Is it just me or has this board exploded with activity?
I agree 100%. I barely can keep up with so much stuff. Potentially cool topics get buried quickly. We start too many threads. Only one topic a day per user would be enough.

at our service meeting the conductor of "more emphasis on the bible!

) routinely asked the questions, comments were read from the paragraph and there was a rediculous emphasis on the scriptures cited, even to the point that wt references were given that had nothing to do with the subject.
Crumpet,
See the March KM - George Benson CD thread.
over the past 70 years a number of scholars have speculated that the gospel mark was witten as liturgical drama meant to be acted out.
this has gained greater acceptance in recent years for good reasons.
(the book of matt likewise has elements that seem to lend to this use.
BTW, I like your avatar...what does it represent? (Hard of hearing? )
I've been asking myself the same question.
first page... this book issued to________________ date___________ place of baptism____________ date___________.

Thanks for the update! It's funny how they try to deal with their own cognitive dissonance.
there was a rediculous emphasis on the scriptures cited, even to the point that WT references were given that had nothing to do with the subject.
What were these WT references all about?

john wrote that many put faith in jesus, but because of being afraid of getting expelled from the synagogue, they wouldn't confess him.. john 12: 42. it was a powerful weapon back then, and it's still used today.
even when some want to stop being a witness, they're lumped in with ones who are unrepentant sinners, and expelled from the congregation.. wouldn't the pharisees be proud of many of the things done in the organization today?.
The parallel is perfect.
Jesus may have alluded to the same Jewish "organizational procedure" when he said:
Blessed are you when men hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. (Luke 6:22)
Reminds the WT's DF modus operandi a lot, doesn't it?

tried to find it today at a christian bookstore.
also on amazon.com - no success.
heroes and villains for the braindead.
in a typical action movie, suspense movie or western, there are only heroes and villains.
the heroes can do nothing but good and the villains can do nothing but bad.
Great post, Fark! The dubs have deadened their ability to see shades of gray in between black and white, let alone a million other colors.
Pole,
if the average wordly guy is a villain for just refusing to become a witless, then who are apostates in this movie scenario?
According to Farkel's "Handy JW 'Apostate' Glossary,"
"Apostate" - the most evil word in the JW lexicon. Worse than Satan, worse than demons. Say the word, and watch real TERROR well up in the eyes of a JW. (See "Internet")
"Demons" - real SCARY beings. They just can't wait to "get in" to your body and mess you up. A group of bad, bad, spirit entities which somehow love to inhabit used clothing, furniture, lawn chairs, and mostly, apostates, to name a few. They are frequently seen lurking around garage sales, and antique shops.
"Satan" - a token bad guy. Doesn't scare anyone, anymore. But "demons" do.
"Jehovah" - scares JWS more than apostates, demons, and Satan put together. Scares JWs more than any Circuit Overseer ever could, for that matter, or even your typical Elder. Current residence is in, or near the Pleiades Star System."Jehover" - the correct pronunciation of the Divine Name in Israel's Southern and poorer districts.
"Satan Inspired" - to JWs: "them"
"Internet" - hiding out place for demons and apostates.
