Yes, "Read God's Word the Bible" sign is still there. I walk over the Brooklyn Bridge into the City everyday and have the (cough) privilge of seeing the sign.

"Read the bible daily"
by veen incorrect me if i'm wrong, but i used to think that on one of the brooklyn bethel buildings there used to be a big sign saying, "read god's word the bible daily", or something along those lines.
well i went there recently and i saw a big sign saying, "read the watchtower and awake!
" not necessarily daily though, that was not specified.

While we are on the topic of elder calling:
I received a letter yesterday from the
I’m still shunned by the member of the congregation even though I’m not disfellowshiped . If they miss me so much they should say something when they see me in the neighborhood. I love to see the expression on there faces when I run into one of them and try to start a conversation, they look like they a ghost and practically run away.
I think I will write them back in a sincere way that I’m confused about a few things; Generation change, blood issue and the U.N. issue among other things. I’m sure it will be another few years before I get an answer.

I have not attended my former congregation in years, but when I did attend in the mid 80's, early nineties we were like a social/religious organization. The various clicks would always have something going on like concerts, plays, and weekend trips to varied places. "Friends" from around the circuit would call us the party animal congregation. The CO eventually discovered we were having too much fun and had the elders present a Local Needs Talk to put a stop to us from making too much merry. At that time our congregations had the highest number of publishers, pioneers, and averaged hours per publisher, magazine placement and meeting attendance in the circuit.
I was talking to my former brother-in-law not too long ago, his wife is still in. He told me that the Sunday meeting averages about 80-90. This is down from about 175- 200 when I was attending.
Now that I think about, the reason we excelled as a congregation was because we enjoyed a life outside of the Kingdom Hall. However, as we all know if you are enjoying life the “Slave” is thinking the elders must be doing something wrong. They much rather see you go around looking miserable.

Street work
by pratt1 in.
maybe this only happens in urban neighborhoods but when i was growing up, many dubs engaged in street work, basically offering the magazines to people on the street as they walked to a destination.. usually it was an area with a lot of foot traffic at a time when many people would travel the area.. did you or people in your congo engage in this and were there any funny stories relating to this practice?

sorry for the double post
I remember Harry Peloyan and his wife Rose from the time I attended Brookyn Center Congregation in the early to late seventies as a kid. My family use to have them and other Bethelites over for meals and gatherings. They always appeared to be nice and easy to get along with. Now that I recall there were several

by PaNiCAtTaCk inupon arriving i ran into lots of old friends and really enjoyed seeing everyone and visiting.
they dont know that im currently struggling with doubts about the organization and they think that im the same old zealous brother.
i couldnt help but feel a sence of guilt visiting with them about our current number of publishers and how many we had pioneering ect.

By the time she got on the plane for home she just couldnt take it anymore she just had to open it right then to see what it was. In the box their was a
little coffin with a note in it that said "WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF AIDS" (the whole audience gasped for air!) The talk was about remaining clean and obedience to the organization.I remember back in the mid 80's a "brother" gave a talk and used a variation of this story. He said a brother met a woman at a bar, they had a few drinks, and then he took her home. The next morning the brother woke up, but the women had already left. When he went into the bathroom the women had wrote on the medicine chest with lipstick; "WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF AIDS.

Do you make active witnesses uncomfortable?
by pratt1 inthis weekend my wife and i visited with another couple, who although they are inactive, they also invited active witinesses to the their home along with us.
we knew most of the people there and they are aware that we are inactive - no big deal.
however there was one brother who did not know that were are inactive.

I run into people from my old congregation just about every day. It's hilarious to see them get that "deer in the headlight look," when I'm walking in their direction. I had one almost get hit by a car trying to avoid me, of course I went over to her to see if she was all right and, she looked at me like she had seen Satan himself. The funny thing is that I'm neither disfellowshiped or have formally disassociate myself.

i was so brainwashed at the time i found a way to justify it.
i think i?ve been repressing my anger about this and now i need to vent.

My oldest brother was giving his first public talk he must have been in his late twenties at the time. He had a slight case of the flu. However, he insisted giving the talk, and I suppose between having a case of the nerves and being weakened by the flu he passed out on the stage in the middle of his talk. Instead of stopping the service, several brothers carried him off the stage and then proceeded to play the song to begin the Watchtower Study and went on with the rest of the meeting.
What pi**ed me off was that they didn?t know why he passed out, my family knew he was fighting the flu, but as far as everyone else was concerned they didn?t know what was wrong with him. I was about thirteen at the time, and I was thinking why don?t they stop the meeting, my brother could be seriously hurt.
Even as the paramedics wheeled him out of the kingdom hall the PO asked them to keep the noise to a minimum. I am glad I don?t have anything to do with this cult any longer.
