I'm not an "oldster", at least not old enough to have been watching in the 60's, but I watched reruns when I was a kid in the 80's, maybe in the early 90s as I went into high school years. I just caught it in whatever order I found it and whatever times I got to watch it but I remember it being a good show. I liked the movie too when it came out. Honestly I just remember the overarching story at this point, the one armed man, etc. Looks like quite a commitment to watch all of that but that's a good find.

Have You Changed Your Viewing Habits Regarding Sports and Entertainment?
by minimus indo you still avidly view sports and entertainment?
have you been affected by athletes views on racism, the national anthem, white peoples vs. black?
same question for those in the entertainment industry.

Sports have always been a big part of my life. I'm no longer in a cult and don't need everyone around me to think like me, so although I don't agree with the support given to certain organizations by players or leagues it has no impact on my enjoyment of the game other than minor annoyance that the subject has to come up at all. In fact, I'm going to a college football game this weekend. I agree with those that say we shouldn't take celebrities or athletes seriously when they're espousing their opinions, so I don't, and I just go enjoy the games. I don't look to anyone else for my beliefs, nor do I need them to support them. They play a role in my life, and it is for entertainment.

Are they doing this to mitigate illnesses that could present with symptoms close to Covid to try to cut down on Covid scares by eliminating one possible illness with overlapping symptoms? I don't like people being told what to do like that but I might be able to understand if there's reason like this.

Not your circus, not your monkeys. Simply because someone had sex and you were the byproduct doesn't mean they were ever good for you in any way or that you owe them anything. Many people have toxic and abusive parents that end up spending their lives acting like they have Stockholm Syndrome, chasing that love from people that never had it for them, continuing the abusive cycle. I'd walk away and leave her be. You're likely going to drag your heart through the briars again and for what.
I find that many ex-JWs make a mistake of seeing their parents through an ideal lens of who they wish they were instead of who they actually are. They spend their entire lives never being good enough for people that are often abusive and possibly full blown narcissists. You can't get anything good and they will take everything they can from you, leaving you broken, just the same pattern as the cult but in the form of a parent.
You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to run. Work on grieving that bad relationship and accepting that it is what it is and losing the tight grip on a hope that it somehow could be different, and let it go.
If there's some sort of elder abuse you could report then you might do that but then it's out of your hands. And just because your abusive mom requests you doesn't mean you have to indulge her.

Worldwide Campaign Nov 2020
by Listener inthanks petra and atlantis for sending the latest letter regarding the watchtowers plan for a worldwide campaign in november this year.
i am wondering what they are planning to achieve from this campaign, particularly their focus on sending the watchtower 2020 no.
2, titled "what is god's kingdom" to politicians, governments (and tribal leaders) around the world.. it would appear that this is their answer to governments who have put them in the spot light for their bad policies, particularly their handling of child abuse.

So the rank and file are believing right now that this is the end. Between Covid and the social/political unrest many are beating the drum that this is the end. Now Watchtower wants to go after the governments to incite them, from my view. I think this isn't a response to the UK or Australian governmental inquiries but rather those morons trying to push "prophecy" to be fulfilled. They're trying to push governments to turn on them. That's just my cynical view.

Culture Wars
by Victor inwith things going to hell in a hand basket, i’ve taken an interest in the clashes of mindsets.
this of course takes me back to my own evolutionary mindset pre and post jw life of two decades.
if you overlay the core beliefs of memetic tribes as postulated by the authors, i’m curious what the median tribe of jwd would be?

That was a fantastic article and I've shared it on Facebook with friends. I agree with most of it, learned about some groups I had never heard of, and liked the overall premise.

My letter of disassociation, what do you think?
by James Jack indear brothers, july 27, 2020. in 1919, the president of the watchtower society made a bold prediction, “millions now living will never die”.
that quotation was constantly repeated by the organization till the year 2000 when they realized that everyone in attendance at that assembly, who listened to j.r. rutherford repeat those words, are dead.. that teaching has guided my life.
statements were repeatedly made at assemblies, conventions and in print that there was no career in “this system of things” so you don’t need a job with benefits or retirement, your fulltime job is to “preach the good news”!

Congrats James! Disassociating was the best decision for my wife and I. Out 5 years in September and we'd make the same choice again. I only wish we had done it sooner.
