Hello and Welcome doogie!
hey guys.. i have a question.
i noticed that when i go online i'll hit a couple of news websites, maybe check my email, but eventually i always seem to find my way to some sort of jw related site.
yeah, i know, that's not a question...hold on, i'm getting to it.... is there a time when an ex-jw should become an ex-ex-jw?
...no one wants to be bound by there past, but we are certainly shaped by it.
We are forever changed!

Hello and Welcome doogie!
when i got married, my wife was an inactive baptized jw who promised me that she was done with it forever.
i became daddy to her two children, ages 2 and 3. a few months after we got married, i walked in on her meeting with two jw elders.
they tried to convince me that it was a great, harmless thing for her to be involved in.
IMO...
Keep a diary of all her marital and parental negligence and confront her and her elders friends. Also discuss it with your attorney and get a clear picture of your options.
You might want to have her work FULL TIME to keep her busy and your daughter away from Field Service (the preaching work). If she talks about Pioneering insist she work full time, (perhaps to save for your daughters college tuition).
Use your 'Head of the House' status to your best advantage!
I've tried logic, rage, kindness , derision, etc.,Logic and kindness, YES Rage, derision, etc... NO

By the way, I just got back from GA. I was there all week doing some paperwork for new employees. About 90% of them are black. And all of these jobs are technical positions. There are a lot of minorities in hi tech fields today...I am just as likely to talk to someone that is african american as white for most of the positions I have recruited for.
I'm glad to hear that. It seems that the black community may be divided into two parts, those quietly working to advance themselves and those who are stuck on blaming others for their situation.
I hate to go down the 'My Black Friends' road, even so, most of my black friends are better educated and have better jobs that me.

I think the gist of my posts here (unless I was trying to refute what I believed to an erroneous point of view) , when it comes to Cosby's comments at least, are aimed at trying to raise the bar of discussion concerning socioeconomic realities and the ever-present race issue. That has little to do with blaming anybody for anythig solely based on what color they happen to be.
After re-reading your posts I think your right, we are Philosphically not much different. I stand corrected and appologise.
What you say here could apply equally to children all over America. It's not a racial problem, it's a societal problem. Which is one of the things that makes Cosby's criticism so unfair.
This seems to be our only disagreement, and it is a small one. Not that what your saying isn't true, it's just that Cosby's main concern is the black cause. I don't think his wanting to focus more on that invalidates his arguement.

The Black race resents the White race??!?!?! This is news to me! To think I married a White man! I guess I missed the "Black Memo" where the rules were all laid out.
You were out that day!............I'm sorry, I couldn't resist!
ok, i've been wondering about this for while.. there are different member levels here.
what are they all and how many posts etc do you make before you graduate to the next level?.
i know silly but something i've been dying to know.. lehaa.
Interesting...for the most part the numbers double at each level. I'm glad Lehaa you asked.
what was the very first thing that "stumbled" you?
mine was: i was about 5 or 6 years old and of course i used to find it really hard to find things in my bible at meetings (couldn't find the books quick enough before they moved onto the next paragraph and used to get frustrated).
i had the idea to make little tabs for the edges of the pages so i could tell where the books were - so i asked mum to help me neatly write out the book names on tiny slips of paper and tape them inside.
The attitude that the GB and their views and policies were above scrutiny or questioning.
I went through that nonsense as a Catholic with the Pope!

I rarely see this much concern over "white" issues. Only 21 percent of whites go to college. Work on those numbers. Thousands of whites live in poverty, talk about that, too.
Your right! I think the problem lies with the main stream media having a liberal politcal agenda to advance and 'uses' the black race as pawns to do so. The plight of poor whites (and anyone else in hardship) does not work to their advantage politicaly and so are not highlited much.
I just don't think that what Cosby did and how he did it will accomplish anything.
I wonder how seriously Rev. King was taken when he started out?

...This is just a re-hashing of old stereotypes and prejudices. Which is what speeches like Cosby's tend to promote.
I disagree bigboi. If it were a white person saying these things I would have to consider the possibility that were the case, but Bill is a black man passionately concerned for his fellow black people. I agree with him, attitudes have to change, awareness has to increase and education has to be stressed...Or else things are going to stay the SAME!
Philosphically, your opinions are not much different than my own.You know youself better than I bigboi, from what I've read from your posts on this thread though, I don't see it.

I think what he said goes for a lot of people, black and white.
No doubt about it. Poor attitude and ignorance are an universal problem.

Cosby is just hitting the target. That hurts...That is why it's good that bill presents it as positive criticism, not tearing down criticism.
Absolutely, the truth is often painful because our egos and self-worth get bruised.

There were more black children than white achieving academic excellence awards ( scholarships) than white.
Education / re-education is the answer. I glad to hear its happening in some places!

I wouldn't be too surprised if some blacks out there disagree with Crosby and call him an "Uncle Tom" Just the same they called Clarance Thomas one as he became a US Supreme Court Judge.
That's for certain, it's only a matter of time.

There is too much of the ..."I don't have the opportunities" mentality going around...
As long as we blame others for our problems is just how long we'll be stuck with them. What if Martin Luther King had the 'woe is me attitude?'

they are NOT handing chances to low budget people in the ghetto, so low budget people in those ghetto's try to make it any way they can..by any means..
Well bigboi, you certainly got everyones attention! Thank you for adding life to my thread.
You and I are at opposite ends of the issue though. I'm big on personal responcibility and effort, not waiting for others to do it for me or for making excuses why my lack of achievement is the fault of others. I would often tell my children, "If you want a living standard like we have, do what I've done. If you want more than you have to be more than I am (a truck driver with a 9th grade education) be more than I am." I stressed education a lot!
How many East Indians are there in the US? Are they truly assimilated or do they tend to live in their own parts of town....like Chinese immigrants and Hispanic and Blacks?
I actualy don't think it's wrong for people of the same race or nationality to collect together, to live with each other to associate with each other. I think it's only natural. I believe it's only a problem when we view our particular group to be the best, to be superior. That's when problems arise. Respect, tolorance and humility is manditory if there is to be peaceful and good relations with each other.

this would be a true statement if ALL WHO ARE POOR AND UNEDUCATED are that way by no fault of their own, but the fact is in the black community getting straight A's in your avg inner black High School is considered BEING WHITE-
When I first heard this I knew the black youth were in serious trouble. Dooming themselves to poverty.

It's so sad, tragic. The American Indian is still trapped on reservations?! In 2004??!!

Cosby is right!!! Some people just can't handle the truth.
I think Mr. Cosby's understanding of the situation is exactly right. He is criticaly viewing the problem intellectualy rather than emotionaly. The answers that come are based in reality and not on desires.

I find it interesting though, that some of the biggest supporters of Bill Cosby on this issue don't have a dog on the race, and seem glad to just be able to vent their frustrations about blacks. You noticed that too?
What???
They ripple effect on ALL of us is in-escapable! How can we non-blacks not be concerned???
Hey, at least black women are getting on the ball. If the trend continues I think things will start to look up. Educated moms will pass on the importance for education to their children.
Then we agree, there is a serious problem that needs to be address.

I'm glad Cosby had the balls to say what he has said. My husband is too. It definitely needs to be addressed because these kids are really going nowhere. They wind up drug addicts, prostitutes (single teenage moms abound here) criminals etc. It's a pretty sad situation at least where I am.
And that's what it takes of us to fix any problem. We need to grow a backbone, see it for what it is then roll our sleeves up and go to work.
I also am a Astro Boy fan. I used to live and breathe it as a child.

Cosby Has Harsh Words for Black Community
By DON BABWIN, Associated Press Writer
CHICAGO - Bill Cosby ( news ) went off on another tirade against the black community Thursday, telling a room full of activists that black children are running around not knowing how to read or write and "going nowhere."
He also had harsh words for struggling black men, telling them: "Stop beating up your women because you can't find a job."
Cosby made headlines in May when he upbraided some poor blacks for their grammar and accused them of squandering opportunities the civil rights movement gave them. He shot back Thursday, saying his detractors were trying in vain to hide the black community's "dirty laundry."
"Let me tell you something, your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day, it's cursing and calling each other n------ as they're walking up and down the street," Cosby said during an appearance at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition & Citizenship Education Fund's annual conference.
"They think they're hip," the entertainer said. "They can't read; they can't write. They're laughing and giggling, and they're going nowhere."
In his remarks in May at a commemoration of the anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education desegregation decision, Cosby denounced some blacks' grammar and said those who commit crimes and wind up behind bars "are not political prisoners."
"I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk," Cosby said then. "And then I heard the father talk ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth."
Cosby elaborated Thursday on his previous comments in a talk interrupted several times by applause. He castigated some blacks, saying that they cannot simply blame whites for problems such as teen pregnancy and high school dropout rates.
"For me there is a time ... when we have to turn the mirror around," he said. "Because for me it is almost analgesic to talk about what the white man is doing against us. And it keeps a person frozen in their seat, it keeps you frozen in your hole you're sitting in."
Cosby lamented that the racial slurs once used by those who lynched blacks are now a favorite expression of black children. And he blamed parents.
"When you put on a record and that record is yelling `n----- this and n----- that' and you've got your little 6-year-old, 7-year-old sitting in the back seat of the car, those children hear that," he said.
He also condemned black men who missed out on opportunities and are now angry about their lives.
"You've got to stop beating up your women because you can't find a job, because you didn't want to get an education and now you're (earning) minimum wage," Cosby said. "You should have thought more of yourself when you were in high school, when you had an opportunity."
Cosby appeared Thursday with the Rev. Jesse Jackson ( news - web sites ), founder and president of the education fund, who defended the entertainer's statements.
"Bill is saying let's fight the right fight, let's level the playing field," Jackson said. "Drunk people can't do that. Illiterate people can't do that."
Cosby also said many young people are failing to honor the sacrifices made by those who struggled and died during the civil rights movement.
"Dogs, water hoses that tear the bark off trees, Emmett Till," he said, naming the black youth who was tortured and murdered in Mississippi in 1955, allegedly for whistling at a white woman. "And you're going to tell me you're going to drop out of school? You're going to tell me you're going to steal from a store?"
Cosby also said he wasn't concerned that some whites took his comments and turned them "against our people."
"Let them talk," he said.

I admire his courage to 'call it as he sees it' and to speak without fear or reservation about what he believes!
This raises my respect for him far above what I already had for him as an accomplished entertainer!
it was monday at the temple.

it's not a pagoda or anytihng, it's actually an old farm house which has been well maintained.
Yeah, tell me about it...Say is that a picture of SoDamn Insane your using now?? LOL

My mother and brother (JW's) were there and they remained seated (although I can't really figure out why, since it's not really a patriotic song) while the rest of the family and assorted boyfriends/girlfriends/wives stood up. It was a milestone because we all (former JWs) stood and showed our respect for those murdered at the WTC, despite my seated JW Mom looking at my seated JW brother and making the "pshawww" hand wave with her hand while whispering and rolling her eyes at the lyrics:
This is sad and shows how deep the cult mentality goes and reveals how self-righteous the Witnesses are!
(No disrespect intended...)
