then i remember talking to a born-again friend of mine that was having a hard time with her pastor because he told her wearing "pants" and "jewelry" was a "sin" and she would go to hell for that.

my friend said she loved the church that she started going to but she was not going to give up wearing pants or jewelry.

The Born Again Christians I have known all seem to 'love' the idea that God has arranged for people to be burned in a literal fire every day forever and ever. They have no interest in considering the possibility that the "lake of fire" mentioned in Revelation 20:15 may just be one of Revelation's many "signs and symbols" that, in this case, represents everlasting destruction. They are unable to consider even the possibility that everlasting death is an "everlasting punishment." There has never been anything I have ever said that has made a difference to any of the Born Again Christians I have known.

)$100,000,000 So Far...

in the past several months i have received numerous requests for my help in getting money out of bank accounts in africa (usually).

many of them explain that all i have to do is pretend to be the next of kin and they will deposit millions of dollars in my bank account and will then be able to keep from15% to 40% of that money.

the amount of money is always in the millions of dollars.

I figure that if I had responded to all the requests I've received so far, and got all the money they promissed, I'd have about $100,000,000 by now!

Has anyone else received such requests?

Here is one (of two) I received this morning - from a Christian Princess no less...

I have never responded to any of these offers. Actually, this is the first
ones that suggests that I will need to send some money to 'get the
ball rolling.'

If anyone here does respond and ends up with millions of dollars I hope
you will remember who helped you get it!

"Captives of a Concept"

there are as many different ways of writing a book about jehovah's witnesses and their watchtower society as there are those who write them.

captives of a concept is just one of those different ways.

it is not the greatest book that has ever bewn written about jehovah's witnesses or their watchtower society.

It is amazing how tough it is to find all the typos no matter how much proof reading goes on! Apparently even Ray Franz anticipated the possibility that his book might contain some. On page 337 of Crisis of Conscience he said...

"If there are errors [including typos] I will be greatful to anyone who will point such out to me and will do whaever I can to make correction."

(Seems to me that I did find one typo in his book - but I never did point it out to him.)

I feel the same way. One of the nice parts of this Book On Demand technology is that corrections can be made and uploaded to the printer so that all copies of the book from that point on will not contain the same mistake(s). I have already done this couple of times.

I thought I had finally found all the typos. But a couple of days ago I dound another one! In that case it was suppose to read "Watch Tower" but instead read "Watch Tower." Not a big deal, but I fixed it so that the book now reads Watch Tower."

I'm hoping that by the 1,000,000th copy I will have found and fixed all the mistakes!

Again, I too will be grateIf to have any mistakes brought to my attention so that they will be corrected.

First Impressions of the Book "Captives of a Concept"

i wondered what kind of quality the cover would be, and it is absolutely first class!

"First impression: the book looks FANTASTIC! I wondered what kind of quality the cover would be, and it is absolutely FIRST CLASS! Lulu came thrulu! I hope the book finds its way into bookstores, because the cover wil certainly catch the eye.

Second impression: I flipped through it real quickly.This may sound silly, but the book smells great! No kerosine/solvent cent. In fact, the smell is almost fruity, and I mean that in a good way. :)

Third impression: WOW! This is a real PRINTED book! With ink, not toner! It's not a xerographic print. That's a real plus too, because electrostatic toner lacks the permanence of a printed page. The toner can transfer, page-to-page, and it can usually be scraped off with the "fingernail test." The solid black blocks are solid black, not solid dark gray. The halftones are flawless. I had wondered about what technology Lulu is using to output their hardcopy; it's the RIGHT technology, as far as I can see.

In summary, it is a REAL book, and a real FINE book to boot. N.N."

I sure hope N.N. likes what's in the book as much as he likes the physical book itself!
