It's a shame that people have to feel that they have to self deprecate to refrain from doing what is supposed to be volunteer work for an organization they no longer want to be a part of. -

The officer said he over-reacted. The officers lawyer said the officer let his emotions get the best of him. His boss said his actions were indefensible. The teenager who filmed the event who was white said he over-reacted and that he targeted the black kids.
...and yet, all of these armchair law enforcement para-professionals who've never been at the business end of a police officer with a bad attitude and would rather pretend that such an officer don't exist, want to give him Presidential Medal of Honor and the Nobel Peace Prize for extraordinary police work.
This might be funny if it wasn't so silly to watch.

he was over-emotional after a traumatic day.
Great "Monday morning excuse". Perhaps he should've recognized that fact and taken the rest of the day off.
They obviously don't get to go home and get counselling after attending a serious incident. No, they are sent right out to the next one .... and the next one ... and the next one ...
No....that is not obvious. That is just a supposition you're using to support your position. Ten years on the force...I'm confident that he had plenty of sick time and vacation stashed away that could've been used to get himself together. A police union rep would've helped him out on this.
Police departments are choc full of counselors for policeman dealing with stressful situations. Based upon his actions that day, his character is that of one who'd probably think he was showing weakness by availing himself of those services.
Wow. I guess the little bitch think's she deserves a pay-day for her behavior.
"Little Bitch"? Wow..... And why not? There sure is no shortage of people here trying to pin a badge of honor no caseDolts behavior even though his own superior have determined that he was out of line.

You guys are terminally intent on bolstering your positions by arguing false equivalencies.
No one here, I don't think, is denying that the police have a tough and often thankless job. No one here thinks they are superhuman and incapable of making mistakes. And I am sure that everyone here and in the community of McKinney appreciate the jobs the bulk the police do. 11 of the police called out to the community did their jobs professionally and I suspect, that those are the ones the community is appreciative of. Despite your protestations to the contrary and contrary to the judgement of the leadership of department from which he was employed, one didn't, and now he must pay the price for errors in judgement to grevious to ignore. All of this speculation that caseDolt was thrown under the bus and that the whole community supports his actions is just that, and not an indisputable fact save to those who want to proclaim his heavy handedness a heroic virtue. HE RESIGNED without a shot fired to keep his job!!!! He wasn't fired.......yet.
caseDolt, based upon the judgement of his own brethren, his actions measured against the training and professional standards of the department did not act within the conduct required of the police department that day. And he was called to the carpet for it. I highly doubt that he and police officers making the same collosoll lapses in judgement will be the standard by which the more professional, intelligent, and disciplined officers base their decisions on to be in law enforcement despite your slippery slope assertion.

On occasion I've watched a television reality show titled Cops. To me this is one of true reality shows.
Here's what I saw repeatedly:
People of every race and gender who acted badly met stiff confrontation from responding law enforcement personnel. I've seen it happen to white and black "Becky Sues".Indeed
What you didn't see were a cop running around completely out of control screaming expletives at people, doing barrel rolls, and using heavy handed tactics on half-naked, unarmed, female minor civilians without clearly sufficient cause. What you also didn't see were prior related bad incidents used as justification for their own unprofessional and near criminal behavior.
What you did see were cops, either alone or in a team effort exhausting every effort to resolving issues peacefully and without escalation and incident and not running around like a bull in a china shop.

C'mon - we all know that if that was a white girl it would not have been on the news, there would be no speeches by community leaders or marches.
Please......
If the race roles were reversed and there was a 200 lb. black cop with both his knees in the back of "lil Becky Sue" you guys would be screaming bloody murder for his arrest and crooning incessantly about how unprofessional his actions were.

He'll have plenty of company.......
Paul
It occurs to me that if most of the people here think that "piece of work" officer was within the bounds of professional policing and that his actions were justifyable and above board then perhaps it was the other 11 officers and their police chief that were lacking in professional police technique and needs to be retrained.
Yes, that surely must be the case......
casebolt (note the small "c") should keep his job and all the 11 other police officers should be fired for not rolling into the situation like a bull in a china shop, throwing people to the ground, screaming obscenities, and dragging bikini clad girls across concrete and gsass as a way or projecting respect and authority. Perhaps they all should have drawn their weapons and pointed them at all unarmed teenagers because they were acting with criminal intent by not moving fast enough outside, behind, and away from the officers field of vision.
You know, there are plenty of places where a teen might hide a gun while they're wearing swimming trunks or a two piece bathing suit.
As a side note, who was that big 400 pound guy running interference for caseDolt while he manhandled a half naked teen girl half his size?
If that were my daughter, along with caseDolt, I would've liked to gorilla stomp his ass as well.

We just happen to know part of the sequence in this case (the part videoed) and we know the outcome was that no one was seriously injured of killed.
Indeed Marvin.
However with respect to how the officer escalated the event we can surely conclude that the outcome was in spite of the officers actions, and not because of them.

That is commonly known as Monday morning quarterbacking.
So is assuming that becauseof that rabid officers actions, there was a safe outcome where everyone went home alive.

What I saw was a bunch of mouthy teenagers dispersing, albeit a little slower than might be required for some of the people here grasping at straws trying to justify the Napoleanic police's actions. The eleven other officers seemed to have had no problem with the pace of the dispersement.....only the cop running around acting like a maniac throwing people to the ground when he showed up completely out of control. It is just as likely that the situation would have resolved itself peacefully and without further incident without the heavy handed tactics of that rabid animal given time.
Now that the cowardly cop has turned in his two word (I resign) notice in the face of the negative backlash from his actions even from his law enforcement brethren, it's time to find another boogieman as a way of justifying heavy handed police behavior. Criminals and knucklehead are going to do what criminals and knuckleheads do. That seems a weak reason to try and justify or even tolerate police acting criminally under the guise of protecting the neighborhood.
