I don't mind if George Carlin prays to Joe Pesci (although I'd be praying for Joe Pesci, in a nicely wrapped box on Christmas morning, he's yummy), so why should he mind if I pray to whatever it is I pray to? I'm with Country Girl, it does no harm to pray, unlike lots of other things people do. Why should those who don't want to pray be so bitter towards those who do? In fact, that sounds pretty emotional to me.

Well, imagine just for a moment that YOU had seen someone levitate. Would you talk about it in science class? Even if you were the teacher. Knowing that most people in there would get all sarcastic and talk to you like you were some some stupid trailer trash git who never saw the inside of a university or encountered a scientific concept in your life, no matter how educated you were and how much you'd read and thought on the subject? And the rest would keep quiet for fear of the scorn and contempt and ridicule that would inevitably heaped on their heads?

You pick a dummy up off a street that's so dirty you don't even like to walk on it, give it a good suck to be sure it's clean for the baby, and stick it back in her mouth so she'll stop wailing. (I know I'm not the only one who did that.)

I especially liked that one about making sure all the foods don't touch eachother. My daughter's particular neurosis is that she has to have a whole separate plate for all the food that she's rejected, because she can't stand to have it on the same plate with the food she still considers potentially edible. The separate plate was a compromise achieved through much negotiation, as she really thinks that the rejected food properly belongs on the floor where she doesn't even have to look at it.

Sure. They just aren't documented by anyone a skeptic would credit. Although I suspect that a true skeptic would immediately discount the observer no matter who he was. My father in law who is a hyperskeptic has always greatly respected Upton Sinclair as a true intellectual and great mind. In the later part of his life Upton Sinclair became very interested in telepathy and did a lot of experiments with his wife which established to his satisfaction that they were actually communicating with each other non-verbally (from separate rooms). I gave Sinclair's book about it to my father-in-law, who was really shocked and then immediately dismissed Sinclair has a nut. The proof? Sinclair believes in telepathy. The skeptic's system is a closed one. It can't be true because no one credible has ever observed it. And anyone who has ever observed can't be credible, because it isn't true.
