does it have to be called marriage?
The dictionary defines marriage as, "The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife." Which is honestly what I see as the word meaning. I am a straight person, and consider the title of straight to be very fitting. Tomorrow, although I do not find myself to be attracted to the same sex, I am going to start calling myself a gay or lesbian. As definitions do not seem to matter in this world anymore. The sky is now green and the grass is now red. What is my point? It is this, why does the term marriage have to be used when a gay couple get legally bound? Why not a "loving-union" or a "connection of hearts" or any other term, other then the one we know in the dictionary as, "The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife." Basically, I am not gay or a lesbian, as I do not fit the definition and I think the gay/lesbian community would find me saying I was, when I wasn't ... wrong. So I stick with my title the this world give me, straight.
So basically, I see it this way. Allow gay couples to make their union legal in all states, perform ceremonies and make it have all the bells and bows you want. Just do not do two things, do not say gays doing this is a threat to the family arrangement and do not try to pull the wool over my eyes into knowing what the word marriage has meant for 1000's of years. Just find a new word, let the ceremonies begin and lets all get on to something that really matters. Like, who is going to win survivor or something.

A question for former pioneers.
by JV ineverytime you go to an assembly or to a convention or the co pays a visit, there's always a call for people to pioneer.
they always drag out a couple of pioneers on to the stage and "interview" them.
the one question they always ask is if the pioneers have any regrets over pioneering.

I enjoyed it to some degree. I regret only one thing, that I did not experience some things in life that I could have done. I actually wished I went to Bethel, as I actually would have liked the adventure and experience of seeing what it was like first hand. Not that I think now, that I was doing gods work. I just wanted to go to the big city and get out of small town america.

Is a porn star a movie star?
by spiritwalker ini worked in the cable industry for awhile and each year we would go to a convention in which stations would promote themselves to keep our business.
in doing this, there were always the adult channels represented, as well.
while i walked the floor and met people from showtime, hbo and other stations.

I enjoy rose tea. Perhaps your problem with the ingredient, is that you think it is time to make soup. When the word is just drinking some nice tea and enjoying the moment. Personally, in all seriousness, the world is often seen through the glasses we put on. Perhaps mine are rose colored and I see porn as something that is simply an extension of human sexuality. While others see it as a rotten potatoes. Either way, this world offers many flavors to add to this life and we can use them in what ever works best for us and I will drink the "rose tea."

I think we should be careful not to glorify pornography. It demeans women and creates an unrealistic image of sex in the viewer?s mind. From the interviews I have read of women porn stars, many of them say they don?t even have orgasms during a filming. I?m sorry but faking orgasms isn?t acting by traditional means. And many women who have played parts in porn movies wind up regretting their "characters" for a lifetime.
I have seen this point made so much with porn and the link to demeaning woman. I used to think this, but honestly I do not anymore. Woman all around me, at work, with friends and even in my family, sleep around. They are no different then the men and they enjoy that life style to some degree. Does that demean them, any different then it demeans the porn female star who films it. I think the porn actresses might, to some degree, not realize how this discision will affect their future life. As boyfriends and any future relationship, might have a hard time with it. Is that any different though then the man who finds the woman of his dreams and finds out she was sleeping around a lot as a woman, before him? I just think it comes down to what you accept as demeaning, and what society tells you is demeaning.
You might see a woman that films a gang bang, as an abused woman, and demeaning. I might see it as a woman who is making money with her assets while she can. You might see a woman who becomes a lawyer and sues everyone for everything, as a person who is smart and an example of a strong modern woman. I might see a woman who is a bitch and worthless member of a decaying society. It's all in the hang-ups your youth taught you. I always liked the movie "Chasing Amy", as it kind of dealt with this a lot.
There is always going to be a woman, or even a man, who will come forward after porn and say it ruined them. Same with people who joined cults, who come away angry or upset with what it did. Yet there is going to be the other side too. We are a race that is so prudish into our sexual desires, that we must seem amazing odd, to creatures that might study us after are extention. So we screw and film it, so we do things on film, that we would not do in a marriage bed. Big deal, at least people are making some money and doing something many of us appreciate now. Using their freedom to do what makes them happy.
My only concern I have about porn, is that some of the modern things expected of woman, and the men, is not that healthy. Even if the person is desease free. It comes down to bacteria, and unclean behavior. If you need an example of what I am saying, look at the top ten most purchased movies on any adult movie site. You will see descriptions of woman doing things that might make you gage, and involve men doing things to them that does not seem medically safe (not talking anal ... but close). Anyway, the woman do it for the money, and they have since the beginning of time. If they choose to, then it is their choice. I do not see other humans as a representation of my personal pride, and do not see these porn woman as a representation of the high moral woman I know. They are who they are and should not be seen as a demeaning to anyone, other then themselves. If you even consider that kind of behavior demeaning. Which I do not!

While I walked the floor and met people from Showtime, HBO and other stations. It was never hard to figure out where the adult channels were, as these were the most crowded and had the most people taking pictures with the actresses and actors that worked them. In so doing, year after year I actually got a kick out of meeting these woman and talking to them. You would think they would the most whore type people you would imagine and nothing but filth. Yet that was not the case and often they had a fan base of men that were business men and very level headed people.
What I was wondering, after seeing how much people lavished attention on these woman. Can they be considered a movie star in the same ranking of popularity of the Meg Ryan's, or Julia Roberts? Not that they are winning Oscars or Emmy's, but they were very popular and you would be surprised at how many people who claim to not know porn, knew who Ginger Lynn was or Ron Jeremy. Interesting, how we will not admit something that we know we all do.
What do you think, are they all just sluts and whores, or do they deserve a respect of the "movie star" title.

Drama! Wierd, I don't even know you or the situation at hand. I just know this pattern and I have seen it a million times. Just turn of the computer, walk away from the keyboard and stop coming to this site. When you change your feelings, come back. Trust me, you will, about 99% of those who say these dramatic good-byes. Read the boards every day after exit, thinking they will read but not post. Then wham, here they are again, posting after they cooled off. Posting and anger do not mix well. Makes us do foolishing things.

I'm feeling weird right now and maybe a little paranoid, like most everyone does at times. Can I ask everyone, "Do you enjoy my presence here? Would you like me to stay a member of JWD? Be honest now but please don't be too brutal." Like that better?
Well at least it would be honest. Yet, from experience, the same people would always say, "yes stay", while the majority would just over look the drama and post nothing. So either way, your responses will not be a vailid representation of the over all boards feeling. Just a small vocal minority speaking again and again to the same threads.
