Very nice post p2. There are so many witnesses that have gone through terribly difficult situations as young people, with some similarities to what you faced and survived. And far too often have families been divided by the bureaucratic old farts in Brooklyn under the guise of perversely interpreted scripture. What responsibility they shoulder for obscenely twisting the words of Jesus about belief in him causing division in households! I remember as a young dub not even caring all that much about the young 'rebellious' ones who were so easily labeled and discarded coldheartedly. < > Its saddens me that I had lost so much of my humanity...being born into a dub family...perhaps it never really developed properly. I'm trying to rectify this now!! I've broken free of the dub thinking much later than you in life. What a realization its been that there is so much to live for!!! One of the first changes I went through was adopting a world-view of unconditional love for all humans. Of course, this doesn't mean trusting everyone or that there are not those who cut off such love by their actions. But, it does mean being open to the whole kaleidescope of the human experience. i have not been part of the org for over 14 years..since i was fifteen.i have accepted the shunning,i have educated myself,and spend many years questioning myself and choicesi have made.the things i have delt with and now belive to be important in my life are things that make me love life and the people who are part of my life!

Its called punishment by god for being so stupid so as to throw your life away for a publishing corporation.
We had a laminated card with the whole year broken down as well. I didn't follow it since I finished 4 mnths early.
Thank whatever powers that may be, reading the bible in that first year is what gave me the push to realize the wts is full of hoo haw and I needed to get out!

the first way is to be completely ignorant.to ignore the fact that the bible is a hopelessly flawed man made document, and all other reasoned argument and evidence that points to the non existence of the christian god.
this strategy basically involves living inside mental cocoon and closing your eyes to any alternative views.
the best way to employ this tactic is to perform a whole lot repetitive and ritualistic action; a whole lot of head bowing and praying etc... etc....you know the drill!.
Though my tendency is to agree with the stance of the person who started this thread, I believe that such a limited choice to label those who identify themselves as Christians leads to the same label being applied to the non-Christian doing the labeling.
Its the close-minded viewpoint of the Christian 'believer' that allows a label of 'ignorant' to be applied. Thus, if a Christian held their beliefs with a twist of agnosticism, then they would be far more credible, less ignorant. There are some here on this site and I appreciate their comments and viewpoints very much.
There are so many variations or combinations of beliefs, including a vast mix of science with them, to discount that the 'truth' of this universe is so much more than just a 'I believe what I can see' outlook.
That being said, I'm definitely in the non-religous, non-Christian, non-faith class.

Well, Ray of Light/Brownboy, thanks for the best wishes of faith and returning to da troof. Thanks but no thanks. I've come to the conclusion I am incapable of 'faith'. Faith is a leap of the mind or heart I cannot trust. 'Feelings' of devotion or 'belief' also don't cut it with me. I prefer whatever appears to be reality I can touch and feel around me.
However, I do think your lighter tone suits you better if you really feel you must preach around here.

No offence gdt, but my problem with this is that I don't trust wts statistics. They've been proven to be intellectually, journalistically, and spiritually dishonest, all in the name of 'Theocratic Warfare'(tm). They are capable of virtuallly any deception for the sake of the cause imo. What I personally see, sans statistics, is many many of my dub friends and family with serious doubts/questions. They may still go to meetings and schlervice, but live what the hardcore dubs would call a double life. This is not because they are 'bad' witnesses, but rather due to their lack of belief its the 'truth'. This religion will not go away easily or quietly. The top dogs are extremely arrogant and would rather take all dubs down with them instead of being honest for once. The organization as a viable religion died in the late 70's when information showing the lack of support for 607bce and the falseness of the statistics 'proving' 1914 was a special date came out. The massive tree has fallen over but like a real tree, will take many decades to be eaten up. boa.....
i understand that bem was involved in a car accident a couple of days ago and she's suffering from some broken ribs and a broken toe and is in a great deal of pain.
