  Rational Buddhism?

  does a type of buddhism exist that doesn't include the metaphysical aspects of traditional buddhism?

  there is a pbs documentary on Buddha I really liked.. I am much more intrigued by the emaciated buddha than the fat buddha we always see.. http://www.pbs.org/thebuddha/ I think you can watch the whole show on youtube also

  my 10 year old son is paying attention at the meetings

  the public talk on sunday was about evolution.. my son pointed out flaws in the speakers arguments during and after the meeting... mostly about how animals aren't able to communicate etc.

  he even brought up coco the ape that is able to communicate via sign.. i told him that i heard a ton of inconsistencies but i am afraid to say anything because your mom will get angry :).

  im glad he is paying attention.. and the school system must be doing something right..

  yeah.. the speaker was saying only humans have language.. or something like that makes us different from animals.

  I wonder why if we are not animals we eat, shlt and fcuk like them.

  i wonder how they will live during retirement.. i know most will not have a retirement and work till they die.

  i wonder if you get social security in the US.. but thats based on your income during your working years right.

  yeah.. he is 10.. i was happy he was using critical thinking for that talk.. because i was sitting there steaming from all the BS he was spewing.. these people are so stupid.

  How did you find the truth? - the loaded question.

  had dinner this weekend with a jw family and met a bunch of new jws.

  one of them who was not very talkative at all and out of the blue asked me how i found "the truth".

  i answered how my family has always been starting with my great grandfather.. then he clarified his question.. he said something about how this is a great question and people always talk about their spiritual heritage.

  had dinner this weekend with a JW family and met a bunch of new JWs. One of them who was not very talkative at all and out of the blue asked me how I found "The Truth". I answered how my family has always been starting with my great grandfather.

  Then he clarified his question.. he said something about how this is a great question and people always talk about their spiritual heritage. but the question really is when/how/why did you make the truth your own?

  My answer was "there was no defining moment when I made it my own" I realized I could be getting into some hot water there but I wanted to be honest.

  I asked him how he found "it" because I try not to use the word "Truth". Apparently he at the age of 27 decided it was "The Truth" after one study. Apparently his mother became a witness but he never really studied. and he finally accepted a study after being pestered by the JWs to take the study.

  It is amazing that he could make this decision at age 27. I never had that luxury. I had to make mine around age 15. My next logical question for him would have been "so you swallowed 'The Truth' hook line and sinker? Never questioned anything?" I didnt though.. that was the end of our conversation :)

  this week's bible reading leviticus chap 19 - 21 - my opening remarks

  so.. some asshole visits another asshole but a mob erupts and wants to rape the visiting asshole.. the host asshole offers his daughter and the visiting asshole's concubine to appease the mob.. sure enough.. the concubine ends up gang raped and murdered.

  in the morning the visiting asshole loads her up on his donkey, takes her home, dismembers her body into 12 pieces and sends it to all the tribes to incite war.. so an army of 22,000 is formed, some prick goes and asks jehovah if they should go and destroy the gang raping mob.. and jehovah says 'yes.. do it.

  they go to fight and loose all 22,000 die.

  so my point is.. the GB encourages people to read the bible and meditate on it.. but you are forced to draw the same conclusion the GB made. or you are forced to interpret the verses the way the GB/FDS interprets them.

  JW.ORG has jehovahs backing

  been hearing this from various people from the cong that jw.org is a clear sign that god is directing the org.. i have various friends in the it dept not only in brooklyn but mexico and colombia, just a fact there is 5 to 6 it dept all over the world that give support to jworgie 24/7... so i have ask them how they came up with the website wich is not the best but not the worst by far.

  all four of them told me the same story, there is a brother in florida that is profesor of some kind computer class and as project he made them work on the website so students of these college helped launch this site.. so more like jah backing it has more like satan backing...
