My home Town
by Peppermint inthere was a time when i understood where i came from.
most people from my hometown would have similar goals and aspirations.
it has always been diverse and welcoming to outsiders, but now i feel like the outsider and not particularly welcome myself.

It is a sad thing to feel a stranger in the place of your birth. anyone else feel like that?

Jethro Tull - Your Favorite Songs and Albums from this Group ?
by flipper ingrowing up, jethro tull was one of my favorite groups as they had a great mix of rock , celtic mix , and great guitar from martin barre and ian anderson on flute was arguably one of the greatest flute players in rock n' roll .
as an interesting side note : my wifes 15 minutes claim to fame was when her ex-husband and her in the 1980's sold fish to markets , her ex-husband called ian anderson on the phone to see how he did salmon farming and talk about the fish business.
weird, huh?

"I used to clean Ian Andersons windows years ago."
I fitted windows for the drummer. A very nice chap , can't remember his name. He was breading red setters I seem to remember. -

Journey-on I like your poem.
here is another one with a different slant on things:
Ballad of the Breadman
Mary stood in the kitchen
Baking a loaf of bread.
An angel flew in the window
‘We’ve a job for you,’ he said.
‘God in his big gold heaven
Sitting in his big blue chair,
Wanted a mother for his little son.
Suddenly saw you there.’
Mary shook and trembled,
‘It isn’t true what you say.’
‘Don’t say that,’ said the angel.
‘The baby’s on its way.’
Joseph was in the workshop
Planing a piece of wood.
‘The old man’s past it,’ the neighbours said.
‘That girls been up to no good.’
‘And who was that elegant fellow,’
They said. ‘in the shiny gear?’
The things they said about Gabriel
Were hardly fit to hear.
Mary never answered,
Mary never replied.
She kept the information,
Like the baby, safe inside.
It was the election winter.
They went to vote in the town.
When Mary found her time had come
The hotels let her down.
The baby was born in an annexe
Next to the local pub.
At midnight, a delegation
Turned up from the Farmers’ club.
They talked about an explosion
That made a hole on the sky,
Said they’d been sent to the Lamb and Flag
To see God come down from on high.
A few days later a bishop
And a five-star general were seen
With the head of an African country
In a bullet-proof limousine.
‘We’ve come,’ they said ‘with tokens
For the little boy to choose.’
Told the tale about war and peace
In the television news.
After them cam the soldiers
With rifle and bombs and gun,
Looking for enemies of the state.
The family had packed up and gone.
When they got back to the village
The neighbours said, to a man,
‘That boy will never be one of us,
Though he does what he blessed well can.’
He went round to all the people
A paper crown on his head.
Here is some bread from my father.
Take, eat, he said.
Nobody seemed very hungry.
Nobody seemed to care.
Nobody saw the god in himself
Quietly standing there.
He finished up in the papers.
He came to a very bad end.
He was charged with bringing the living to life.
No man was that prisoner’s friend.
There’s only one kind of punishment
To fit that kind of crime.
They rigged a trial and shot him dead.
They were only just in time.
They lifted the young man by the leg,
Thy lifted him by the arm,
They locked him in a cathedral
In case he came to harm.
They stored him safe as water
Under seven rocks.
One Sunday morning he burst out
Like a jack-in-the-box.
Through the town he went walking.
He showed them the holes in his head.
Now do you want any loaves? He cried.
‘Not today’ they said.

I love poetry but not the romantic soppy stuff. Give me a little bit of humor but not too much, some irony and and wit and I am happy.
In Westminster Abbey
Let me take this other glove off
As the vox humana swells,
And the beauteous fields of Eden
Bask beneath the Abbey bells.
Here, where England's statesmen lie,
Listen to a lady's cry.
Gracious Lord, oh bomb the Germans.
Spare their women for Thy Sake,
And if that is not too easy
We will pardon Thy Mistake.
But, gracious Lord, whate'er shall be,
Don't let anyone bomb me.
Keep our Empire undismembered
Guide our Forces by Thy Hand,
Gallant blacks from far Jamaica,
Honduras and Togoland;
Protect them Lord in all their fights,
And, even more, protect the whites.
Think of what our Nation stands for,
Books from Boots and country lanes,
Free speech, free passes, class distinction,
Democracy and proper drains.
Lord, put beneath Thy special care
One-eighty-nine Cadogan Square.
Although dear Lord I am a sinner,
I have done no major crime;
Now I'll come to Evening Service
Whensoever I have the time.
So, Lord, reserve for me a crown.
And do not let my shares go down.
I will labour for Thy Kingdom,
Help our lads to win the war,
Send white flowers to the cowards
Join the Women's Army Corps,
Then wash the Steps around Thy Throne
In the Eternal Safety Zone.
Now I feel a little better,
What a treat to hear Thy word,
Where the bones of leading statesmen,
Have so often been interr'd.
And now, dear Lord, I cannot wait
Because I have a luncheon date.

Why do the majorityof JW's look so happy at the hall?
by JH ineach time i go, i see a bunch of happy people, young and old.
some smile more than others, but just about everyone seems happy to be there.. maybe we left because we weren't that happy, rather than finding flaws in the religion.. maybe they look happy because they aren't allowed to look sad..

We are not designed(Or whatever) to be always happy, we need downtime and to be miserable from time to time. The fact JW's feel they HAVE to be publicly happy all the time is an indication of their unnatural and unbalanced state of mind.

Will we win EUROVISION this year? May 21st 2008
by Crumpet inthe hopefuls to represent the uk are warbling on the bbc.
disconcerting but amusing to see the audience bastardise the jerry springer call for wogan and now it's terry terry terry.. if we were going to win on attractive luridly dressed girls we're in with a chance - although more cleavage and ass i say.. the second band the revelations are good, but not quite the grand climax i was hoping for.. .
