My wife and I just watched this an enjoyed it thoroughly. Now, we're both new to this new way of seeing life, evolution, etc., so I can't speak to the accuracy of things, but it makes sense and we thought it was well done.

Best way to deal with anger at the GB while waking up?

good morning everyone , .

i am wondering how people have personally delt with the anger at the gb when waking up and realizing it’s a scam, lie , and it’s awfully depressing .

i have had difficulty concentrating at work , have had an emotional roller coaster between okay days and awful days.

Okay, I don't know if this helps or not, but a new trend seems to be online therapy through sites like talkspace.com. I've never used it, but you can do text and/or video chat, maybe more. I hear it advertised on some podcasts and it is highly recommended by the host of one show that actually uses it after years of in person therapy. He updates his own journey and seems to genuinely like it. Just a thought.

What to Do....Please Help. Awakening JW for a very long time

good afternoon , .

i have been having doubts for many years and as most jw's i have certainly not done myself a favor by suppressing all of my critical thinking.

i am married with 3 kids and my wife and i are inactive, but my wife has made it very clear in speech and action that she wants to go to all meetings, field service, and indoctrinate our kids.

@Covertsadjw - There is a grieving process to go through just like with a death. Look up the steps of grief and you'll go through them all. You may need to vent your anger. Reading here helped me, as did posting occasionally with a rant if necessary to let it out. Unfortunately you're still living in the middle of crazytown, so that's going to make it harder.

The anger comes in waves. I still get that way at times. It's all a process of processing. Decades of cult involvement don't just go away. I heard it said that it's like deleting a file on your computer. It doesn't show up but it's still there and recoverable. Over time things get written over it, bit by bit, but it takes a long time to go away and is still recoverable by programs or experts.

Maybe going to a therapist for help in processing and dealing will help. Or go to one of those places where you get to break stuff in a room for a price, lol. Music helped me at times. A good angry throwdown song released some pressure.

@Never a jw - Well, they also spoke as to how things went in situations where one parent leaves the religion and it turns out that there seems to be a bias toward to one parent that stays in. The religious person is typically favored, and they in cases like this may have things on their side that are seen as stable like family and community.

I'm not trying to get into an argument and don't care enough to. I don't want to derail this guy's thread. Your comment just brought up something that I had literally just listened about.

Calling Cofty and others regarding evolution

so i have started down the path of trying to understand evolution, and to get the linear lies that the jws planted in my head out of it.

i bought an audiobook called "evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters" by donald prothero.

i heard it recommended on an atheist podcast that i listened to.

Oh dear baby Jesus I'll believe in creationism again if it will make this hot peppery mess stop patting himself on the back. Or maybe this is a great test for evolution, to see if humans can actually grow an appendage for just that thing over time. I think we might have the start here on this thread.

Actually, his wife has every legal right to teach her kids any culty crap she wants. I was just listening to a podcast (How to Heretic) yesterday and they had a lawyer on and asked him if kids had a right to get away and dictate such matters. Courts even let Amish take kids out of school to live Amish lives on farms and effectively end education. They're your kids, teach them as you wish. Of course, in this case both parents have that right. So dad here is the only hope regarding cult indoctrination.

Yeah, I mean heck, who wants to drop a few bucks to support people putting this message out there. I bet they were stupid enough to put money into their project to get the good word out about JWs. Losers. Don't they know they could have done a better job and for free? Surely you could and I'm sure we'd all be blown away. ;)

Are JWs capable of a genuine discussion?

i was just pondering whether jws are capable of having a calm, in depth discussion about religious or faith topics?.

i have just finished listening to a great podcast by "dogma debate" (dan) episode 333. this fantastic, in-depth conversation between a theist and an atheist was a masterful example of how a dignified conversation can take place without it resorting to abruptness or even nastiness.. jws on the other hand seem incapable of having such discussion without ending up in the following ways:.

1)they get dogmatic and defensive if a differing view is presented.. 2)if the conversation doesn't go their way, they cut it short saying something like "well, we had better agree to disagree" or the like.. so why the arrogance?

The arrogance and defensiveness is because of ego. These aren't merely beliefs that JWs hold, these beliefs are who JWs ARE. It is their entire identity. It dominates every thought, feeling, and action. So any amount of questioning threatens their very being, their existence. It's too personal for them. They cannot have a genuine discussion because they're too involved in it yet probably don't fully even understand what they believe and deep down they know it. A genuine discussion brings the pain of cognitive dissonance which is too great to bear.
