part 1: breaking ground with crisis of conscience .
while attending the district convention at the cow palace in san francisco, the jw man who had brought me into the religion, told me that ray franz had resigned from the governing body, and several were disfellowshipped from bethel in a major cleaning out of apostates.
i was shocked, and asked why ray franz would resign.
Amazing:
Very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to reading more!

if you had to describe your life through a fantasy character in a film, who would it be?
if you cant figure out any movie role that fits, what would be a role you would love to live?.
i kind of see my life a bit like the character neo in the matrix but at times would like to live a life like tom hanks in castaway.. what about you?
As far as personality goes, I would say I behave most like Meg Ryan in "You've Got Mail". My life is similar to hers, without the "happily ever after" ending.
while reading the abortion thread on this site today, i was reminded of a college class i took on dealing with ethical and moral issues.
i learned something interesting in this class and it was that just because we have strong beliefs about something, it doesn't give us any rights to impose our beliefs on others.. this is of course the "christian" way...to demand that their beliefs should be the standard by which we all live our lives.
this intolerance, or in milder cases disgust for nonconformers, is in itself one of the huge moral issues we face.. essentially, regardless of things being right or wrong, our world defines societal norms by community standards.
This is a really hard question!!! When visualizing myself being in the situation, I would defininitely put the children in the raft first. There is nothing more heartwrenching than seeing a small helpless human being suffering while you stand by and watch. Along with Andrew's train of thought, I would definitely want a strong man who was capable of surviving harsh conditions in there, a very motherly type woman to take care of the kids, and another person (man or woman) who could be a backup if anything were to happen to one of the adults.

Skally:
Haven't heard anything about it yet. Exactly who committed suicide? Was it one of the people in the hot seat that had to testify? Keep us updated.

It's all cool, Ashi. I understand your motives totally. I guess I should have been a little more thoughtful of the consequences of posting such information.

While I think it was a mistake for me to post the names of the elders, I don't think lurkers who are having bad experiences with the society are going to be turned off by what we say. They may, in fact be able to relate to what we are feeling, which could make them more determined to leave.
Those JWs NOT having doubts about the society that are hanging around are only here to cause trouble anyway. So I don't give a flying fuck what they think about my opinions.
