On the fading of 1914 ............
by TheOldHippie inforgetful as i am, i just forgot the title of the new brochure issued at this summer's conventions, but it is something like "keep on the watch", and it deals with the imminent return of christ, the signs of our times, and the need for being on the watch, being prepared for the "any day now" return.. the signs of our times are mentioned, but not earthquakes, so they are "out" again, it seems.
but, the first pages make out the basis for the belief in our days being the last ones, the final ones, and 607 is mentioned, 539 and 537 - but not 1914, not the "seven times" or "2520 years".. do you remember 1995, when the "generation change" came?
in summer, the "knowledge" book was issued, and it also dealt with the signs etc., but for the first time, there was no mention of the then "present truth" that some alive in 1914 would still be alive and witness the return.

ezekiel3,
One thing that was noticibly absent during the DC part 4:15 Walking in the Path of Increasing Light was, during the "laundry list" of doctrinal changes, no mention was made of the 1995 "generation" issue.
Of course they found time to mention the generation issue in a different talk...
Ironic, isn't it?

the mole,
It goes as the proverb states: " Expectation postponed is making the heart sick." (Proverbs 13:12, NWT)
it was told to us in our last meeting with the elders that there are so few of the anointed that the spirtual food and caring of the sheep that the burden will fall on those with the earthly hope...that was in 2002...
Yes, they have been saying that for years... remember the articles abouth the Nethinim in the early 90's?
my old friend coming back from bethel have said that some young ones were being incouraged to partake of the meal...
Could you comment on this a little further? Who was encouraging the young people to partake?

JW SINGLES site shut down due to GUILT!
by Survivor2004 inhi folks.. i have been lurking on and off for about 2 years now and before i did post a couple threads under my old alias but it wont accept it for some reason so i had to re-join.. anyway there was a singles site called jwsingles.net by a nice fellow who wanted to help other lonely jw single folks meet but he is about to shut it down despite some success stories which i guess makes the elders upset.. i had joined two years ago and was on the mailing list(i,ve been inactive for about 5 years now)thats the short version, anyway,i got this e-mail from him the other day and it really infuriated me because he did nothing wrong but again the organization wants to control every aspect of their lives, including not letting jw,s put up harmless websites for singles to meet.after all in many many congregations there is a severe shortage of available singles right?and,if they dont even want you to look for a mate in their own organization (on the net) then they will look outside of the organization but i guess they are too dense to understand that.. his letter wreaks of guilt and he hangs his head in shame at congregations.i fail to see how he has stumbled others here.its none of others business what adult jw,s want to meet someone.. i understand the heartache of being all alone for many many years with no one and no suitable mates there as they were too stuffy and i felt like i could never match up no matter how hard i tried.i shed too many tears to count as im sure many here have as well.. anyway here is the e-mail.. greetings friends.. this will most likely be the last message you recieve from jw singles.net.. the site has been running for several years now with its main goal to help those of like faith find and if they wish contact each other.we,ve met that goal with several success stories.im very glad to say that an old friend of mine from a congregation in maryland met a wonderful sister from california.after months of phone calls and trips and bible studies over the phone, they were married.both are extremely happy with their new mates.. there are other stories the friends have shared when asking to have their profiles removed.. however i cannot continue to justify the site against the councel of the wbt society.i am tired of sinking in my seat at assemblies and conventions when they mention websites to avoid.it is also not my place to second guess the faithful and discreet salve and the connection they have with jehovahs spirit in guiding the organization in these last days.while i believe that with proper theocratic guidelines this site can be used ,like many have demonstrated to a good cause,i will not possibly stumble my brothers and sisters.. i have thought of selling the site to help recoup the expenses i incurred while developing and running the site ,but again i dont want the responsibility of passing it off to someone else, possibly a wordly company or person.. after the last paying members subscription has run out,i will open the full site with access to every member .this will be the last chance to try and contact some of the 2000 members we have.right now im targeting september as the final month the site will run.our information on the site will be deleted as the database of users is erased.if you care to make a donation of any size while the site is still open to everyone our paypal address is _________ or contact me for a mailing address.. thanks to all those who have tried to help and build the idea i had into a functioning and useful program.i wish you all well and continued strenght in this time of the end.all of the friends are tired and are struggling just to make it to meetings instead of staying home with a headache or working a little late.be upbuilding to each other ,help to show love amongst ourselves and continue to walk with god until the end.. agape.

Survivor,
I just read your post:
When I think that I gave up TWO not one chance at happiness because of the org I can scream. I had two worldy options for marriage when I was a JW(no one asked me out in 7 years, not even a date)
Hang around here on the Board. Some people will completely relate to your experience. Talk about a dysfunctional religion!!
BTW: Your screen name is very fitting.

Randy, from Free Minds, recently wrote a piece on this subject:
http://www.freeminds.org/dating_and_singles.htm
The Watchtower Society, through personal e-mailing and sometimes by the elders, gives "loving counsel" to brothers who create sites such as this one (which have JW-related content) to shut them down. This is true since the early beginnings of Internet.

1914 is definitely being put on the back burner.
Nevertheless, for the sake of accuracy, it is good to bring up the fact that the new idiotic, cut-and-paste brochure Keep on the Watch! , does indeed mention 1914, and only once, in a very shy way, right after citing Matt 24-Luke 21 and alluding to wars, food shortages and earthquakes. (Page 6, second paragraph)
In fact, after the generation change, the Watchtower began to get a bit ashamed of their pet 1914 date. Take a look at this graph:
The change is even more graphic in the Awake magazine, specially due to the change in the masthead:
(Based upon the 2001 Watchtower Library CD-ROM)
So after the now "fatidic" year of 1995 things were not simply the same. 1914, though still being important, is less emphasized.
Actually, what I believe is that, like in various other issues, Watchtower higher-ups are divided about how much emphasis should be put upon that date, mirroring what happened during the late seventies when the 1914 issue was brought up for discussion within the Governing Body. (See Crisis of Conscience for details) Some expressed doubts about it, others said that 'we should continue to stress the date'.
Something similar seems to take place in recent years. More liberal ones (like some in the Writing Dept.) would like to slowly downgrade the importance of 1914, mimicking what happened to the Second Adventists and their pet date (they still believe something important happened in the 19th century but the issue is seldom brought up in Adventist circles). Meanwhile, others feel they shouldn't display any hesitation on that matter, as reflected in books like Isaiah's Prophecy I and II, where the dates of 1914, 1918 and 1919 are mentioned 136 times altogether. (Even hardcore dubs would while studying those books.)
In other words, we never know what they have in mind. Time will tell.
