I pay $12 for a haircut at the local place (they do an amazing job every time), and round it to an even $15 with tip. I guess thats 25%.

okay... i may act like a hick from a small-town... but... i'm curious about something.. what is the 'proper' amount that one is supposed to 'tip' the gal at the salon.
the one whut cuts the hair.. i've never really had a good idea... and i know that i look like a dufus... fumbling and mumbling... as i hand a dollar or two to the gal.. now... if i'm supposed to be giving something like $5.00... forget it!
i usually hand over 1 or 2 dollars - depending on how well i feel that they did.

whilst i was getting ready for work a couple of days ago, the jackass movie was on tv.
i sat and watched for a while, as they did everything from run around japan in panda suits, to shoot bottle rockets out of their buttholes whilst the rocket was tied to another guys weiner.. and then came the paper cut scene.
this is where one of the guys sits in a chair, and lets the others give him paper cuts between his toes, fingers, and even across his lips.
Lehaa: Strange, isn't it... Good luck on your vet thing though!
Gummer: Ohhh, don't forget the bone saws! That kind of thing just doesn't seem to bother me either though... after all, it's all meat. Nothing different from the meat on your burger or the kidney in your steak and kidney pie (mmmm, British food). The only difference is that in the ops, you can see the heart beating, blood being pumped, spurting when they hit a "gusher"... lol... vomit yet?
I have unfortunately never seen CSI, though it looks like something I'd enjoy. I do enjoy the forensics shows about old cases and the ways they were solved. I would absolutely love to meet the amazing Dr. Michael Baden. I'm sure he'd have some stories they can't even tell on TV!
Shotgun: You may have hit the nail on the head mate... I also thought of this, and it very well could be the answer. I have suffered my share of paper cuts in my life, though strangely, I have never been beheaded. You'd think my brain would at least make the connection "Being beheaded = Papercut x 1000" though...

I had seen this before, and it literally made me want to vomit. My stomach was turning before they even did anything, so I switched the channel until they were done.
Now here is where it gets weird. I have seen the beheading videos, I would like to become a forensic pathologist one day, and so in my studies I often have to see some rather disturbing photos of bodies in various degrees of decomposition / dismemberment etc. Yet none of this has any effect on me. Not even a twitch.
I can see a man having his head hacked off and not be disturbed, but even thinking about watching someone get a paper cut has me reeling.
It was my wife (Serenity) that initially pointed this out to me, and at first I laughed it off, but now it really has me wondering. Why do I have this disconnection when it comes to death?
Anyone had similar experiences / feelings?

i've dabbled in this on & off for the past 15 or 20 years.
and i've found that many of the central concepts of deism are well aligned with my own thinking on the nature of the supreme being.
webster's defines a deist as "one who believes in the existence of a god or supreme being but denies revealed religion, basing his belief on the light of nature and reason.
Interesting... I think if I hadn't found my own path to "connection" to the Supreme One, I would probably have been a Deist. I see and feel the Divine in everything, but I do not believe religion (in itself) does not hold the key to this being.

if you could go back & re-live one day in your life ... which day would you choose, and why?
I wouldn't change a single day of my life, as it would change who I am today. Every bad thing that has happened to me has had a good side to it. Every cloud has a silver lining, no matter how thin.
Live life as best you can from this day forward. After all, the only day we can seize (Carpe Diem) is today...

well, i took her out yesterday.
after many tweaks / repairs etc.
she made her maiden flight from the ground!.
Elsewhere.. yup, I'm heading to the hobby store to get what I need today
Undecided: The plans for this one (Piper Cub) called for a .49 - .70 engine, so I went with a middle of the line .60 2-stroke also. I think when I hit the hobby store I will pick up another kit or something. Any easily built recommendations?
HappyDad: The reason I am getting into R/C is because of my love for aviation too. Unfortunately I do not have enough money for lessons right now so I am going to try to experience the joys of flying through my R/C plane for now (purchasing a 2-mile range video tx+rx kit). I do have the Jeppesen private pilots manual, and own the latest and greatest Microsoft Flight Sim 2004, with a flight yoke and rudder pedal set. Some day.... some day.......
Lehaa: You could take it up for yourself, it's great fun for anyone!

Well, I took her out yesterday. After many tweaks / repairs etc. she made her maiden flight from the ground!
After adjusting the tail stabilizers, the aileron linkages, and removing the tail wheel, I decided to take it out and see what came of it. We primed her engine, hooked the propeller to the spring starter, leaned the mixture a little, and she was purring.
Tyler was holding on to it to make sure it didnt fly off, I stood back, upped the throttle, and told him to let go. It went across the parking lot beautifully, then after about a 20 foot takeoff run, she went airborne!!! 6 feet into the air she soared... lol
Unfortunately the joy was short-lived, as approximately 3 seconds into the flight, the prop somehow got caught up with the spring starter (not my fault!), and the jolt of the engine suddenly stopping threw the plane into a hard right bank, 1 second later, the right wingtip hit the ground and it was obvious from the state of the spring starter and prop that the flying day was over. I still went home with a smile on my face though... something I had built from scratch actually made it off the ground!!! Beautiful!
