Lawrence...
If you don't know about the issue of crack use in Canada... I can only encourage you to get your head out of the sand. You say you are in Ontario... then open your eyes!
Durham Ontario Police (website: http://www.police.durham.on.ca/internet_explorer/whatsnew/whatsnew_view.asp?ID=1978 )
"Since the mid 1990?s, the city of Vancouver has experienced an epidemic of cocaine-related deaths exceeding that of Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle.
In Toronto, cocaine-related deaths tend to involve the use of other drugs as well, including heroin. On average, approximately 27 people die in cocaine-related deaths in Toronto each year.
In 2000, crack was second only to marihuana in drug seizures by Toronto police. The use of crack is more prevalent among street youth than adults, and it has been linked to violence, as users tend to become victimized, witness violence or harm others as a result of their involvement with crack cocaine. "
Per http://www.usdoj.gov/ndic/pubs3/3138/cocaine.htm
"In February 2001 the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) seized more than 2,500 kilograms of cocaine from a Canada-flagged tuna trawler transiting the Strait of Juan de Fuca off the coast of Washington. The cocaine was concealed in 101 bales, each weighing more than 20 kilograms. The bales were labeled azucar, the Spanish word for sugar."
The Canadian Center on Substance Abuse (CCSA) has something to say on this too: http://www.ccsa.ca/index.asp?ID=73&menu=&page=97&full=yes
"All available reports indicate that fewer than 5% of Grade 7-12 students have used cocaine in the past year (and fewer still report use of crack). However, rates increase through the high school years (e.g., 7% of Grade 11 students in Ontario report past-year use of cocaine). The prevalence of crack and cocaine use by street youth in various cities is much higher than student use, having been estimated at 31% for both crack and cocaine in Toronto (1992), 20% and 33%, respectively, in Halifax (1993), and 85% for cocaine in Vancouver (1994)."
So........HOW IS CANADA DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE??... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,128483,00.html
Canada is coping with crack cocaine ( search ) use in a uniquely Canadian way of doing things. Some folks in Vancouver have demanded that the government fund crack houses.
Perhaps I should repeat that: Health Canada, the Canadian government?s health system, is being asked to open smoking rooms for crack addicts.
A Vancouver advocacy organization called The Rock Users Group claims that the crack houses are needed to make the streets safe for crack addicts. Says the leader of the group: ?Right now, on the street, if you?re carrying a pipe and you?re not smoking it, you get roughed up by the police. That shouldn?t happen.?
The government-run crack houses would provide a safe place to toke up and would distribute little crack kits to crack addicts that would include a pipe, five brass screens, two new mouthpieces, condoms and printed material on "safe" smoking techniques.
Canada already funds places where heroin addicts can shoot up. One so-called "safe-injection site" received a grant of $1.5 million from Health Canada and another $3.2 million from the provincial government.
The thinking is, if it?s good enough for smack addicts, why not a safe house for crack addicts? Says heroin addict Dean Wilson, "I think we should give the same courtesy to people who smoke rock [cocaine] as we did with the safe injection site."
Now there is my tax dollars hard at work!!
Dude......
... You couldn't PAY ME ENOUGH... to move back to Canada! It's messed UP!!!!

??!!
I'm a Canadian too... but I am a heck of a lot happier living in the USA! In fact... I'm only a few months away from getting my US citizenship.
Here's why:
I am CERTAIN that this message is going to prompt some vehemently angry replys from my Canadian friends. Please understand: I am Canadian!!! I love YOU guys... BUT I am totally unimpressed with the country's society and politics. Please don't take it personal.
I have a question for you Canadians: If you were given an easy opportunity, would YOU immigrate to the USA?
If you find my comments offensive, you may find this website to be of interest: www.unitednorthamerica.org Just watch the introductory animation - you will see I am not alone in this opinion. For those of you who believe Canada has a bright future as an independant country... read this: "Finally, The End of Canada". http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=2383

a little disclaimer first, let me admit right up front i think this is a little on the weird side.
i was watching a news program, maybe 48 hours or one of those like it, sometime last week.
and it talked about how there is a whole group of supposed experts who say that jesus christ was married.
Netty: sounds like a Davinci Code read to me..............I thought it was a fascinating book. and Robdar is correct: from the ages of 13-29, Jesus life is "left out"....Not all things are included in the Bible...hmmmm...wondering "why again"???
It is certainly worth pondering. And how could a "perfect man".......not lust after a woman????????? This I have to have the answer to.

anyone read this book?
what's you're reaction, if any, to the basic premis of the book (that the holy grail is ... oops - i don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it yet).
the author takes a ficticious incident and weaves some little-known yet interesting and provacative facts throughout his story.
I have read The DaVinci Code about 4 months ago - and loved it.
Last night - I just finished reading Dan Brown's other book Angels and Demons.
Both books are interesting but I didn't like Angels and Demons nearly as much as the DaVinci Code. Angels and Demons was difficult for me to get through. It just dragged on and on and on! (War and Peace anyone?!) Drove me nuts! It got too predictable within the first 1/3 of the book. I most enjoyed the discussion on anitmatter as much as the religious implications.
The one thing that I liked about both books though was the fact that 'pagans' had a great influence on Christianity as we see it today. Hell, even the Greek canon as we see it today was compiled by a pagan! (Cornelius of the 4th century!)
And WE (!!) accept this censored collection of books as a complete record of the life of Jesus??! How naive!!
Of course, in defense of the Scriptural accuracy within our present Bible canon, a Dub will say that Jah has used people outside his circle of followers to accomplish his purpose.
Pu.... lease!!!!
This is God's inspired writings to man! You think a pagan politician that is trying to divert wars between pagans and Christians is going to be objective enough to accurately compile only the writings that are truly 'inspired'? He was trying to please both the pagans AND the Christians with this literature! That just can't be accurate. He was emotionally invested into the results of the work!
Anyways... that is one of the things that I really liked about the books. It was worth the read!

jeeezzz....
This is just obvious, everyone!
On the 22nd, Brownboy is going to 'kill' his handle (because he burned himself through his poor entry into this website. He doesn't have any friends here because of that!), and he is going to log back on under a different pseudo!
For the love of GOD!! You would think that our exposure to the WBTS would have taught us to see through thin veils of deception.
Watch for it everyone: There will be a new personality on the board soon (if he hasn't already posted under his new name.
Brownboy is being retired for a new name! But he AIN'T leavin!

"... a FORMAL welcome??!! ... "
I would be flattered - except that the individual that welcomed me to this board (Puternut), gave me such a gracious welcome, that I struggle with an appropriate reply!
To have the honor of introduction by an individual who:
I'm not worthy of Puternut's introduction...
I'm blushing!!!
My story to follow soon. I will draft it and post it in a new thread.
Thanks for the welcome! - and on a side note.... thanks to ALL OF YOU - for helping my lovely wife, Codeblue through this difficult healing process resulting from betrayal by the WBTS.
