Pete came to our local elementary school here in northern Wisconsin a year ago to give a program. He used his music as a teaching tool and involved the kids within his program. He was passionate about sharing his ideas through his music, especially with children. He was a big hit. Rest in peace, Pete.

Talking with a nonbeliever...
by suavojr inin my search for the truth and the burning desire to become free from all forms of dogma and wishful thinking.
i have approached my first crossroads in my life, should i continue to believe in a god or not?.
currently i am leaning toward agnosticism, but all the suffering in the world, all the loss and pain in my own life makes it hard for me to simply let go of the idea and hope that at the end justice will prevail, that one day god can make it all good.. .

Why box yourself into a belief system, especially when there is no actual evidence to support it? Better to remain totally open and available to what's actually present and real right here right now rather than being caught up in thinking and then believing one way or the other. Find out what happens when all beliefs are let go, including the beliefs that create your idea of who you are. Who/what are you when all thoughts about the "me" stop running through your mind? Stop supporting your ideas of "me" that have been fed to you your entire life by your family, the educational system, your culture, and whatever religious upbringing you've had. Challenge the validity of every belief you have of yourself and see what's present when they all fall away.

Recievers can catch the football in their butt and Payton can drill em.
Great prime time viewing: see Payton drill his receivers in the butt.

I became a big Russell Wilson fan when he joined the Wisconsin Badgers so I am hoping Seattle wins, despite the fact that Denver has Wisconsin alumnus Monte Ball playing for them.

"Sorry, the superbowl is a big yawn when you've experienced a real sport that dwarfs the invented-to-sell-equipment and stop-start-to-show-ads or lets-all-have-a-fight sports of North America...America really should get on board with soccer."
Yeah, why settle for North American lets-all-have-a-fight sports when you can be a soccer fan and join in some old fashioned rioting and death from its fan?

Getting bariatric surgery in March!
by marmot inafter being on a waiting list for three and a half years i've finally reached the light at the end of the tunnel and am going under the knife for a gastric sleeve operation in march.
i can't tell you how pumped i am because i'll finally be able to re-take my life after being severely overweight for several years.
i gained a ton of weight after being put on meds for bipolar disorder and it made exercising a painful chore.

Good luck and good health, marmot. I have a niece who has been on an exercise regimen for about 2 years now and has lost 160 lbs. She finally decided to do something about her weight when she was not allowed to go on a ride at Disney World because of her size. No amount of encouragement and prodding from family and friends worked prior to that. She still has a ways to go, but she looks and feels great.

Should Creationism Ever Be Taught In Schools?
by nicolaou inthis is taken from the bbc's sunday morning show 'the big questions'.
i was going to pick out a few highlights but really, you need to watch the whole thing - it's only 23 minutes.
seriously, i could feel the bile and frustration rising in my gullet .

Whose Creationism/I.D. curriculum should be viewed as acceptable to everyone if it is taught as science in schools ? Would people accept a curriculum whose authors have a faith background anchored in Islam, or Hinduism, or some other nonChristian religion? I'd wager against it. That should set people's alarms off whether creationism is religious or not. If it is to be taught then it shouldn't be in the science room. Leave provable facts to where it belongs, science.

The first thing that came to my mind was actually witnessing Sputnik fly overhead in 1957 when I was 6 years old; I can still picture where I was - standing outside at night with my family at the intersection half a block away and looking up at the night sky and being amazed by the sight. Can't say I actually eyewitnessed any other real history first hand, but of course saw lots of stuff on TV, like the assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald, moon shots, coverage of JFK's funeral, coverage of the Cuban Missile Crisis (which scared the bejesus out of me).

The only thing in this world we have complete unquestionable control over is our own mind, and our own thoughts, and how we choose to frame (or think about) things.

Stop your thoughts on demand and see how successful you are at controlling your mind. You may suppress them for a very short time, but they will come again. If you've ever had a single thought that you didn't want then you have no control over your mind/thinking.
