Stop shaving. Looking back, I figured out that I wasn't even asked to handle microphones once I had facial hair.

Did you as a brother, do less to avoid responsibilities?
by truthseeker ini have no choice but to remain active in the "troof" - for family and friends.
one day i will leave, but that day has not yet come.. i am not happy about leading a "double life" but i really have no say - for the peace of the family and my own sanity i must maintain the status quo.
it's difficult coexisting - i go to some meetings, but i spend more time here learning about the society.

When did you realize that Witnesses weren't much better than anyone else?
by JH in.
when i joined many years ago, i really thought that they were almost perfect.....*cough*.
and then i noticed that many were in their 2nd and 3rd marriage..... after i noticed that many were playing lotto, talking against others in the congregation.... and just yesterday, noticed that some *good* witnesses drive way beyond the speed limit.. so, more and more, i realize that they are just like everyone else, not worse, not better, but just a little more hypocrite.

I never HATED shaving, really. I just didn't care much for it. If I could shave once every week or two, I was OK.
Now, Mrs. O hates being assaulted by stubble, and she presnted me with a choice: shave every day (which I DO hate because it's a pain in the ass to spend that extra 5 minutes getting ready in the morning) or let it grow long enough to be soft. Otherwise I could forget about any fun in close quarters, KWIM?
Well, DUH! It didn't take me long to narrow down that list of options. -

JWs and Red Cross
by twinflame insorry to pose this question if it is here on the board somewhere.
i have been sifting for hours and even though i've found lots of great information, i can't find what i am looking for.. motivated by the hurricane tragedies, i decided to become a red cross volunteer on a local level.
i had my first training on saturday and came away feeling very good about my decision.

Danny, thanks for posting the link to that article.
As a board member for our area's Red Cross chapter, I can vouch for the lean financial position of the organization. Throughout the country, the American Red Cross is at or near the top of the list when it comes to the percentage of contributions that actually are used to help people in need. Our local chapter operates on an annual budget of about $60,000, including the director's salary, utility bills, rent, office supplies, postage, and all of normal expenses that any business or organization faces. And somewhere in the midst of all that, we manage to help families in need on a local, national, and worldwide scale. -

Probably explains why I was no longer on the microphone handling schedule after I set my razor aside as a teen ...

If there's some good in the Watchtower, why leave it?
by AlmostAtheist inthe post about crisis of conscience in which the poster said he knows there's some bad in the watchtower (as brought out in coc), but there's some good in it too got me to wondering about people that stay for the good in it.. the united states makes some decisions as a country that i don't agree with, perhaps even object strongly to.
but i don't disavow my citizenship.
it's mostly a good place to live, so i stay.. if you want to live in a way that utterly conflicts with the watchtower -- homosexual, multiple sex partners, smoking, whatever -- then you have reason to leave.

"If there's some good in the Watchtower, why leave it?"
Kinda like asking 'Hitler brought Germany back to the level of a world power when they were at the bottom of the ladder following WWI, so why complain about how evil he was?'
