I agree that it's an issue that the dubs are so broken up. It's a move to displace responsibility and funds in such a way that their liability is limited, and it is disgusting. They did all kinds of this in Australia from what I understand so that they don't have to pay for anything. It probably is legal though. It just shows that the dubs have no ethics and morals and only care about protecting that almighty dollar, their real savior. That is concerning, but nothing new. That isn't necessarily what the thread was about either. I get the issues with it though.

Disfellowshipping decision to go before Canadian Supreme Court
by Simon inhigh court will examine whether judicial review applies to membership decisions made by religious groups.
the supreme court of canada has agreed to hear an appeal involving a calgary man who was kicked out of his jehovah's witness church.. randy wall, a real estate agent was "disfellowshipped" from the highwood congregation for being drunk on two occasions and allegedly verbally abusing his wife.. as a result, he says his clients refused to do further business with him, so he argued his property and civil rights were affected.. after losing three internal church appeals of his expulsion, wall made an application with the court of queen's bench in calgary which ordered a hearing to first determine if there was jurisdiction for the court to hear the application.. decisions and appeals.
a judge decided the superior court did have jurisdiction to hear the application.. the church then appealed wall's decision to the alberta court of appeal, which upheld the court of queen's bench, affirming the court has jurisdiction to hear the matter.. one of the three appeal court judges dissented — arguing that congregations are private organizations akin to bridge clubs, whose decisions "are not enforceable promises and have limited, if any, impact outside its small circle.".

Ugh, any dub with a business will often quickly find out that brothers and sisters are the worst customers ever. I tried to stay away myself.
I'm glad to see this case go up the ladder. I think the guy will lose, but it exposes the policies of the JWs and ties up resources, so I'm happy regardless of the verdict.

And neither the Mitchells nor the WT should be held liable for someone falling down the stairs unless something was done wrong to cause it. People today just look for deep pockets and hope to get a payoff for unfortunate events. Unless someone pushed her or a step gave way or somehow they caused her to fall there's nobody at fault but the person that fell, and it unfortunately had catastrophic results.
I'm all for tying the WT up in any way possible and wasting their resources, but this one is a stretch.

Honestly if there was nothing wrong with the steps then there's no reason for a lawsuit. That one isn't hard. She fell, it's tragic, but that doesn't mean someone has to pay.

I think you make great points. I'm so sorry that you're facing what you're facing. I wish I had some positive quip that would make everything better but I don't.

@djeggnog - Where does the faithful slave encourage spiritually mature ones to have association with disfellowshipped ones?

Tuesday night my wife will go help a young recently disfellowshipped mom miss her first Memorial with her son who will likely be missing his first as well. They will go to a park and hang out, have fun with the kids, and then go back to her place just to hang out and talk and process things. This young lady is struggling because her JW parents exert such pressure on her, refusing to even see their grandson unless she brings him to a meeting, because Jehovah's Witnesses are assholes, even to small children that did nothing to them.
I will be at home working on some projects. We have someone coming to measure for new carpet in our basement, and unfortunately an hvac contractor because our outside unit is making crazy noise this Spring. So I'll probably be prepping some for the new carpet, then maybe working on a business idea that I have, eating some dinner, watching some tv, and waiting for my wife to get home from helping a poor indoctrinated girl not feel like a horrible person for not caving to her parents' undue influence and blackmail.

There are adults that are taken in by it. I would focus more on boundaries (keep your cult garbage to yourself) than I would hoping my kids could overcome it. Get those grown adults to mind their manners and respect your boundaries if they want to see your kiddos.

Is it possible to decline preaching in the carts?
by Skepsis inhi folks,.
i have a difficult dilemma.
since i'm not pioneering any more, i'm reducing my hours wasted at that artifact known as cart or trolley.

Getting back to your assertion that you can't stop pioneering and then stop as a ministerial servant back to back, let me tell you that I did it. Now, I did it way before learning TTATT, but I did it. I was burned out, took too much on too quickly and wanted a reset. I stopped pioneering and then a few months later stepped down as a MS. Nobody thought apostate, though any time that you step down people will look at you differently. It's just part of the loving organization that you're a part of. Glad to hear you're slowing down though. I missed this the first time around.

Animals, Blood, Food, and JW Beliefs
by dubstepped ini'm just thinking aloud here.
i watched a show yesterday and they were talking about how the largest mammals of the sea (whales) fed on such small creatures (plankton) rather than eating some other large creatures.
anyway, it got me thinking about how as jws we thought that in paradise animals would all be herbivores, that they would no longer eat other animals.

I had a hard time with all of that too Cofty. It was "independent thinking", but as we all did, I pushed it down with the magic "leave it in Jehovah's hands" or "Jehovah will make it work" thinking. I was good at that until enough of those things built up to where I could no longer do it anymore.
