Why not look at it as an act of love, rather than an annoyance?

Has the Internet Changed the Way You Watch Movies?
by TD inmaybe my family is just wierd, but it's gotten to the point where someone has a laptop open almost every time we watch a movie.. typical example --- we watched cinderella man the other night..... "who's that playing braddock's manager?
"just a second...oh that's paul giamatti; you know, he was "miles" in sideways..." <snicker>.
"max baer...why does that name sound so familiar?".

What were the reasons you would say it was "the truth"?
by DannyBloem injust a question, because i'm trying to find out how to bring up good arguments to people still in the borg.... a) what were the reasons when you were (or are) still a jw that you would say that "you were in the truth"?.
b) and what would you say now, that were the reasons that you thought it was the troof?.
a) 1) the prophecies come truth.

When I first learned about the hope of living on paradise earth forever, "the meek shall inherit the earth", "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as in heaven" etc. it made sense and was supported by the scriptures. It was like a glove that fit. The second thing that appealed to me was the political neutrality. I was a first generation immigrant. During WW11 we had Lutheran relatives from Chicago fighting Lutheran relatives in Germany. I knew God had to be disgusted with this behavior between Christians. Going along with the second point. I believe that God would want all people to know his purposes. "God is not partial". Preaching to people of all the nations is something he would want and would accomplish. After all man was never able to destroy the Bible no matter how hard they try! Those are the reasons I believe I had learned Bible truths. It saddens me that the politics of religion have hurt so many of us. What it doesn't change is "the good news of the Kingdom"! That hope comes from God, not man.

Did you ever preach door to door on a Christmas day?
by JH in.
i don't know if it's only our congregation or every congregation was the same, but no door to door was organized on christmas day.
that was the only day of the year that the jw's in our area wouldn't go pest people.. wonder why?

I enjoyed going out in service Xmas day--but never before 11:00 A.M. I always felt it's a great day to talk about Jesus and what his life meant for us. I would never go out on New Years day. I felt that was rude and invasive. Let our neighbors have an opportunity to sleep in after partying late.

my mother
by Ellie ini would like to write a thread to tell you all about my mother, however it would be very long and complicated and deeply personal, exploring feelings that i don't even know if i have.
but basically, she told me the other day that shes very ill, she needs an operation but the doc has said she wouldn't survive it, this has made me feel so guilty and terribly sad.. what i'd like to ask you guys though is, do you think a child can be so naughty that as an adult its mother should continue to judge, and chastise in public?.
i understand that you don't know the full story, even i don't know the full story but i'd appreciate any comments you have to offer.

I believe that your mother is being herself. Unless we work hard to understand ourselves and with this awareness work at making changes nothing will change. Your mother personality causes her to treat you the same way she treated you as a child.

Hi: I am a bit nervous making a reply. I find it a bit challenging to gather my thoughts and express them in the written forum, but her goes! I have been coming to this site for years. I can so identify with the experiences and feeling of many. I am semi-active witness. The many experiences have resulted in my being a fringe witness. I have felt anger and hate toward the organization at different times, however I still find in general it is were my faith still lies. I am just very cautious and not naive. People aren't perfect so no organization can be. I feel a bond with most of the posters here because most of us have come from the same place. You don't commit thousands and thousands of hours to something that you don't believe in. This does not excuse the behavior or idiosyncrasies of most of the members, including many of us. I still feel in the balance, the teaching we learned from "the bible" makes sense and are worth believing. After all we all are going to believe something as become evident from the postings. So I drove in today after years to say I appreciate the balance defd provides and there many be many more who feel the same.
