i've noticed that quite a few people on this board have said that they are now pagan.
i'm starting to wonder if converting to paganism is something that many ex-jws do?
being a pagan myself, i am actually surprised at how i could choose the religion that jws probably hate the most.

I've just began studying Wicca within the past few months and I have 2 exJW friends who have been Wiccan's for years. I also know of an ex Ministerial Servant who, upon leaving the Witnesses became Wiccan.
After JWs spend years having god shoved down their throat and every move they make watched, I think it's natural to convert to a religion who doesn't worship the traditional god. At least that's the case with me.

I know the feeling, Queenie. A few weeks ago, after being out for 2 1/2 years, and elder calls me out of the blue to meet with me. How he got my new number, I don't know, but he called me to encourage me to "come back to the fold". It took me totally by suprise, and out of shock, I agreed to meet with he and another elder. A few hours later, I realized what I had just done and called him back to cancel, saying I am satisfied with the way my life is now.

ok ok ok so i stole englishman's phrasing.. one thing i'd been noticing about a certain troll's posts, they seem to center around personal accomplishments.. perhaps, that's not such a bad thing.
this person obviously isn't getting any encouragement to pursue "selfish desires" by the congregation, therefore he and others feel the need to go bragging.. growing up jw doesn't exactly encourage your creativity; on the contrary it stifles artistic expression and personal growth.. so perhaps there is something that *you* can do very well (or not so well but it's still your thang as jt would say) that is very special.. we all know that dave (seven) is great at art, and tr can pick any damn lock he chooses, but what about the rest of us?.

I was a pretty decent artist growing up.
In high school, my art teachers encouraged me to apply to Columbus College of Art and Design and maybe try for scholarships. When I mentioned the idea to my mother, she rolled her eyes and told me how impractical it was.
"You need to get into to secretarial work....Something to support yourself while this system winds down. You will have forever to practice your artwork in the new system. You don't need to be going away to college and be exposed to that immoral environment." she said. Thus, five years later, I'm sitting at a desk typing this message, although I still paint and draw on weekends.
