So much butthurt. Did he reject your story or something?

I get that he's rubbed people the wrong way at times but to discount what he's done over petty stuff is pretty weak.

I ask my guests on the podcast what helped them wake up and most credit him among others. He's helped a lot more people than those that are so mad. Do you know how much time he must spend dealing with the cult to try to help people and then the hate he gets? I just do podcasts and it takes a lot of time. Let's not act like he's getting wealthy off his activism. If he did I wouldn't begrudge it though.

How someone can try to turn a great and encouraging event into their own bitch fest based on one guy is pretty sad. Sounds more like jealousy than anything when it's so petty.

i thinks so.. not only jws have hate the catholic church.

i see it as a world wide thing.

many hate the catholic church with out even truly looking into it for themselves, but rather form their opinion based on other peoples directions.. what say you?.

Thanks VIII. Yes, my brother and I chat when we can. We don't live anywhere near each other but we keep up with one another and I go visit him when I can get away. I lost a mother, father, brother, and sister, but I got one brother back. With shunning you take what you can get. I like what you said about people seeing them as such sincere people at the door, and they are sincere, but they're in something that's sincerely messed up. I just put things out as I can and see what happens, so I'm glad that people like the work I do in whatever way.

Those that need to see a Therapist / and those that don`t is there a correlation of the two ?

there have been a number of threads / posts here over the years about ex jw`s needing to see therapists for what they are going through , and i can appreciate that.. obviously there are many ex jw`s on here that haven`t ever felt the need to see a therapist ,and i`m just wondering why not ?.

why does one feel the need and another does not ?.

is it to do with born ins as against those who were converts ?

Because people are different. Different mental and emotional qualities, different experiences, different levels of buy in, different tools and coping mechanisms available to them, etc. We believed differently, felt differently, lived differently. After leaving people have different support levels available to them. Some have friends or find it in other places, others prefer or only have professional therapists to go to. Again, we are different.

two people sent the book back to me (unread of course) with notes about jehovah's vengeance.

one person tore it up and sent me a note.. however, i know of two born in jws that read it.

I don't know for sure that family has seen it, but I'm sure they have. My Facebook is public, it was shared around, my name is the same as my dad's and he was an elder that gave talks all over. I assume they know. If not that they may have listened to or become aware of my This JW Life podcast where I outlined this in even more detail over 9 episodes. So if they haven't seen this, they probably know of the existence of the podcast. If not that maybe they know of the Shunned Podcast that I do or my presentation recently at the local university. I doubt they can avoid it all.

You're all very welcome. I'm glad that my efforts are helping people in some way. These articles have brought a number of people that I would never have otherwise known to reach out to me and I've made new friends. Pretty cool stuff. I've also helped people to see something that they may not have realized about a cult that appears to be nothing more than smiling people annoying people at their doors.

Wow @Giordano, those stats are something else. I never knew that. To think that millions have left is pretty cool.

i use this extensively rather than re-inventing the wheel.. paul grundy, the admin, keeps it up-to-date and welcomes any corrections or new information, especially in a well-written article, supported by wt publication quotes.. the 2 places i check first is www.jwfacts.com and then searching on jwn with key word(s) to see if the topic has been already extensively researched or commented on.. don't be frightened away by the material being more than 3 paragraphs.

the quotes from wt publications is are extensive and from publications that are older and less available.

i find it good to read many posts on a single topic and expand my knowledge and sources.. blondie.

Smiddy, taking blood isn't being automatically disfellowshipped because those cowards know that looks bad. So they made it an automatic disassociation. That way they don't look bad for shunning you for saving your life. They know how things look and care about that more than people anyway.

@Giordano - Wow, they listed "leavers"? How long ago was that? I remember hearing, and I thought it was from a JW publication, that 70,000 or so were disfellowshipped each year, which obviously was used as a warning that we're all susceptible if we don't do whatever they want us to, but I'm not sure where it was from.

I'd be curious to know how many of us there are out here. The writer of the article actually heard from a friend after writing it and found out that he and his wife had been shunned years ago. I've had people reaching out to me that I've never known with their own stories because seeing someone else's makes them feel less alone and more validated.

Amber Scorah has been killing it lately, obviously having connections through her publisher and hard work on her own to line up an amazing round of publicity and creating awareness in the larger world. It takes all of us and makes me feel good to see more and more stories getting out. They can argue doctrine all they want but it's hard to argue personal stories. That's why the Borg uses them so much, even creating fictional "Andre", because it's hard to argue personal experiences. They are powerful. The more of ours out there the better.
