Which is better minimum wage or minimum income?
by hoser inwe were having this discussion in the office the other day and we came to the conclusion minimum wage is better because it still adds to the economy vs minimum income which someone could potentially stay at home and do nothing and still get paid without producing a thing for the greater economy.. thoughts?.

It bothers me to hear people equate minimum wage to slavery. Don't like minimum wage? You have the ability to walk out and apply elsewhere. You can start a business today more easily than at any other time. There are many options but many people don't want to work. My friend has a handyman business and pays ridiculously well but the people he hires don't work, steal, etc. I know owners of cleaning businesses that can't even get people to show up for an interview. Heck, I turn down work all the time because I don't want to babysit grown ass people that I'm also paying.
I am for a minimum wage like what we have now. It isn't enough to live on and shouldn't be.
I hate the idea of a minimum income. We have programs to catch people now if they fall. Everyone wants to be the savior of the poor. I grew up poor. Poor people often have poor ways of living that keep them there. It's not pc but it's true. Give them money and watch them squander it. Heck, I watched my parents do just that with their inheritance from my grandparents.
People get more lazy and entitled the more we give them, imo. There are countries in Africa that have asked the US charities to stop because their people are getting lazy. A person I knew of started a business there paying more and the people just worked less. Many people don't believe they're worth anything more than what their lot in life is and you can't give them that belief. Comfort is one hell of a drug and it keeps people stuck. I'm against minimums that make people too comfy. That's just my feelings on the matter.

Hey there, I think you've already been given loads of good advice. My wife and I live in southern Indiana, just across the bridge from Louisville KY. Just know that if you get out in time (no rush) there are more of us out here. We'd be happy to come up sometime and say hi. We like to come up and go to Fuel hockey games every so often, just attended the big basketball day at Bankers Fieldhouse, etc. We like to visit Indy and maybe someday when you get out we can visit you.
There's actually an annual apostafest up near Indy that we went to for the first time last year. My wife is from Seymour and has friends that married and moved away, but they have ties to some exjws in Indy too. We met some of them last winter too. You won't have to be alone and you're doing the right thing by building relationships now for that time.

Oh believe me, I get the looks from people, especially those that know me now. I had scholarships to prestigious engineering schools offered to me way back when and when people find out that I was discouraged from going to college they always try to get me to go. It gets old. I have money in the bank, no debt except a very modest mortgage, a waiting list of families that want us to work with them, get to spend every day with my wife, listen to podcasts and books all day, and basically visit friends every day in my work. A lot of people with degrees would kill for that.
With that said, my desire isn't to clean forever. I do worry about the physical toll at some point. It may just be a matter of finding a happy medium though, which is something I'm working on this year.
We've definitely had people look down on us. They're usually the same people that cancel service because they can no longer afford us. We can take the financial hit but they can't, which always strikes me.

I clean houses and get tired of demeaning comments. I've done window washing as well. With that said, I didn't see any reason to take offense to the comment. He was just saying that you have to be super rich to buy a copy of the book and that window cleaners (many of whom are JWs) likely can't afford it. Nowhere did I see him demean anyone. In fact, you said above that many window cleaners are scraping to feed their kids. It's just a simple fact. Nobody seemed to be making fun of anyone to me. I certainly took no offense as one that's cleaned for most of my life.

A perfect guidebook ? Really
by CovertsadJW inif jehovah is a “ perfect “ god and our everlasting life is in the balance - why then does a perfect god give us a very imperfect guide book “ bible “ one that is open for interpretation hundreds - or more - different ways.
if you look at it as an instruction book , it most likely is the worst written instruction book in mankind’s history.
i cannot interpret an instruction book on “ flying a plane “ , it only has one interpretation as your life depends on it , but alas it was written by imperfect men.

Uh oh, somebody is starting to see that not only was faith in JWs worthless, but perhaps also god and/or the bible.
When I left the plan was to be an independent christian. Then I applied the same thought process to the bible and started learning what was behind it, started looking at the ridiculous stories in it, etc. It all came tumbling down. It's not what I wanted, but i did want to search for truth. The old testament god is one of endorsing rape and uses children as fodder for war. There are good priciples in amongst the ridiculous stories and anger of god.
Keep digging my friend. Remember though, god is the best father ever. He gives you a book of riddles and if you don't figure it out he kills you. Praise be.

@ Still Totally ADD - Lol. Sounds like keeping up with the latest tech isn't your thing. Oh well. You find a way.
I announce every podcast on here when it comes out. You can go to the site and listen on your speakers while doing things around the house or whatever floats your boat.

@Vanderhoven - I don't see how you could be disfellowshipped for that. I've heard of elders being removed for going against direction for reporting when told not to.
If you want to know you should start a thread about it. Asking on a thread about the podcast probably isn't your best chance at an answer.
