Okay thanks for the giggles. I was up half the night myself, but fortunately got to go back to bed. I will now avoid earrings, toddlers, peanut butter and dog food.

Astrology, the Zodiac, etc............
by Sunnygal41 ini know that this topic will be a draw to those who are truly interested in this subject, and for those who seem to feel that it is their "duty" to debunk untruth and myth, etc.
in their sphere of life.
let it so be stated that whoever is truly interested in this subject, and in having a "chart" done, etc.

Hi Terri! This thread has been really helpful to me thus far. I'm looking for a bit more information and am not quite sure where to start...and am hoping you might have some direction.
I have always been interested in astrology. I had just taken a continuing ed course and had my natal chart done when I started studying with JWs about 13 years ago...needless to say, I ended up throwing it out and stopped looking into it.
Well, upon DAing myself this year, the first thing I did was buy the Complete Idiots Guide to Astrology. I've gone to the free chart site (www.astro.com) you posted and now have my chart. I'm slowly trying to piece it together using that book. So far, things are pretty much on track. I'm a Leo with Scorpio rising, my signature is an even mix of Leo and Sagittarius (although I trend toward Leo more strongly by everything I've read).
I'm having problems with aspects. The site you posted has more symbols than the CIG book does. Do you know of a website or guide that gives a clearer picture of what symbols are which and what they mean (i.e. sextiles, conjuncts, squares)? There's a symbol that looks like a "Q," another like a slanted "L," and several others that I can't figure out.
I also was wondering about planetary relationships...the book only gave a basic rundown of "slower planets influence faster ones" and gave a couple of examples like "sun conjunct saturn means *blah*". Is there anywhere you'd suggest to resource more of this? Or am I heading into areas where I'd need more professional help?
One last question I was confused about, do you have any idea what it means when there are no planetary influences in a house? Does that mean that the ruling sign controls the house with it's traits, etc.? And what if a house is split between ruling signs?
Any direction/help you can give me is MUCH appreciated. :) I suspect it might be time to investigate professional help, but the more I can learn beforehand would fulfill my need to challenge myself. :)
Thanks!

Why I don't discuss Scripture or doctrine
by Maverick inmy fathers mother was a jw all of her life and she die two years ago at the age of 97. my mother and father divorced when i was three and my mother remarried when i was 5. turns out my mother and grandmother hated each other.
so my mother raised us kids religion free.
she figured we could work out the god issues on our own.

Hey Maverick, I'm in basically the same boat as you on religion/Scripture. I really only know what JWs taught and like you, can't really trust any of it now. I decided that one day I *might* go and do some research, but not until enough of the WTS message has faded for me to be sure I can be objective about studying/reading the Bible.
I think it's okay to admit that you don't have the answers, or that you don't even want the answers (well maybe because that's where I am, and think I'm okay too...hehe). And living your life with a goal to making the world a better place is admirable.
Two thumbs up from me! (FWIW)

Turn away from these wicked ways!
by Proud Witness inwell as you would have guessed from my name, i am a proud witness and i feel obliged to preach to you about the promises that our wonderful creator, jehovah god, has promised each and every one of us, of any race or background.
i know that you already know what he has told us through his word, but i am curious to wonder why you have chosen to jump off the narrow road which leads to everlasting life.
is it because you have had a bad experience in god's organization?

I'm also curious about one other thing. Out of all the things Lady Lee posted on, you chose to ignore everything but one minor fact/detail.
Do you have no human compassion for the person that has been hurt? Not one single word of empathy or shock at how badly she has been treated? I wanted to cry as I was reading all the things she went through. Are you compelled to reach out to her in her pain as strongly as you are compelled to preach to wicked sinners their (our?) impending destruction at the hands of a vengeful god?
I'm surprised, since you are supposed to show love for your fellow man. How did Jesus treat the Samaritans...the apostates of his day? I think you know a couple of those parables.

*yawn*
Turn away from these wicked ways and this bad lifestyle you are leading.
Well, if you mean the coffee I just had for breakfast, you're certainly right. I mean, I should eat a hearty breakfast in the morning. It's the best for weight loss and making myself feel better throughout the day.
Or did you mean when I played with my cats for about 1/2 hour, chasing them and finding things to throw for them to catch. Yes, certainly a wicked and twisted lifestyle there.
Okay since you have so much time to do all these good works, I suggest, no I challenge, you to do something. Go to your elder body and tell them where you've been preaching. Tell them your screen name. Send a letter off to the GB at the WTS too, letting them know your screen name and real name and congregation. Let us know what happens. Really. I'm very very interested in your salvation. Letting them know might just get you the freedom you need.

Well. I like how for stating my opinion that I'm now "uptight." Thanks for that (talk about labelling!). I also appreciate that since I'm "new" I must not be able to correctly assess what I read and have an open and honest opinion on it. I might as well take anything I have to say and stick it right in my bottom, right?
Scooby, I don't know you. I don't have you in a box or labelled. And just like any other post that comes along on here, when you post you open yourself up to different impressions and comments on those. I stated in my first post WHY I thought it was inappropriate and hurtful. Note that I acknowledged that you might be making a joke, or pushing buttons etc. My comment was that I *still* didn't appreciate the humor, on what can be a sensitive subject for some, possibly many that come here. And because it was in the subject it was a little more "in your face" than some of the other things that get posted. Maybe the "regulars" get you, or maybe I'm an idiot. Regardless, the end result was that you indicated that I didn't have to read it, and that's true. I stated that since it was here, I could comment on it with my opinion and I did.
You don't have to agree with my assessment, you don't even have to like it. But like you said, isn't it great to have the freedom to do so? Well, until everyone takes a stab at your character for having an opinion. Oops, I must be being uptight there again. Maybe I'll just go. Have a nice day.

Please don't be so patronising Scooby. I do understand irony, as well as having been raised around many many British and anglo influences. I don't think this is a cultural thing.
And you seem to have missed my point entirely. For the sake of your irony, you put something in a subject line in a place where it could be hurtful to many. And I made comment to it. Isn't it wonderful that I can do that?

You know, I for one do not appreciate this kind of post. As a group, JWs have done a lot to be ashamed of, whether you're talking GB or the sanctimonious elders or the rank and file that show less concern for humans than most do for squishing a bug. There ARE some individuals who are JW and ARE lovely and cuddly people, probably more than I estimate. But there are a LOT of people here who have been damaged by the group on the whole, and by individuals they were close to, through shunning or abuse. I think it's rather hurtful of you to post this, looking for a rise out of the group, or pushing buttons, or trying to be funny (or whatever your motive is). It trivializes the damage done to people and really, for what reason?
