They kept members after 1975. People stuck around after Tight Pants Tony, constant changes in what a generation means including overlapping ones, and likely lots of local scandals. There is none so blind as he who shall not see. They put their fingers on their ears and close their eyes. You'd be wasting 2 minutes of your life.

Your best chance is probably to have them watch something like the Scientology shows by Leah Remini. Perhaps they would wake up to the similarities, but anything that is done requires them to wake up. 2 minutes isn't enough to do anything.

@Zophar - I know right? That trial result was something else.

I think one thing that made a mark on me was just how deep the mark was made on the kid. He was in that cult of one, but only for a few years? (didn't follow the timeline well) and look at how deeply he was impacted. Most of us here were indoctrinated for decades. Obviously people take things like that more or less seriously, and he took it seriously, but it just made me reflect on the strength shown by all of us here. We all went through so much to get here and to deprogram ourselves.

@Londo - Yep, a cult of one. And just like JWs, he knows when to hide what he truly believes if it isn't in his best interests. Funny how those manipulative cunts seem to be able to see what their beliefs look like while still trying to hook the vulnerable with them. I had to take a minute to just let that episode sink in.

so i have been "faded" for approximately 2.5 years.

my parents know i haven't attended a meeting in quite some time, but don't know that i have been dating a guy for about eight months.

we really love each other and his family is super sweet.

At some point in your life you'll have to come clean. This is the problem with fading. Are you really going to be able to play JW games forever? It's not a matter of if, but when you start showing the real you. That doesn't mean the time is now, but you can't hide forever.

I'd just tell the truth to his family. All the stuff about cults and so forth, and how this isn't possible. That's just me though. It won't go well if you tell your folks, but you know that so you came here hoping for a miracle.

Have you looked for other explanations on your own? Just curious. You see, we got used to being spoonfed information by others as JWs, relying on others to tell us right from wrong. How much research have you done? I posted a link above because I was hoping you'd follow it and start that process. We can help, but ultimately part of leaving the cult is standing on your own two feet when it comes to these beliefs.

Research the origins if the bible itself and likely you'll stop caring about interpretations of specific prophecies. Everything you were taught was based on the bible being gods unfailing word. Is it? Start there.

The Constant Mindchatter After You Leave

i've been out almost 2 years now and consider myself wide awake to watchtower propaganda and well on my way to recovery from the mental abuse we've all experienced.. one thing that just will not go is that i constantly think of jwism and watchtower and get myself all annoyed at their lies and blatant twisting of facts in their broadcasts and magazines.

it's so bad that it's the first thing i think of when i wake up, then i have these mental arguments in my head proving the jw teachings false and then getting annoyed because no jw will listen even if you tried to tell them.

i call this constant thinking and mental reasoning and mental arguing "mindchatter".

You haven't been out long, and you just watched the way your brother was treated. You just had lies told about you too by family. Of course the mindchatter hasn't stopped, my friend. You haven't had distance, and I honestly don't think you need a break from here. I think that you get that closure by being here and that your brain needs time and information like found on here to work it out. You can't run from it. Now, maybe taking a week away would help, I don't know, as I did that once and it helped because I was spinning a little too much with the stuff, but ultimately the only way around is through, in my opinion and for what that's worth.

Perhaps you just need to find your voice. I did so through my podcast. Hey, maybe that could help. Would you like to tell your story on the "shunned" podcast? I know the guy that does it. He's a wanker, but he takes his audio out of the interview so it's just you telling your story (well, most of the time) so you don't even have to hear his shrill voice. ;)

Seriously though. My wife had not slept well in almost 2 years since leaving the cult. She sat down, really figured out her story and went through it, told it on my podcast, and she's legitimately slept great ever since. It was quite the realization to her. Everyone that has done so thus far has said how cathartic it is. Maybe it would help. Let me know if you want to try it. I'll be doing some interviews in February and could probably fit you in my friend.

Or because the teaser was very short and so accurate that most know they don't have to watch the whole 2+ hour rebuttal. The teaser was dead on, perhaps too kind because I did watch much of it and holy cow tha was more awful than I imagined.

I can admit that Cedars is way too long winded. But really, if you can watch that video and not see what a cult it is then you are nothing more than brainwashed yourself, end of story. It's horrifying.
