Women in the Quran
Women in the Book of Mormon
My favorite:
2 Nephi 13:12 from the Book of Mormon
And my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths.

Being a JW Woman - Was It Really That Bad?
by eljefe ini have seen quite a few posts from many ex-jw women about how unhappy they were about male domination in congregation.
was it really that bad?
when i was still a jw, no one ever told me anything to that effect.

ElJefe, in regards to this thread and your attitudes, your name sez it all.
That was a nickname I picked up in Spanish class in high school. Nothing to it. By the way, I am not Spanish and don't have the machismo ego. However, I was in a Spanish Cong. where women came last, if at all. I didn't like it.
eljefe, there are hundreds of threads on this board about the JW practice of suppressing and oppressing women. I'm surprised you even asked the question. BTW, I have rarely been treated so disrespectfully in my professional or ("worldly") social life, as I was subjected to on a daily basis as a JW.
Personally, I treat women as equals. Even as a JW, I tried to not demean them. I realized early on that many of the older sister knew more that the people giving talks (my grandmother being one of them) and elders.
Depending on how you read the question, you could impune a different motivation or prejudice towards women. I believe I treat women as equals. This was an honest question, I didn't realize JW women felt that way. I don't mean to offend anyone. -

If you really wanted to run the mikes you could have went to a small congregation where they had to "resort" to using women for duties.

When I was still a JW, no one ever told me anything to that effect. I suppose that women would talk about it much with a man. Did that have anything to do with your decision to leave JW's? -

DY's Letter of Disassociation... Just Dreaming For Now.
by Doubtfully Yours indear soon-to-be ex-friends:.
i hereby wholeheartedly and by my own free will request to have all records which indicate my current association with the jehovah's witnesses and it's legal entity, the watchtower bible and tract society, deleted at this time.. the extremelly long time i endured while in your company has been wonderful at times and not so much at others, just like any experience in this great life.. i've looked forward to this time for so long, in which i won't feel forced to attend all those repetitive and boring weekly meetings, add to that the exhausting and expensive assemblies, the memorial, all the time-wasting preaching activities, plus the 'expected' socializing among members.
it's all so enslaving to me!

Before You Leave The Witnesses, You MUST Make New Friends!!!
by minimus inmy advice to anyone that is thinking of leaving the "organization" is to make friends (real friends) with people other than jehovah's witnesses.
the sad truth is that jws are only conditional "friends".
they will drop you like a hot potato if they think you want to leave.

Luckily, I found some good friends at work that have helped me along.
Speaking of being dropped like a hot potato, I have only received one social visit in the past year. There is nothing like good JW friends sticking with you through thick and thin. -

HELP!! Trying to find right religion brough up as JW
by emmamess22 ini was raised as an on again off again (when convenient for flighty mom) jw.
i have recently decided due to the birth of a daughter that it was time to get it together and decide what to do with myself spiritually as she was going to church with her baptisit dad and i felt awful.
so, i've been using the reasoning book and reading the bible and trying to decide what's right.. spent hours looking at christmas online....saw it was traced to pagan celebrations and decided not to do it.

As I read most people's responses a thought came to mind: Most of us have been chewed up by Jehovah's Witnesses and spit out Atheists. This was what happened to me. When I realized that JW's did not have the truth, I thought there would be another religion that was out there that had the truth. Examine the Bible, not religions' interpretations of the Bible.
I recommend a site called The Skeptics Annotated Bible. Here is a list of the contractions in the Bible (and there are quite a few). -

Penn and Teller-Bull#$%@ and the End of the World
by CaptainSchmideo injust saw this episode on the dvd collection.
the nostradamus section was quite funny, especially when penn takes the song "the wheels of the bus go 'round and 'round", converts it into latin, and then uses it as prophecy of future events, like the great english train robbery, the montgomery bus boycott, and watergate.. they also showcased a nostradamus "scholar", who changed a page in a book from 1st edition to second edition when the ayatollah khomeini died before becoming the anti-christ.
does that sound familiar, changing pages in a book from one edition to the next?.

My favorite episode is the PETA one. Of all the crazy groups in the world, PETA puts JW's to shame in the craziness department.
