  Robdar, I agree, the extra threads were unnecessary, but the thread has now degraded into nothing but mudslinging by those that disagree with Frankie. This is no longer a productive discussion.

  Now I remember why discussion boards can be so infuriating. I have absolutely no problem with people disagreeing with me, but when they decide to call me crazy and "absurd" for my beliefs, rather than having a civil discussion about the topic at hand is when I step back. I feel no need to prove anything to anyone, and thus I am not vested at all in continuing this discussion.

  Essie.. a beautiful thought from your kid, to be sure...

  In that period between lives where we make the choice as to what life we live is actually made by your higher self. Down here in the mortal coil, pain is so real to us. In fact, we often focus on the pain in life, rather than the lessons taught (even when the person giving the "lesson in pain" does not intend to do us any good).

  When we are free from that pain, and free from the misconception that the pain is real and eternal, (i.e. when our ego is gone, and all that is left is the "higher self") we can see life simply for the things we have learned, no matter how painful. In this way, we can choose a life that will teach us the lessons that we feel we need.

  I hope it doesn't sound like I am belittling the problems you had in childhood, as I totally understand (especially in my own life right now) just how real pain is to us in this world.

  As you may have seen in my post, I relate to your quandary. The fact that this could well be due to the "collective unconscious" is certainly a possibility.

  I err on the side of reincarnation though for a number of reasons. First and foremost, these children generally have these memories of one very specific life, and the vast majority of the time, this life is in no way related to their current persona. I don't believe I have read a single account where a child has had access to the memories of more than one verifiable life. It would seem that if the child were able to access the collective unconscious so readily and with such clarity for one life, it would be a simple thing for them to recall events of any life, past or present.

  Also, again, I feel that reincarnation is very possible. In fact, many of those that have had Near Death Experiences (such as myself) and/or have been regressed or progressed with hypnotism to a time between their lives, relate that they undergo a life-review after passing away, and after some time to "rest" in the ether, they are afforded the option to come back to the mortal coil and start it all over again, for the purpose of learning more.

  These experiences abound, and interestingly, the culture and religion the person is part of has very little effect on this post-life process. This happens all around the world, and often, only small details change from belief-system to belief system. For instance, usually NDEers report being greeted by a different spirit when they live in the Western world than the East.

  Again, this is my personal feeling on the subject after studying the issue quite fully. Of course, there is also the chance that some of these children are tapping the collective, and some really are recalling previous incarnations.

  life was getting me down, and a few recent bombshells dropped on me were taking me further into the ground.

  i asked myself how i could possibly let this happen to my life, how i could find myself in this position..

  Thanks for all your replies, you beautiful people. ;)

  Seems most are agreed that the "my life is not my own" line is erroneous. I'm not quite sure what to do with this. Apparently it was something that I needed to tell myself / hear, at least in that moment. I may decide to change it, as on the surface, it would seem to indicate I am powerless in my own life.

  It is definitely something to ponder on. Maybe further meditation will help me realize just what is meant by this phrase. Obviously, if anyone else decides to use this, don't hesitate to change it as you see fit and maybe even post your own. :)

  Frankie...

  Your suggestion makes sense also. We often hear about discorporate spirits coming back to the material realm to have a message given to loved ones, and tie up "unfinished business". Maybe this is another way to do so.
