In this lecture Losch isn't saying that WTBTS isn't a corporation, in fact he does say WTBTS is a non-profit corporation."... a "non-profit corporation"? "
He is speaking against adopting a "corporate attitude" (which he then goes on to define).
"does not endorse a corporate attitude"
Take care,

I "got the truth" in Hollywood congregation and I can't say that there was anything too wild going on there!
Lemme think.....there was a brother who wouldn't play any music other than Kingdom songs, there were several verrrry old people, well-respected as being "of the annointed", there were several self-employed Elders raising families, a few musicians, the occasional famous JW (but they weren't actually in Hollywood congregation).
There was a "sister" baptized the same day that I was who never appeared at the Kingdom Hall after that date. The brothers went to check up on her and found her living in an apartment on Hollywood Blvd., um...."plying her trade". Sheryl S., if you're reading this, we missed you at the baptism party that night!

My wife is a JW, I'm not.
by Mrgij01 inmy wife and i have been married 6 years now.
she was a jw when we married as is her entire family.
i was, and still am, very attracted to her because of the way she carries herself and her compassion.. i would like anyone who has had a similar experiance or was a jw to better help me understand what is going on in their heads when it comes to birthdays and such.

Hello again!
I commend you for not rushing into the fray, bent on destroying your wife's belief system especially, as you state, when you have no other to put in its place.
One of the reasons your wife may become silent when you open a conversation is that her core beliefs are nothing like those of other "Christians". She knows that, if only because she's heard it said so many times at the Kingdom Hall! What may seem like a simple question to you may seem to her like scaling Mt. Everest conversationally; she would first have to bring you up to speed on how JW's understand many different scriptures before she could get down to the topic under discussion.
If you questions to her are concerning why people leave JW's there is an even more compelling reason: if she knows "too much" about the topic she could be thrown out herself! JW's are not given much information when a person is removed from good standing in the organization (disfellowshipped or disassociated). A one-line announcement is made stating that so-and-so is no longer a member; after that it's all rumor, speculation and gossip. If the ex-JW tries to contact a JW in good standing it leaves the JW open to a charge of apostacy for dealing with someone who is no longer on God's side. JW's do not tolerate "apostates" or anyone who has dealings with them. The JW definition of apostacy significantly differs from that of other Christian denominations, if not in fact than in deed.
You will soon note that the people on this board have left WT/JW's for a variety of reasons. From experience I can tell you that no matter how outrageous or outlandish their stories are most of them are true and unembellished. Keep that in mind because if you continue researching why people have left Jehovah's Witnesses you will read some harrowing experiences!
Last note: There is a private message function on this site. Look near the upper left corner of your screen, find the box with your username in it. That's where you will find notification if anyone has sent you a PM. To send a PM to someone on the board just mouse over their username (found to the left of their post) and follow the instructions you will see.
OK I lied...this will be my last note! Sometimes this board erupts like Vesuvius and WWIII combined. Don't let it bother you. Keep reading, keep posting.
Best,
Nina

Hello, and welcome to the board!
The reason given for JW's lack of participation in birthday celebrations is this: There are two birthday celebrations mentioned in the Bible and at each one of them someone was killed, thus birthday celebrations are not for "true Christians".
UBM = Unbelieving Mate (if I am not mistaken and if I am someone will chime in with corrected information!) "Unbelieving Mate" is Theocratese (JW-speak) for a non-witness married to a witness.

by DavidChristopher inmy firstborns son's mother i live with asked me today if i wanted anyone else.. i replied "yes, i want to know every unmarried woman on earth, so i can insure i will never feel like i missed out on something.

"...and spend forever as her property alone."
Property? As in you want someone who will take care of you forever?
Dream on.

There have been cases of a disfellowshipping being rescinded but the ones I know of were rescinded because of grave error made on the part of the judicial committee.
On a separate note, in a different case that I was close to the individual decided that his baptism should be nullified because he was not actually living in accord with Bible principles at the time of his baptism. A letter came from Brooklyn stating that the baptism was valid. The individual was disfellowshipped instead.

Tell her you are "uncomfortable" letting other people share your computer. Ask her what it is she wants to look up. After she tells you what it is (hah!) tell her you will look it up for her...just as soon as you have time.
