  The Book of Mormon

  my wife and i went to see it today at the encouragement of some of our new friends.

  we laughed until we cried, and it was so cathartic to sit in a room full of hundreds of people laughing at the ridiculousness of religion.

  sure, the subject is mormonism, but it was very poignant and applicable to all religion.

  It is a play, developed by the same guys that did the cartoon South Park. It is very blunt, non-politically correct, and it just takes shot after shot at Mormon beliefs and religious beliefs in general if you think about it. It is a famous Broadway play in the United States. I don't know where it travels to, but if you look it up and find that it is near you, it is worth the price of admission. Be forewarned, it has similar humor in it to the South Park cartoon, but it is intelligent. There are lessons too, about kindness and such. It's not all irreverent.

  Edit to add: It looks like you can go on youtube and find both acts one and two recorded from various plays. You can listen to the songs as well. Might be worth viewing, though nothing like seeing it in person.

  My wife and I went to see it today at the encouragement of some of our new friends. We laughed until we cried, and it was so cathartic to sit in a room full of hundreds of people laughing at the ridiculousness of religion. Sure, the subject is Mormonism, but it was very poignant and applicable to all religion. If you haven't seen it, you really owe it to yourself. We left the theater just awestruck at how much applied to the dubs and our lives growing up. If it comes to a town near you, see it.

  i hope to make a decision within days and plan to publish within weeks.. it has now been 50 weeks since that statement.. has the book been published yet?

  If her health won't allow her to pursue this, then turn it over to someone that can/will. Seems like many are willing to help. I too wonder if her capacity is minimized by the cult.

  I can't believe that anyone would say to let sleeping dogs lie and besides, there's other books on the subject. Really? Are they written by former governing body members with great Biblical insight? We're not just talking any book here, we're talking the most influential book in helping people leave the cult. Until this person gets off their duff and gets this book out, long live piracy because it helps people and that's more important than a copyright someone is sitting on. Lives are at stake. COC was a huge help to my wife and I and I'm thankful that someone had pdf files and even an audio version. Changed my life for the better. Put the damn book out and I'll pay for one too, but until then it needs to be available and if piracy is the only option, that's on the copyright holder.

  Oh, and thanks Nathan Natas for trying to help the project, along with others. It needs to be readily available.

  Jehovah God is Real

  there are many on this site that do not believe that jehovah truly exists; that he is not a real being.

  but, he is as real as next breath you draw into your nostrils.. some of you say that there is no evidence that he exists.

  yet, none of you can prove that he does not exits.. cofty, (you come to mind), i appreciate that you have stated, without reservation, that you do not believe that god exists.. yet, you cannot prove it.. hope in jehovah..

  This thread is like reading about Jehovah in the Bible. Lots of words from someone claiming to know something without any facts or ability to answer questions or challenges. I guess Jehovah is real then, assuming this is. You have me convinced! All glory be to TOTC!

  Hard to be completely respectful and the JW attitude

  recently at work they conducted an mbti test for me.

  for those who don't know, the mbti test is a personality test used by organizational psychologists in companies and organizations.

  it is supposed to describe the best way you communicate, the best way of giving and receiving feedback, and for managers that test is supposed to explain to them the best way to manage their employees (i'm over simplifying, i know).. my profile came up as some kind of introvert (and when i was told that i said "what?

  Well, if I remember correctly I too am an INTJ. I also shared that "devil's advocate" part of your personality and the negative and sarcastic tone, though I've worked hard to tone things down so as to better be heard by others. I also find you to be one of my favorite posters, so welcome to the club.

  I believe that the JWs foster such a personality, even the literature having an air of superiority and mocking tone. I also believe that it attracts people that naturally had that to begin with.

  I'm really sorry about what happened to the collage you made. I felt a little gut punch just reading it. I'm also sorry for your loss.

  1. When I was 7-8 and my parents bought a house right next to a JW family. You can guess where that went.

  2. International Convention of 2014 in Indianapolis. We left early on the first day, my wife in tears, and felt such relief as we drove away from the hotel after retrieving our stuff to head home. We discussed on the way home how we just didn't fit and could never go back, and we didn't .

  3. May of 2015 we drive to NYC to see my DFed brother and come home to be shunned by family .

  4. September 2, 2015, our disassociation is officially announced and we start our new life.
