Who's Happy To Go Abroad and Drive on the Other Side?

i do it most years.

being in the uk, virtually every other country nearby drives on the right.

we drive on the left.

We rented a car to drive all over Ireland some years ago. (Glad we did, the best way to see what you want)

its a total game-changer with google maps, or some sort of gps.

it gives you total directions, what lane to be in, what's coming up ahead of you, etc.

I think we would have gotten lost multiple times without it, as the street signs in many cities are very small (sometimes just on the side of a building)

If you're renting a vehicle in the uk, be sure to get (and get familiar with) some type of navigation (they will rent them with the vehicle)

If you've got good insurance (might even be included with your credit card, ours was) with gps and someone helping you navigate, you'll be fine!

You've got to get used to the narrower lanes for sure, but once you're used to that it's no problem!

Going in different directions

was visiting with some old friends a while ago, and got to hear some interesting updates about their congregation.. there is a new family moved in, from the ukraine, and are very zealous.

when giving their experience (they're quite new in the "truth") they feel strongly that the religion has changed their life.. they were ready to divorce, but from studying the bible, etc., they are now a happy family.. its really a yearbook type example that make a lot witnesses feel vindicated.. on the other extreme, in the same congregation, a teenager just graduating (an elders son) just up and left and moved in with a "worldly" family.

he told his parents he doesn't believe it's the truth, and actually believes in evolution.. he was being "encouraged" to get baptized, but he managed to avoid that.

From what was told he didn't want to have to go to the meetings any more, which his parents of course wouldn't allow.

It seems he made some close friends at school that let him move in.

For me, I think both examples are okay. If the bible helps you with life, and the witness lifestyle is for you, then that's great.

But for a 17 year old to have to leave home, because he doesn't believe, is totally wrong. That's what I think most on this forum find offensive, we're not supposed to have freedom of choice or religion.

Recent letter about ldc

not sure if this is being done in other countries, but here in canada they've just announced the need for holiday trailers for ldc volunteers to use.. they're hoping people will donate these evidently.

not some run-down thing, it's got to be a fairly recent model and also a fifth-wheel.. i guess this is where the more materialistic witnesses will have to step up!.

End of Financial Year; 12 congregations disappear

Recently the number of congregations in Saskatoon Saskatchewan dropped to 6.

Many years ago (80's I think) there used to be 14. They had gone down to 9 at some point, and now 6, yet the city and province has been growing in population.

I guess they will be rather large groups now, they want to make it harder to find seats.

The Public Talks

i remember when i use to give a number of public talks.

i had a binder with every public talk listed by number in it.

i don't have it anymore.. when i did the fade in 2002 after 33 years a slave since 1969. i destroyed all my watchtower materials and i had a lot.

That flood talk was given not long ago here(wife told me all about it)

The brother was someone I would consider quite intelligent, but he still gave all the biblical reasoning, and tried to correspond with "science". (World is 70% water, mountains were much smaller, etc)

It would be nice if they could explain kangaroos in Australia or at least some attempt at the huge rate of evolution needed for countless species in only 4500 years.

Great tribulation

you've likely heard all this before, but i had to laugh (silently) at the public talk today.. he focused on how close we are to the end.

we're not only in the last days, but we're in "the final part" of the last days.. also, we are nearing "the end of the final part of the last days".

he didn't read any scriptures backing up how the last days are broken up like this.. i went today since relatives es were visiting, but it was more entertaining than usual.. as well, the gb isn't warning us about armageddon, rather they're mainly warning about the great tribulation, which is "very, very, close!

Convention statistic

the wife got back from the convention, and mentioned one point from the co talk.. he gave the statistic that on average, there are about 780 people baptized every day in the world!

everyone was amazed.. i broke it to her that there used to be a lot more.

i recall giving a talk and at that time there were around 1200/day.

I broke it to her that there used to be a lot more. I recall giving a talk and at that time there were around 1200/day. (likely 15 or 20 years ago)

I'm sure it's going to be a downward trend for a long time.
