Finally hit 32 today in northern Wisconsin after months of sustained below average temperatures. Our local elementary school has had indoor recess nearly 50 times this season, which happens when windchill is below zero. Still several of feet of snow on the ground, but March is hisorically quite snowy here, so we aren't out of the woods yet.

I did it !!!!
by snare&racket in7 years ago i started on a path i had long ago given up on as impossible.
i met with my elders and told them i could not justify carrying on as a jw.
i went and got my high school qualifications and my higher education diploma (a levels with distinction) in just 12 months.

This will blow you away - if the moon were the size of a pixel.
by poppers inthis shows the scale of our solar system in a way that is a little more meaningful to our puny minds.

Yup, this just shows a few light hours. The size of the universe is staggering, beyond human conception. Same goes for atomic scale, which this link also comments on toward the end.

The numbers don't lie...or do they?
by stillin inat a recent ca, the co was commending the r&f about mid-week meeting attendance.
he said that it was up 4% since he first began working in our circuit.
i was listening as some were patting each other on their backs about that at last nights meeting and it occurred to me that there were many empty seats.

Has anyone used this question on a JW? How might they respond?
by BU2B inas i was laying in bed i thought of a question to ask my wife.
"when the wt has an article on the next change in teaching or new light, just guessing, what do you think it might be?".
it does not need to be phrased just like that, but i thought it might be a powerful question since it would make the jw subconsciously question all of the current teachings, something they are not taught to do.

How about asking, "What would you like the next new light to be?" What sort of reaction would that trigger?

Pete Seeger, the great peace activist and folk singer, has passed
by designs inpete seeger wrote songs that became the heart and soul of the civil rights movement- where have all the flowers gone, if i had a hammer, turn turn turn, waist depp in the big muddy, we shall overcome.... we traveled to the newport folk festival, which pete helped establish, and got to sing with the great man himself.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y2siieqy34.

Pete came to our local elementary school here in northern Wisconsin a year ago to give a program. He used his music as a teaching tool and involved the kids within his program. He was passionate about sharing his ideas through his music, especially with children. He was a big hit. Rest in peace, Pete.

Talking with a nonbeliever...
by suavojr inin my search for the truth and the burning desire to become free from all forms of dogma and wishful thinking.
i have approached my first crossroads in my life, should i continue to believe in a god or not?.
currently i am leaning toward agnosticism, but all the suffering in the world, all the loss and pain in my own life makes it hard for me to simply let go of the idea and hope that at the end justice will prevail, that one day god can make it all good.. .

Why box yourself into a belief system, especially when there is no actual evidence to support it? Better to remain totally open and available to what's actually present and real right here right now rather than being caught up in thinking and then believing one way or the other. Find out what happens when all beliefs are let go, including the beliefs that create your idea of who you are. Who/what are you when all thoughts about the "me" stop running through your mind? Stop supporting your ideas of "me" that have been fed to you your entire life by your family, the educational system, your culture, and whatever religious upbringing you've had. Challenge the validity of every belief you have of yourself and see what's present when they all fall away.
