  Writing my Disassociation letter

  today i am working on writing my disassociation letter.

  i successfully faded a year ago.

  but i feel like i can't keep looking over my shoulder anymore i just need to be completely rid of this cult.. any suggestions on letter and it's content?.

  Write whatever let's you get your feelings out. It's about you, not them. Send it to everyone if you wish, though I personally see that as a waste of time because they won't be ready to hear it anymore than the elders that get it and they will see you as an apostate and shun you anyway. Seems like a waste of time and postage but if it makes you feel like you made a mark, go for it. Again, it's about you. None of them are likely to care. What makes you feel free.

  My letter was very respectful and kind because that's the person I wanted to be. Others may get salty. Whatever floats your boat.

  The really cool feeling of community within JWs

  i remember going out with other jws after the memorial.. small gatherings.. picnics at some local landmark.. the feeling of closeness, camaraderie, friendship with like minded people you could trust.. haven't experienced it since i left.. really miss that..

  JWs here never did much together other than field service or meetings unless you were lucky enough to be in the right cliques. I do far more socially outside of them. I longed for community and they never provided it.

  i have a question about where to send my disassociation letter.

  do i give a copy to the overseer of the cong i was in and the branch?

  How is it any more playing by their rules than remaining in their organization? How is it more playing by their rules than having the possibility of elders showing up at your door unexpected or getting phone calls? The people that stay in and have to listen to relatives preach at them or leave doors open are playing the organizations game far more than a person that uses disassociation to give them a all a big f-you. Actively taking a stand is nothing to be ashamed of. I get so tired of the discouragement of disassociating. Maybe if enough people did it instead of slinking away they would have to take notice of it.

  In the end, do what you like. I don't get why people try to discourage people from doing so. There are pros and cons to just about anything. Some of us choose to disassociate and it too can be fabulous and freeing and the best thing is that it's permanent. No more harassment. No more preaching at me. No longer am I on their books. I took an active stand against them. No more do I carry that JW label. I cannot be called into any judicial action. I can't inadvertently stumble someone in the congregation and worry about them telling on me, not that I even want to do anything wild and crazy.

  Good for you beautifulmind. My wife and I are so happy for you. Take your stand against them and be proud.

  The last conversation I ever had with my dad was him calling me yelling at me for "loving the gays". Apparently years ago I said something about how gay people didn't choose to be that way, how many of them know from an early ae, how they don't choose that anymore than we choose heterosexuality, how there are genetics involved, and if nothing else why would anyone choose something that would bring so much heartache into their life. That made me a "lover of the gays", I guess. I just love all people now and don't feel it's my place to judge like I did when I was an uber dub.

  All he could say to me was "do you believe the Bible", not that he could quote or even relate one scripture. He's an elder and as judgemental as they come. It was a ridiculous conversation. My mom overheard and later related that she was embarrassed by it. My wife overheard and was dumbfounded. That's my dad though. He once went on and on about how nobody in the congregation should use any type of nicotine patches or anything to quit smoking because nicotine was a drug. Ironically, my dad used sugar as a drug his whole life and kept eating it over and over while doctors begged him not too and he's now on dialysis for destroying his kidneys. But God forbid someone use a nicotine patch to quit smoking. The judgemental hypocrisy in the organization, the narrow mindedness, is absolutely frightening when you consider who is actually taking the lead in many congregations.

  Nah, just send it to your congregation body of elders. That's what I was instructed to do when I sent mine a few months ago. If you want you could send a copy to particular elders, i.e. the COBE. No need to send anything to the branch.

  By the way, congrats on the decision. You're one step away from total freedom from that organization. It was very freeing for us.

  Adult Coloring Books

  anybody take up coloring?

  i got lost ocean by johanna basford and i got another coloring book mandalas and more.

  i just use crayola colored pencils and some gel pens and thin tipped markers.

  Adult (not nudie) coloring books are hot (no, not that kind of hot) right now. My wife loves them and has more markers and pens and coloring pencils than most people. She really wanted someone to color with and had no friends in the Borg. Now we're shunned and making new friends but I decided to be her coloring friend. I don't get into it much, but I bought some small coloring books that we could keep in the work van. We take an occasional coloring break with lunch. It can be quite meditative.

  Thanks Talesin, you have to watch what you ask for. We never thought our adventure would include leaving the Borg when we started out the year, though we certainly did have some issues brewing for years. If you aren't officially out, who knows, maybe your "year of the walk" will be your walk right out of the dubs as well. I don't know what your official stance is currently.

  I like to reflect as well. Winter is a great time for it. Go get your walk on next year and enjoy. You never know where you might end up once you start walking. :)

  I don't do resolutions per se, but every year my wife and I try to come up with a theme that we can focus on throughout the year. One year it was getting out of debt, another was cleaning up our eating (an ongoing process always), this was our self-proclaimed "year of adventure" and it certainly was. Now that we're officially DA'ed and rebuilding our lives, I think that next year will be the year of relationships or something, trying to build upon that foundation that we have now and really strengthen and expand our circle of friends and the new family that we're building for ourselves.

  America - Do They Teach Science in North Carolina?

  i don't know whether to laugh or weep.

  us town rejects solar panels amid fears they 'suck up all the energy from the sun'...... jane mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.

  ms mann said she had seen areas near solar panels where plants are brown and dead because they did not get enough sunlight.

  Seems like that inspector adequately identified many of the problems in the organization as a whole. No real training, no individual care, time spent in mindless Bible study as the sole focus, no real community, and mindless people walking around while on the whole the participants have nothing but praise for the way they are treated.
