did anyone have the book study group meet in your home?.
my family had the book study group meeting in our basement and it was such a drag.. some of the reasons why it sucked.. the house always had to be spotless.. my mom insisted that there was always refreshments available for after the group meeting.. some dubs used to wander into other parts of the house, including my room.. if i missed the bookstudy because i was sick, some would actually come down to my room to talk.. there were many times when little things would go missing, glasses, magaizines, books, food, you name it.. people would check out my music and books all the time.. i have long since moved out, but mom still has the book study meeting there..
Just a question - Is it still considered a priveledge to have the book study in your home - meaning that you and you family must be exlempary?

You know all the tricks.
Unfortunately I was a little too young and emotionally retarded at the time to block effectively.
Now that I don't live there, when I visit, I always leave something out in the basement, totally untheocratic so that it can be seen.
Mom gets really upset.

o.k i confess: sometimes i still wish i was in high school where i was tucked away safely away from the real world.
oh yeah, and i pick my nose sometimes.
what are your confessions?
I confess, I once skipped on on my lasts months rent at an apartment because I knew the slumlord was going to keep my deposit.
Well, maybe its because I had a hot weekend trip planned with my bosses secretary.
i realize this is totally context and culturally dependent, but the old toronto jw youth scene was quite wild during the years 1984-1994. .
one example, a group of about 40 jw kids would go up to a ski resort (usually mount st.louis/moonstone or blue mountain) over the x-mas week-end.
one year we rented out a block of rooms in a resort close to the ski lodge.
There was a huge party in NYC at a disco called "bentleys".
It was very wild loud and late with drinks overflowing.
Many of us got in trouble over this and at our next DC large parties were strictly banned.
I'll omit the details of the party to protect the guilty.
i know a girl in my hall who completely fabricates her "personal comments" during the wt study to make herself look better.
she concocts these expierences about her witnessing to class mates and teachers and even adds in a little joke or two for a ha ha effect from the audience.
i always see her after the meeting and she always got that grin like 'yeah, i made it sound good didn't i?
For the most part I kept it pretty real.
I believed most of the crap.
I did however sometimes only study part of the watchtower so that I could make at least one comment.
elders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.
Women were not allowed to where bikinis at the pool or beach.
Absolutely no Afros for men or women.
No ethnic art work.
The stars, moon, or sun could not be worn, or displayed on clothing in in art work.
No motorcycles - looks rebellious
Men should not wear any jewelry except for a watch.

i was talking to someone at my new job - she has known me for about 3 months and had something like 2 five minute conversations with me about the jws.. she said "you do come across as really bitter about it".. (note she is definately not a jw).. it was a real eye opener, because although i try and educate people about the truth of jws, i didn't think i was "bitter".. what about you?
sirona
So what if you are?
It's part of the healing process.
This didn't happen in my hall, but I worked with the elder involved.
There was this newly baptised sister who was married to an unbeliever. She began to confide in an elder in the hall about her martial problems.
Guess what? They began an affair. The unbelieving husband found out about it and told the elders and the elder's wife.
He then came to the hall on sunday and punched out the elder. The punk ass elder didn't hit him back and basically was left in heap in the back of the hall before the other brothers could contain the brusier.
The elders wife accepted him back, but the unbeliever divoriced his wife.
No one was DFed only privately reproved.
The sister's children were extremely scarred by these events and are now outspoken against the religion.
