are you able to tell if someone is a jw just by looking or listening to a person?
what are the give away signs that make you just know that they're a witness?
Nine times out of ten I can spot them. We were once at a Starbucks having coffee around 11:30 a.m. on a Saturday and this woman in a skirt was with an older woman and I said to my boyfriend -- "they are dubs" and he was skeptical. So I casually listed to their conversation and that confirmed it (meetings, sister, brother, etc.).
They are easier to spot on the weekends -- other than that, I do not easily spot them in a crowd.

my last meeting was memorable.
it was a saturday morning bookstudy.
i showed up a little late per usual with my coffee.
I don't think I had a conscious thought about my last meeting, but my last meeting was in October 2001. I went to a Thursday night TMS/SM and sat there indifferent through the whole meeting. They had a "special guest" from Brooklyn that talked about how the "Bethel Family" reacted before/during/after the 9/11 attacks. It was interesting, but I was past caring at that point. I talked to a few of my friends and walked out -- never did return to that hall.
I went to a funeral in a different KH a week later and I haven't been back.
Don't think I am really missed at all. And I sure as hell don't miss going to the meetings.

LMAO. What about that song Balsam & Gilead (can't remember the number). LOL Those songs bring back memories of people singing off key or singing the wrong verse. I guess it doesn't really matter -- any song that the WTS puts out will suck.

it must be about 13 years since i went out in service.
about 15 years since i went out a couple times a month, and about 18 years since i went at least once a week.. i just can't imagine going from door to door anymore.
but to think that we all did it for quite awhile.
I have pushed the experience of service far into my memory banks. I can almost pretend like it never happened. I guess techinically it has been 4 years.
Funny thing is -- me and my fiancee went door to door in the neighborhood recently to get our neighbors to sign a letter to submit to the city (about a traffic issue) and I got horrible flashbacks. My palms were sweaty when we started knocking. Don't know how I managed 30 years of FS. I prefer to think it never happened.

great...now thats out of the way, i need you guys to do me a favour, i have been reading up on jws for the past three/four years, the people are pleasent enough and live fairly ordinary lives....some could say boring....(lets call up susie for a game of cards!!!!!
i come here with a problem....my problem is simple and clear cut, it could even be summed up in one word..."hope".
It is not a religion for strong minded individuals who can THINK for themselves.
This is very true. Once I started thinking for myself (not led by the repetition of the meetings), my life became much richer and I started enjoying life more.
I think the JWs use that "hope for the future" slogan to snare people in -- people who are looking for something more in this life. Why do I want to live for what will happen in the future and not enjoy my life right now? When I realized that is what I was doing (waiting for something in the future), I decided the religion was no longer for me. I still have hope, but I do not let that dominate my life as I try to live each day to the fullest.
