Banned From the Bible

i may be late in seeing this special on the history channel, but did anyone else see this show.

it was about books being banned from the bible that further explains events that may or may not have happened the way it is written in the bible.

this show peaked my curiousity and i went to the library and found the book who wrote the bible?

My approach to this may be a little different.

We have a loving Creator in Heaven who wishes us to come to Him and to be saved from our sins. "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son...." Our heavenly father has made every provision for us to take this offer of salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the means by which we can know of His mercy. Yes there are many writings but I believe that the Bible as we know it contains all that is necessary to aquaint us with the information needed. It's not a question of what is right or wrong but what is needed for us to know. We do read that "Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit".

I trust absolutely Holy Scripture as we know it and believe that God guided the compilers to prepare our Bible as it is.

Gentile Times - When did they end?

recently a poster commented that pastor russell may have clapped his hands two days too soon because the gentile tiems were not supposed to end until october 4/5, 1914. i guess october 4/5 is the date now given (though i haven't seen it in print, being unfamiliar with the newer publications), whereas russell was satisfied to have passed october 1.. one would assume that, as the downfall of the judean kingdom (supposedly in 607 bce) was the beginning of the gentile times, that whenever they ended in 1914 would be the date that would correspond to the overthrow in 607 bce.

(it would, given all the society's presuppositions, be difficult to come up with an exact date, as the hebrew calendar is a lunar calendar and must be periodically adjusted to keep it in synch with the solar year.

) after all, god's words to zedekiah (the last judean king) are usually quoted to support the idea that the gentile times began when that king lost his crown and the kingdom authority would be held in abeyance until "he comes whose right it is" - understood to be christ jesus at the parousia.

Great! I'm trying to convince a JW of what I consider his errors of interpretation. I have a special reason for this as we have both agreed that we cannot both be right in our understanding of the nature of Jesus Christ and of the truth of his Second Coming.

As I believe that The Lord Jesus Christ has not yet set up His Kingdom (on earth by the way) I know that we may still have time to prepare ourselves for His coming - to be ready to meet Him and share in His Glory. If I have oportunity to help anyone as well in this endeavor I do so.

Justin you know these problems from the inside, as it were, and have had the courage to think again.

i am discussing this subject with a friend who believes this and who uses the passage in col 1 vs.15-17 as 'proof'.

he also uses john 8 v 58. it is of course a question of greek interpretation.

is there anyone out there who is a reliable greek scholar who could verify what these verses really say?

Thankyou Brummie - sorry its so late, or rather early. Good of you to reply - I've had this subject 'on my mind' all day and wanted to have some other comment before I 'retire'. I'll give your comment serious thought when I'm more awake but I needed a fresh thought to continue the subject. One can get 'bogged down' on one line of reasoning and 'not see the wood for the trees'. Thankyou again.

Just as a comment - I truly believe that Jesus is the Only Begotten Son of God but I believe that the Sriptures teach that he did not exist as a person until his birth of Mary.

Coincidences?

i've been doing alot more research than i ever have when i was a dub.

and i'm starting to realize its not just what the dubs teach that seem coincidental.

its what the bible shares.

Also - "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."(A.V.)

I am very encouraged that so many of you are taking this subject seriously.

Regarding my original question. It is so important to accept the bodily resurrection of Jesus because of His other promise to return to this earth and reign as King in Jerusalem over the whole earth. The promise to His mother Mary before he was born that, "He shall reign over the house of Jacob and of His Kingdom there shall be no end."

Thankyou Tyre for adding those lovely passages from the Corinthian letter.

In reply to the question of acceptance of Myths about the birth of other "saviours", I am only able to accept the Holy Scriptures, in regard to our Saviour Jesus, because of their claim to be inspired by our creator The LORD GOD in heaven. We must have a reliable source of information when it comes to these important subjects. "Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit," a very well known passage of Scripture.

Hello, this is my first post. I hope I will receive some answers to my question.

The Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead to die no more. Who was the Jesus who rose from the dead? I ask this question of Jehovah's Witnesses because it is my belief that the Jesus who died was the same Jesus who rose again on the third day, not a spirit. I understand that this is not the real belief of J.W's as they believe that the body of the Lord was disposed of. I cannot understand this because of the words of Jesus himself, when appearing to the disciples in an upper room after his resurrection: "So he said to them:' Why are you troubled, and why is it doubts come up in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; feel me and see,because a spirit does not have flesh and bones just as you behold that I have' "(Luke 24 v.38,39. NWT)

The above quotation is the plain words of scripture and I believe that they are there for a purpose so that we should understand the true nature of the resurrection of Jesus that He did indeed rise from the dead His flesh having not corrupted as God had promised way back in the Old Testament book of Psalms.
