I gave blood today in LA.

from the hlc - not a letter from hq - why not?it is felt that because people don't know what to accept and what to say 'no' to, brothers and sisters are saying 'no' to everythying, and this is just wrong!they want brothers to know that not only is blood sacred, but also life is sacred.
the implication is, that if you say no to fractions, you could be viewing life as not sacred, and that if you do not have a good reason that you can explain, you should not say 'no' to things.
and they are no longer using the term "blood fractions" - they are to be called "blood derivatives", because the substance is so small.whatever happened to leviticus 17:13?

I think I'll go donate some blood instead.

watchtower theology is propped up by proof texts.. if the texts are inspired, the watchtower claims it is empowered to reveal the meaning.. but--consider how flimsy, inauthentic and unprovable the foundation of this teaching really is.. .
consider the difference (if any) in meaning between these two renderings.. .
1.all scripture is inspired by god and useful for teaching, reproving and setting things straight.. .
Paul’s comments would exclude the inspiration of the NT entirely. If Christians would be "fully competent" with the existing inspired scriptures composed up to that time, then any additional writing, including any by Paul himself, would be unnecessary.
what was it like to live in the 1950's 1960's and early 70's as a jehovah witness.when they started to push the 1975 date..
I have given up on the idea that any kind of "proof" is going to be effective with so many of those still "in". It's not there's a lack of info/evidence. They are so invested in their beliefs, and for some like my folks - they are responsible for so many either becoming JWs or reinforcing false beliefs - it simply is too much for them to fathom that they are part of the deceit.

My parents were baptized in '70 and '71 in the Los Angeles area (remember when we had the Lamert theater?). I was 9 years old in 1975. I remember my mom used to say thet she was glad she'd "never be forty in this system of things." Now she's in her 70s and her youngest son is 43!
The guy that studied with my dad said "if the end doesn't come in 1975 you can throw the bible in the fireplace!"
Well, they're still "in". And there is no way I can reason them out of their self imposed blindness.
bahbuttons said: another time i accidently told a kid god bless you in the kh and you'd think i just said every swear word known to man with the looks i got from everyone....another embaressing moment that was.............fond memories eh,lolquoteendquoteeend.
th is an interesting point.
apostates always bang on about watchtower double speak and the way the society twists words, investing them with mind-control triggers but rarely do we hear about censorship by omission, the words jw's can't speak.
Absent from JW vocabulary:
"Grace"
"Saved"
Try saying to your JW family that you have a relationship with "Christ."
this is the address where mary rutherford lived up to 1962, the year she died.. what i want to know is who paid for this upscale residence?.
or was it her son malcolm?
or did the watchtower?.
Leolaia,
OK. I actually go right by the Eastlake house neighborhood on my way home. I'm going to check it out. I'd also like to see the other houses too. One of the first things I did when I left the org was find Beth Sarim. I don't know what the obsession is. I just wanted to put my hands on something tangible that is so obviously ridiculous. Beth Sarim provided that.
At Beth Sarim I found the concrete crypt that I believe was intended for Rutherford to be buried in. I actually walked in. I couldn't resist writing on the wall "no Joe."
Thanks for all the info.

tensyearsafter,
John is still an elder in the Bay Congregation (Santa Monica). He is a very dear man with a lot of heart. He was the CO when my parents were new JWs and my brother and I were just kids. He says that we used to crawl all over him because he was so short!
He used to defend the youth when their parents were overly strict. There are some good memories there.
