after i left bethel, nothing was ever the same, and my eyes began to be opened and i started seeing more clearly.
I told my mother that I did not want to live forever in paradise because I can't stand the religious zealotry that I see in a lot of the witnesses.
Her retort was that "we will all be moving closer to perfection then and things will all begin to work many times more smoothly than they do now"
I can't win for losing
When I was about ten I was sitting in the B school waiting to give a number two talk and I leaned sideways and let one reverberate on the the metal folding chair I was on. I could hardly make it through my talk with out laughing.
It was one of the highlights of my years as a JW...LOL
i remember several times in the past knocking on doors in the ministry and some bodacious babe would answer the door naked, semi-naked, or extremly suggestively dressed.
how many of you guys/gals has this happened to?.
i think i'm going to answer the door naked the next time some witness sisters show up at my front door....lol i can't wait.

If I said "yes Mom" to my mother repeatedly she would in turn start asking stuff like....
"So then, you will be coming back to meetings?"
"You admit you are the pathetic prodigal son"
My mother is hell on wheels...drives me crazy!

I would love to be able to associate with parents with out religion ever factoring into the equation....
Maybe I should become a barber...my dad always said never discuss politics, religion, or sports with a barber. Anyone ever heard that saying?

I do not wish to be a JW anymore and am trying to tell my mother in the most tactful way that I don't want to talk about religion with her in any way, shape, or form.
Your point about confronting her with the subject is a good idea...I've been skirting the subject as much as possible and that hasn't worked very well.

Ten years later now and I have been away from the JW's for over 6 years and my mother (a devout JW) insists on trying to "encourage" me to return to the JW's and I have told her repeatedly that I'm not interested but I can't seem to get it through her head that I'm not coming back. Without being rude, one anyone care to assist me in coming up with a way to end the persistant badgering I'm getting?
is it because we're a cynical lot?.
maybe because we were the first generation of latch-key kids who learned how to raise ourselves?.
what is it that makes it so 'hard to lie to a gen xer?

as a witness what occupation did/do you hold?.
i was speaking with a friend of mine that is a former witness and we remarked about how many of us have worked in some sort of janitorial work.
