Haha, I made waves a few times, like when I was trying to step down as a regular pioneer and the PO wouldn't let me. He just kept pushing me to press on and laid on his guilt trips. So I waited for the circuit overseer's visit, grabbed the PO and CO, and told them both in no uncertain terms that I would no longer be pioneering despite the POs reluctance to accept my resignation. I was hammered on a meeting, one on one with the PO, after the visit, for my "disrespect". Lol, like he respected me and my wishes. I still can't believe it took me until 38 to disassociate. I was in my late teens and early twenties for these instances.

Voting At Meetings
by Spoletta inwhy is it that the watchtower finances are cloaked in secrecy, yet when the congregation is ask to approve extra donations to the organization, the voting is in public, so everyone can see who is "loyal" to jehovah.. hmm... i think i just answered my question.

ARC Analysis Summary of Case Files
by Richard Oliver ini have been doing research on the arc as some people on here have suggested.
i find it interesting on the case file analysis some of the findings.
it looks like queensland and new south wales had the biggest problems with this.

I didn't read all of this, but Richard, do you agree or disagree with the assertion that Jehovah's Witnesses have policies that are wrong and contribute to abuse being swept under the rug? Do they put children outside the Borg at risk by failing to report? Have they been gulity of destroying evidence? Have they discouraged victims from reporting to police? Have they discouraged victims from getting proper and professional therapy to help them? Do you agree or disagree that there is system in place in the organization that falls woefully short?
Those are the issues at hand, not how a number that was supplied by Watchtower and that some have come forth showing that they weren't included, breaks down technically. Many never even report, and with such a daunting and dehumanizing system put forth by Jehovah's Witnesses, can you blame them?

Ugh, I hated that. One time our PO got up there with a motion to remodel the Hall. In my opinion we didn't need it, and we could build several Halls in areas that needed it with those same funds. He proudly announced that there'd have to be something wrong with you not to agree on this one, and my wife and I raised our hands like good robots. Afterward though, I caught him in a foyer and told him to let the record reflect two dissenters and that I thought what he did was wrong. I'm sure I was on a list somehow, but I always challenged them.

Are baptized Witnesses that are no longer in the "truth", but were NEVER DF'D, now to be shunned and treated like disfellowshipped ones?
by Dunedain ina relative of mine was telling me, that in his, and a few neighboring congregations, there is a little confusion amongst some of the jw's about this "issue".
some families are having a hard time about whether certain relatives will be attending certain family functions, because some family members that are no longer in the "truth", might be invited to these functions.
mind you, these persons were never disfellowshipped.

Cobweb nailed it, and we all knew what "serious sin" would represent when we were in, and no it wasn't being inactive. There is no official shunning the faded policy, not that it stops some overzealous ones from doing so.

If "the Truth" is the truth, why are witnesses so scared of research?
by stuckinarut2 init is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?
didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.
seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.

Because they might find something "truthier" and the fallout from that rabbit hole is to great to bear. Deep down they know it doesn't all add up, but well...you know....cognitive dissonance. Thus, head in the sand. It's much more comfortable to feel right than to prove it.

Hospice and JW
by Terry Clees ini am a bereavement coordinator with a hospice company.
i have noticed that most often jw patients decline chaplain care and also the family ends up declining bereavement care.
where i work our chaplains do not proselytize at all...they merely walk with the patient in their faith at the end of life.

Last April my dad was in hospice. The chaplain was super nice and wanted to help, but of course my dad said no. They believe that they have the truth and anything you could add would be little more than a dilution of their truth at a time when they're most vulnerable. If they turn you away, respect it and move on. That's not the time to interject yourself where you're not wanted. I'm sure that you believe in what you do, and I think it's nice, but they don't.
In the end this isn't about you, so don't make it so.

How Do JWs Reconcile Contradictions Between Mt. and Lk. and Their Birth Stories?
by Saename indoes anybody know how jehovah's witnesses reconcile the contradictions between the stories of jesus' birth as found in matthew and luke?
when i was a jehovah's witness, i wasn't even aware of this contradiction; i simply thought that all of it happen—namely that there was a census (luke 2) and the slaughter of the innocents (matthew 2) simultaneously.
but at the time i didn't know that the census took place in 6 ce and that herod the great died in 4 bce, thus placing those birth stories 10 years apart in time.

Wow, nice points OP. I had never heard of this either, and just did a little research. It all really comes crumbling down so easily, doesn't it. There are just so many holes and issues with the Bible, and I knew of none of them as a JW.

All About The Words We Used
by dubstepped inin the time since i've left the borg behind i've had a few things hit me as to how words were used.
i'm wondering if anyone else has some similar examples, but here are some things that have made me think:.
watchtower - my whole life i saw this as a thing of protection from outside evil forces, and then when i left someone pointed out "isn't that what they used to keep people in prison".

Great additions so far. Here's another:
To be "used" in the congregation was supposed to indicate privilege, when in reality it was exactly as it sounded, until you were "used" up.
