  How's the Economy in Your Town?

  we went to the mall last friday, not to buy anything, but to walk around and look - and you could shoot a canon through the place.

  there were 8 people total in the entire food court at lunchtime and not many more inside the building.

  it felt kind of freaky and kind of depressing - mind you it was cool not having anyone run into you but at the same time, watching all the counter staff with nobody to wait on made me realize just how bad those guys must be feeling.

  I am not sure yet about shopping. I do not go to Walmart, so I am not sure how that is doing. The malls around here have never been super crowded -- the holiday season will be time we find out how my area is fairing. I do know that I work for the government, and they just laid off 27 people (real bodies) and abolished about 10 more jobs that were vacant. That is the first ever that this sector of government has ever laid off people - and we are told that this is only the first round of layoffs. Scary.

  Does God direct the WTBS through Holy Spirit?

  the watchtower society and/or the governing body of jehovah's witnesses claim that god is directing them (may 1, 1961 watchtower magazine page 274 paragraph 11).. .

  they say that it is vital that jw's appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the slave as they would to the voice of god, because it is his provision (june 15, 1957 watchtower magazine page 370 paragraph 7) and that only people with independent and rebellious spirits ignore the fact that god is directing them (june 1, 1985 watchtower magazine page 18 paragraph 12).

  they also claim that that jehovah is directing their steps by means of his holy spirit (may 1, 1961 watchtower magazine page 274 paragraph 11).

  But don't tell them that - they will just say that the light needs to get brighter.

  Things That Irritated You When You Were A JW

  there were some witnesses that loved taking notes for every meeting.

  whatever you would say, the note takers were busy as a bee writing down every word.

  especially if you went out of town to give a talk, certain ones (only sisters) would take their note taking very very seriously.. another thing that used to get to me was when you'd see the same people every assembly on the platform giving a talk or being in a part.

  Religulous with Bill Maher…I just saw it

  i dont post much at all any more but i had to mention this, i just got back from seeing religulous and cant remember the last time i laughed so hard.

  it was great!!!!!!

  close-minded religious people should save their money and not go see this movie but instead give your money to the next tv evangelist or street magician you see.

  I'm curious to know....were there any stuffy religious people that "walked out" during the movie?

  Not a one - at least at the showing where I saw it. I absolutely loved it. He did touch on the Mormons and how they shun you if you express beliefs differernt from the church. And he did talk about the Jewish traditions that deal with the Sabbath. I even learned stuff about Horus (Greek or Roman story?) who was born of a virgin, raised the dead, walked on water, was resurrected three days after death, etc. That was quite interesting.

  Very excited about going to see this flick. Bill Maher was on The Daily Show last night (Tuesday 9/30) and Jon had him on extra long - the guest segment was 15 minutes (as opposed to the 5 or 6 minute timeframe). I think this film is going to piss a lot of religious people off.

  hi all.. my mother in law got "a talking to" by 2 elders today.

  thing is, we all live together, my jw mother in law, my disassociated wife and i, and, our little girl.

  we have all been living together for 5 months or so.

  Is your MIL a pioneer? Otherwise, what privileges could they remove from her? Like taking away the "privilege" of giving a #3 talk?

  I was 18 at the time (many, many years ago) at a water slide park on this inner tube rapids kinda ride. I got ahead of my friends, so I grabbed on to this rock to wait for them and turned and looked back at everyone -- not realizing that half of my bathing suit had fallen down and I had given everyone a perfect view of one of my size C boobs! Gawd was I embarassed -- but in hindsignt, it was pretty funny.

  Your Favorite 1970's Music Groups/ Singers/ Songs ?

  in the 1970's i was a teenager.

  i wasn't that big into disco- although i enjoyed kc and the sunshine band as well as earth, wind, and fire.

  but my really big love in music was always rock n' roll, blues , stuff like that !

  I started school in 1975 and my brother was WAY into R&B type stuff and I was very impressionable.

  Earth Wind & Fire was his favorite and I think back then I must have known every song. Then, we stopped listening to "Shining Star" because it was about astrology. *gasp* I now listen to it every chance I get.
