i think a lot of space is wasted in arguments that get personal.
we are a varied bunch and i think that variety is good.
i dont want to discourage anyone from posting but personal attacks ( justified or not) dont achieve anything.

i'm not renewing my internet account as of this weekend cos i found a fulltime job.
so i guess it will be goodbye for a long while.. from alan (aka the apostle ak)
Congrats on the job, the girl, the pillaging, etc and See ya Alan,
Of course you know that getting an ISP to stop billing you is harder than getting the dubs to stop calling on you! You'll still be about ;-)
Do give me a call when you can.
Cheers,
Andrew who's experience is that Adelaide is so small they are going to be bumping into you Real Soon Now ;-) [In Adelaide the 4 degrees of separation thing is down to about 2]
i was in the philippines some time ago.
the big religion there is a group called `iglesia ni cristo`(literally church of christ).
an indigenous group which sprung up around the turn of the century.. it has since become hugh(in the philippines).
Interesting question. I tend to agree with your summation: right time, right place.
Iglesia ni Christi in Phillipines is quite different to WTBTS, but is also a product of time and place. It has only managed to make a very small inroad into the 95% (from memory - could be higher) Catholic nation. The two bits of Catholicism that it did not shrug off - as evidenced by the ostentatious churches - almost as big and bright as mormon temples and for the same reason - is tithing and Phillipino cultural affinity for power, prestige, politics, pomp, ceromony and heirachy.
BTW there are 3 InC's in Sydney, Australia.
Andrew.
no, this ain't no advertisement, since the auction is long over.... * http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/ebayisapi.dll?viewitem&item=1129186088.
just wanted to illustrate the value some collectors put on the old watchtower stuff, and that it is wise to hang onto it and if someone wants to 'pay through the teeth' to acquire it, well and good, because that way it is preserved, and not gone and forgotten, but rather the watchtower's rich heritage lives on and the litter-chewer & sundry memorabilia is on someone's shelf or in their display cabinet for anyone to see in case there's a future challenge that such never existed.. who in their right mind would pay over $13 bucks for a little worm-eaten tea bag??
a krazy kult kollector, that's who!.
Luv ya TT.
Damn dem tea-eating little buggers!
I'm out looking for Watchtower Phonographs! http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1402393518
Cheers,
Andrew.
it's quite amusing to read the self-exaltation contained within.
the watchtower and contrast it with the organization's sterile.
reality.
Nice post Meta.
The post-Christian society in Australia is much less interested in any drawn out discussion of religious semantics, especially JW anachronisms. The general man in the street knows dubs only by the "nutty" dogmas ie. blood and door-to-door preaching.
That leaves the ministry a pretty boring activity - even more so than it was - and there are far less coffee shops in Australia to boot! The ministry is left as 99% not-at-home or overt anti-interests, and 1% fundies of some other persausion debating their favourite angle with no risk of change on either side.
The meetings get duller as every day goes by, the content either mindlessly dumbed down YMCA (Yesterday's meat cooked again) or rantings about JW practice and adherence or lack thereof.
I have a good story from the field service (theirs not mine) on Saturday afternoon. I was riding my bike down a main road and could see two book-bagged dubs loitering about 300 yards further down the road. I was thinking if I would try the "can I join you in the ministry" line someone suggested here the other day when I noticed in the bus-stop two A's - one either end of the seat! (wonder how they got there? - LOL) At least one was April 8 and one April 22 (this year!).
I got off my bike - went back and collected them and rode down to the loiterers. I handed them to the two older brothers and said "I think you must have dropped these in the bus stop - I'm sure you don't want to lose them" and just got back on my bike.
Cheers,
Andrew of the "helping take the boredom out of it" class.
i was speaking with java and he related how some who are "floor cleaners" working for a religious org.
are dfsp for making a living there, and there is this elder who is working for the united nations for 25 yrs and still is an elder in good standing .
perque?
new light of course.
The UN dogma was always way off the level.
Andrew of the "we never said" class.
told by the elders yesterday that since i'm a official at a sports match on saturdays and i won't quit doing it (they mention it occasionally to me at meetings), that they won't be allowing me to get baptised the next assembly coming up.
it might matter if i was working 5 days a week but at the moment i'm only working 2 days......(i've already racked up 50 hours this month).
i remember a talk a while back with the theme "what prevents you from getting baptised?
Hey Uncle Moose (c)ApostleAK
Speak for yourself you old Vampire tracker. I thought you'd DF'd me. Hope you enjoyed your Easter. I'm still enjoying mine.
I'll be in Sydney next week some time - we should catch up - I think the vampire haunts this site too - was it Yadirf or someone else? Perhaps we could all catch up for a drink?
rgds to you and yours too,
Andrew.
like new zealand the uk will shortly hold it's 10 year census.. rumour has it that if 10,000 people say they belong to a certain religion, ie "jedi", then that religion is officially recognised by the state.. is it my devious mind, or do i see an opportunity for a bit of fun here?.
is this the one time that a chain email could be useful?.
and what would get the uk dubs hot under the collar?.
Um. I'm not sure how badly things get translated by the time they get to Vatican city, but we don't have an Australian Census Board here in Australia.
Of course it would not surprise me if the New Zealanders (they are not another state of Australia yet) decided to use a Census Board made up of Australians. Then again, perhaps NZ has decided to do a Census in Australia because there are more Kiwis there than on the remote islands.
Anyway, if you thought the Australians had anything to do with it officially aka federally, I'd suggest the folks to talk to would be the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Slashdot could well be just taking the mickey out of the sheep-humpers.
Aussie Andrew sceptical still but sure that Apostates have beliefs, worship etc.

Hey AAK, How about dropping me an email at [email protected]? I will be in Adelaide for at least a few days next week - I have an office in the city, and suggest we catch up for coffee (say). Yep - the photo's real - although I took the horns off ;-)
rgds,
Andrew relaxing on hols this week.
just heard from an elder friend from a neighbouring congregation that a nearby congregation has had the whole body of elders removed for wrongdoing.
report is confirmed from a independant source.
Hey AAK - it sounds like you don't live in SA anymore. Where do you live now? - perhaps we could catch up some time - I travel pretty extensively.
Andrew.
